Uncovered: In the Flesh 5. (Patreon)
Content
Inspired by the success of RE/Search's Modern Primitives, the publisher of Outlaw Biker's Tattoo Revue published the first issue of In the Flesh as a standalone volume (under the official title of Tattoos for Women Presents In the Flesh) in 1991, promising to continue on where Modern Primitives left off.
The first issue was presented in black and white and was a fairly radical left turn from Outlaw Biker's normal content, including proposed articles on gender bending, smart drugs, and strange food, but the issue remained a stand alone and for a while it remained a single issue project.
Five years later the title was relaunched- in full color and fully in line with the less sexual/more aesthetic based modification scene that was finding it's place in mid-90s landscape of Steve Haworth, Cliff Cadaver, and Jon Cobb.
Issue 5, pictured here, would introduce voluntary amputation to the newsstand market with an article on self-sculptor Stonehenge and his accounts of DIY toe removal via chisel. The article featured tracings of his feet but they shied away from posting photographs.
My spcOnline site- 1995/2005- would be the first outlet to publish photos of Stonehenge, then called ToeCutter (and eventually Subtracting and ChopOff) and his chiseling adventures.
I need to dig the physical copy of ITF5 out because for the life of me I can't remember what Cliff Cadaver's NEW PIERCING was!
