Hello Patrons,

Today I am sharing a new painting I finished this morning !
After spiraling for a few days last week because I didn't know what to paint anymore, I decided to sketch silhouettes based on statues (I like to do that sometimes, they always have such great poses). I used this one by Lorenzo Bartolini as reference :

And while looking at my Pinterest folder to find ideas, I found this :

It's a mini jardiniere from the late Qing dynasty, I never saw these before but I fell in love with it ! These "sculptures" (not sure how to call them in English) are so dreamy, I decided to make a series of 3 paintings inspired by them. And I immediately thought, what if I add a mermaid in there... And I used the statue sketch I did earlier that day.

I mixed both of these elements to help me find new ideas, at this point I was desperate 😪
I ended up liking the iPad sketch and gave it a try on paper !

So here's the sketch :

Black outlines first :

First session (I think this is 60-90 minutes of painting) :

The day after I might have spent 2-3 hours on it :

And the finished painting (it took me 2-3 hours to complete the painting this morning) :

The vase looked scary with all the little details, but I loved painting it - it was actually so relaxing !

 Colors I used :

And of course the palette :

This quick iPad sketch really helped me unblock something. I've been stuck for a few weeks now and I don't love what I do. But I have to paint for the solo show in April so I can't really just wait for inspiration !
I did two other mermaids, (you can see a sneak peek in one of the process pictures). I hope to finish them both next week so I can start focusing on the artbook I want to finish in time for the exhibition !

That's it for today, I hope you'll like it !!

Thanks again for your support on Patreon🧡🧡🧡

Hugs,

Sibylline

I’m not loving my own art right now either. It’s so inspiring to see you sharing how you worked through your block. Thank you for that!!
