The official launch date of the 'new' iteration of Sacred Debris- which is to say when we took the name from my original 1990s xeroxed and stapled print zine and applied it to a blog- was January 1st, 2014.

The first post- titled TWENTY YEARS IN A CIRLE- contained a hastily put together mission statement:

Mission statements are supposed to give you an idea on what to expect- but if you come along on this journey I’m happy to say that you can throw expectation out the window and just enjoy Sacred Debris for the wonderfully all-over-the-place experience that it has the potential to be.

Over the last (almost) eight years we've endeavored to do just that; to archive, document, and contextualize body modification- past and present, regardless of the discipline involved- through the SD Blog, our Nodal Points and Better Safe than Ari zines, and our premium format Archive Editions photo books.

It's a lot of work for not a lot of reward; we understand that while there are probably more people walking around today with body modifications- tattoos, piercings, cuttings, implants, plastic surgery, you name it- than in all of human history combined, its history and culture is still somewhat of a niche concern. You folks who come here, who follow our social media accounts, are truly the reason we do what we do, and I have to tell you that I'm pleased as punch for the support you've shown us here on Patreon.

So whether you've been with us for a while, or recently joined during our yearly Fundraising week push- we're glad to have you, and on behalf of the SD team- Julia, Ari, Lynn, and I- thank you so much for your support.

Your donations have already paid for another year of cloud storage, renewal of our Adobe products, and, being fully honest here, a small staff gift for Ari, Julia, and Lynn. The rest will sit in our coffers waiting to be used for new content acquisition, physical media platforms, etc that we need to scan, import, edit, and store all of the analog to digital conversions of our physical archives. It's nice to not have to go out of pocket on a not for profit project, and you folks make that possible.
