Happy New Year’s Eve!

We have some exciting plans and releases planned for 2024!

As the year wraps up, I figured I would share my and Felicia’s gratitude for all of the patrons who have made a dream come true.

Ever since I was a kid I had always wanted to make toys for my job. I used to “kitbash” (more bashing than kitting) old toys, plastic army men, and paper action figures. As I become an adult and had to get a real job, the dreams of my childhood were replaced by the realities of having to keep a family fed.

Well thanks to everyone who has supported us financially over the last few years, I am able to live my dream and support my family. (While miniatures are not exactly toys, it scratches the same itch haha)

We also wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of Craig and Dave, who keep the ship running while I’m off in la-la land making miniatures or trying to get some dang s-foils to articulate into attack position.

Finally, in the spirit of thankfulness I would like to thank my wonderful wife for supporting me in this project and taking the leap with me into Dark Fire Designs. She won’t read this for probably a day or two, mostly because she is busy chasing down our four kids, making dinner, and handling much of the thankless administrative-behind-the-scenes work that keeps me in the designer’s chair. But enough of that mushy stuff, let’s talk about plans for 2024!

Primary and Secondary Releases

Similar to this month (December), we will feature more structured and predictable releases. Some of this info is pretty familiar for old timers ‘round these parts, but in the spirit of “Ty is having one of his fits of OCD”, I reckon it might not be a terrible idea to itemize it all out.

Each month we will have Primary Releases, and Secondary Releases.

Primary Releases will be available for all tiers, however Secondary Releases will be only available for Cosmic Commandos and both Council tiers.

Primary releases will include a Squad (10 miniatures, 5 kits typically), a Hero (3 poses typically), and a Vehicle or Terrain Set.

Secondary release include typically 3-4 Singles (miniatures with usually 1 pose, and no kits), a 2nd Hero (3 poses), and a 2nd Squad (10 poses, 5 kits).

Occasionally I may be able to get more out, but I can’t guarantee it.

Loyalty Rewards

As 2024 progresses and I make some headway towards getting ahead of the release schedule, I plan to make several popular recommendations (the ones that always come in 2nd place in the polls ) available as Loyalty Rewards.

Some planned rewards include Alpha ARC Troopers, 1.5 ARC Troopers, Concept Luke Starkiller, the YT 2400, and like 10 other things I can’t think of off the top of my head.

Please be patient with the timeline on these, i Al subject to the ever approaching deadlines of the Primary and Secondary releases each month.

Patreon Commissions and Requests

I plan on accepting some commissions from patrons as well as taking requests from oldest patrons (time accrued). Like stated above, be aware that my time always seems to slip away, and until I can get 2-3 months ahead of the dreaded release deadlines, I won’t be able to have any flexibility.

Beyond Star Wars

While I love Star Wars, and it will always be my primary fandom, I am a dork with diverse interests.

I would love to work on Halo, Marvel, DC, D&D, LotR, *totally not 40k * proxies and other fun franchises as secondary releases.

Just saying, it would be cool to get some ODSTs or Orcs printing…

Anyways, that’s all folks

Ty

Cheers Ty, doing legendary work! ODSTs FTW!

This sounds great, and please don't feel too stressed. You always give us tons of minis, we understand schedule delays and such! And btw, thank you so much for the year of wonderful minis! PS: Ooooh, seeing your take on Halo is activating my neurons.

Member of the old guard here. Been here since day 1 of your Patreon. Lots to look forward to in this route plan for 2024! Can't tell you how excited I am to see what you turn out in the upcoming year! Happy New Year to you and Felicia and the kiddos!

Edward Byworth

Would be down for a halo release ❤️❤️

EvilMadcat

the YT 2400 yeahhhhhh i love the ship have a nice new Year ty and family :)

Dylan Moerike

Primarily Star Wars focused content with secondary/bonus releases of other beloved sci-fi & fantasy franchises? Say no more! As someone who is here mostly for printing & painting the added diversity would be fantastic. Greatly appreciate all the quality work you do! Happy New Years to you and the Fam!

Rory

Happy New Year! Really looking forward to seeing what you come out with in 2024! (I’m also 100% here for a Halo release if that’s something you want to do, lots of potential!)

Troy

Happy New Year!!!

Russell Byerley

Happy New Year and I would like to say I too would love some ODSTs for my collection.

Golden_Ghosty

I would love to get some ODST!! I think branching to some new universes would be great!

Russell Murphy

I absolutely love ODSTs. I have a tattoo, a flag, and met my best friend through the game. All that being said, I'd honestly love some HALO WARS models. Everyone does Reach, Halo 3, or Infinite (ew) models and I never see any love for the RTS games. That or some prop weapons for cosplays???

Beffs

Totally not 40K? That's my favorite flavor of grimdark, thank you sir. I'm legit excited to see your interpretation of totally-not-smiled-on-by-the-Omnisiah figures.

a happy new year - all the best for 2024! As a SW fan from the very beginning - since 77' - I naturally prefer SW models... but the HALO theme is also very interesting. The only wish for 2024 - a LAATc... otherwise I'm happy to be surprised ;) Many regards

Happy new year All! A controversial opinion I'm sure, but as someone solely interested in SW related stuff, I'm not sure I'd be interested in seeing any of this other stuff at all. Might it be worth restructuring the tiers to give those that want this alternate content the means of getting it, while those of us (as I'm sure I won't be the only one) interested in just SW just that? My suggestion would be to make the primary release exclusively SW, and the secondary releases all these other things you want to explore 🤷‍♂️

happy new year, MTFBWY

Happy New Year! First and foremost, I am a Star Wars fan. That said, it is difficult to think of something for the Legion game table that has not already been done. Therefore, I understand considerations for branching out. Before doing that, consider making civilian speeder cars and trucks, starting with Mon Mothma's limousine. I would use them for terrain and conversions for rebel and scum & villainy forces.

Happy New Year!!! Okay, DFD sculpting skillset applied to LotR (MESBG) models would be my dreaaaaaaam!!!! I’d legitimately sign up for a second tier of just these models, if it became a thing! 😍🙏🏻 Our household would definitely be interested in NOT 40K, more Shatterpoint models, and maybe the Halo-verse? Like others have mentioned, I know much of a bummer it can be to pay for the highest tier, only to have a bunch of random, obscure-lore models for the release instead of useful tabletop stuff or things I’m actually looking for. I think if you could structure these extras as secondaries only, or even something like an add-on tier that can be joined/left when the “extras” release isn’t your flavor, that would be nice? And having a hashed out calendar so all can know whether or not they should invest in the extras or not, would be great. Thanks for all the joy and excitement you help bring to each of our lives through DFD! 🙏🏻

I am 10000000% on board with things beyond Star Wars.

Kieran Wynne-tear

"I would love to work on Halo, Marvel, DC, D&D, LotR, *totally not 40k * proxies and other fun franchises as secondary releases." I would kill to get modular DFD orcs or bandits for my D&D table,

Ben Chance

Halo would be great. Not really an official war-game for that, but that also means it is free real estate

Robert Tabacco-Hines

I would be thrilled if more shatterpoint style models we added. And alongside this, I would be just as thrilled if marvel figs sized the same (MCP) were added.

Dominic Timmis

LOTR, Hobbit orcs and goblins are always fun (especially in the shatter versions)
