One of modification artist Steve Haworth's earliest (not the earliest) subnormal implant projects, performance artist The Enigma's horn implants became, due to his media saturation, one of the most seen "extreme" modifications of the era. Touring with the Jim Rose sideshow put him in front of thousands of fans a night, appearing on the cover of Ripley's Believe it or Not!: Special Edition (2001) put him front and center on bookstore shelves, and, really, being the blue guy who's a giant puzzle made him media gold.
The teflon and later silicone horns were put in in stages- generations- and thanks to a game of telephone and a little bit of razzle-dazzle for the rubes, it became an oft repeated rumor that they were made of coral and were fused to his skull. To my knowledge, no respectable practitioner has ever used coral for 3D art implants.
This photograph was taken at the Eden Roc Hotel at Crowe and Dwyer's Tattoo Tour, 1997.
