The original Sacred Debris zine- xeroxed and stapled in the early 1990s- was almost named Discarded Reliquaries; the idea behind both of the titles was that these images that we see as important ephemera that contextualizes an under-documented subculture were, at their creation, just casual photos taken and often left unprotected by the participants who didn't think of where the images would be in 20, 30, 40+ years.

A small selection of original prints from the Sailor Sid archives, for examples, were left in a humid Florida garage for years, in cardboard boxes with no protection. Over the years we've tried to give special attention to the prints that were damaged from improper storage, an all too real reminder of the fragility of physical media and our need to preserve it.

This photo dates back to the late 1970s, and features Sailor Sid Diller enjoying a play piercing scene.
