Cliff Raven was years ahead of the pack when it came to what he called the 'black graphic' style of tattooing. As influenced by graphic art as he was by traditional ethnographic "tribal" patterns, he created some of the best early examples of the style like the back (and chest/torso) of Bob Houle who's back is seen here, photographed in the early 1980s.
