Spider Gwen 🕷️🥁 Across the Spiderverse show 🕷️ Process ! (Patreon)

Hello Patrons !

Today I am going to share some process for the piece I did of Gwen Stacy for the upcoming Across the Spiderverse exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in August !

The deadline was tight, so I sketched two concepts - one with Miles & Gwen walking on NYC buildings, and one of Gwen based on an old digital drawing from 2019.

Her suit has been updated for the second movie, so I redrew her with her new suit, fixed the color palette and added a skyline in her suit. Since the dark part of the suit had stars and the moon in the first version, I decided to keep it. Black part of the suit is the night sky, and since the city takes such a big place in the movies I thought it would be a nice touch !

I ended up picking the Spider Gwen concept because I didn't have much time to paint it on paper and send it to the gallery (deadline was July 22nd).

First step - black outline to still see the important elements underneath the first layer of acryla gouache !

I used neon pink for this painting, because I thought it would represent the movie better. It has such vibrant colors, it was the perfect occasion for me to add accents of neon colors (something that I usually never do !)

As you can see on the Procreate sketch, I didn't detail the buildings. So I took this image and tried to replicate the skyline to make it more accurate and drew directly on paper :

I didn't take too many process pictures for the suit because I was so focused and it was my favorite part to paint ! It was new to me so I had fun while learning how to make the city look realistic. I really wanted it to fade into her teal shoes 🌃

The finished illustration looked a little empty so I added stars to compliment the character and balance the whole painting, and used her three colors : neon pink, teal and black.

The original illustration will be available for sale at Gallery Nucleus, the show starts on August 5 and ends on August 20th. I believe you can purchase/see all pieces one day before anyone else if you subscribe to their mailing list ! They might make prints too !
I won't make prints or stickers myself because this illustration now belongs to Marvel and Sony 🕷️
