Hans of Denmark was a fan of enlarged piercings; ultimately employing leather punches and plastic surgery to further his goals.

At first the holes that I had in my ears took ages to heal and besides I could hardly place anything through them so I got the idea to use a leather punch and enlarge the holes. A friend came over to help me and after I had plucked up enough courage I had the holes made. Still the holes were too small and I tried placing pieces of wood in them to prevent them from closing. - Hans
