Added Inverse Kinematics to engine and implemented enough functionality for independent upper body and lower body movement.

Kind of tired of talking about tech so lets do something different this time.

As mentioned before, the next game will feature weaponry and directional attacks and guards. Eg, 4 attack directions - up/down/left/right and 4 block directions. A block is only successful if the block is in the same direction as the attack.

So here are the 4 blocks for a sword user, can you match them with the guard direction? (up/down/left/right)

Getting to the sweet stuff! Seriously though, how are you getting so much shit done just by yourself? I've been in awe since HR, I can say hands down you're my favourite content creator at the moment.

Did you check "For Honor"?, it was available as free to play last weekend. I would suggest something like removing one of the two side blocks and make the down stance be the one that blocks that side (no actual down blocking/attacking stance) so that when blocking (or attacking), the three stances are completely different.

What is the argument for 3 directions instead of 4?

Asuta

Ease of use is probably the only arguement make-able. The 3 directions system allowed players to both use reaction as well as prediction to determine where their opponent might strike from, allowing for skill to show more than just luck. Adding in a 4th direction and it gets nigh impossible to predict and becomes heavily reliant on reaction times. In a game where some attacks are faster than the normal human reaction time (much like real swordfighting can be) it ends up becoming a terrible mechanic if the players feel like they are screwed out of a victory or given a victory simply because they were lucky that their attacks struck, rather than simply playing better than your opponent. This is all speculation and I doubt Ubisoft has actually done a QnA about this design decision.

Thanks! Be able to work full time on it helps. Hopefully the patreon picks up in the future so I can continue at it full time.

I hated this mechanic in For Honor. It is way too tedious.

Careful because you might make this game too awesome and heroine rumble might start getting jealous

Pretty much what Asuta replied, adding that if the stances are clearly different you can visually guess where your opponent is going to strike/block.
