The 1990s were a prolific time for the body piercing scene; established piercing techniques were critiqued and improved upon, new techniques invented, and Doug Malloy's credo of I.I.P.P.I. - If it protrudes, pierce it - was set aside in favor of experimentation, for better or for worse.

Blake Perlingieri, seen in this 1997 video piercing a larger gauge deep pubic piercing, was an innovator in freehand and large gauge piercing - one of the first in a generation of piercers (along with his friend and mentor, Vaughn) who came from the punk scene not the leather scene, and who brought a fresh new perspective to the SF Bay Area piercing boom.

There's very little likelihood that this piercing ever fully healed properly (One of the lamentations of the experimental 1990s was the incredible low success rate in getting pretty much anything to heal properly, but you can't say we didn't have fun!) but one never knows!
