I'm probably gonna comment more than once but I'm pretty sure I have the answer to this: I think Garp would've let Ace get executed if it had went off without a hitch because that's in line with the law and is the "proper" way. Akainu baited Ace and then murdered him essentially in cold blood and THAT'S why it set Garp off. He was trying to stay neutral, same reason why he didnt stop the execution but he let Luffy knock him down. Garp is a complex and fascinating character man, one of the best written in the whole series.

2nd comment: Its not a thing that super powerful people can have 2 DF's, it's something unique to Blackbeard exclusively. Spoiler: We still dont know how he did it. It's nuts.

One idea/suggstion: The next big arc (chapters 603-653) is quite interesting and divisive in terms of themes and villains it portrays. I remember Merphy having quite a good/interesting take on it and I think it was also one of her favorite arcs. It would be awesome if you could manage to get her back on the show for it. :)
