In 2006, at the second Scar Wars event (held in Los Angeles), I awarded Ron Garza with the first (and to date, only) KEITH ALEXANDER AWARD FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCARIFICATION. He was the logical choice for our first award; Ron was one of the first artists to use tattoo inspired imagery as the subject for his cutting/branding work, was an early adopter of social networking, assuring that his style was seen all over the early bodymod spaces on the internet, and even went on to host his own cutting/branding event (Scar Con).

This is tape 01 from his massive donation of DVC tapes to our archives; we've chosen to present it without audio (conversation between artist and client is better left to those involved) in its original aspect ratio.

RGC 01: In Silence

Ron Garza is an influential body modification artist, known internationally for his advancement of decorative scarification and branding. Currently working in Southern California, Ron donated a large portion of his physical media archive to Sacred Debris for archival and contextualization. This video features Ron, some time in the early 2000s, performing a "flesh removal" scarification; the design is "outlined" with a scalpel and then skin is removed. This video is not to be considered a "how-to" and is available exclusively for Sacred Debris Patreon supporters. We are uploading it in good faith that it conforms to Youtube's content policy, both as written and similar videos available.
