loved this episode and hearing armand’s backstory again is just as heartbreaking as the first time I heard it - also I believe the law that armand’s maker broke was either law 1 which you mentioned or law 2 which says the gift shouldn’t be given to the crippled, the maimed or to children as armand says he was struck down with illness before his maker turned him

I think any interpretations of Louis and Armand’s D/s dynamic are valid! Definitely intentional complex and arguably problematic by the writers. I am of the mind that while it may be manipulative and questionable, it was both intentional and subconscious. Louis decided, because of all the factors you mentioned, that he needed to put that dominating mask of control on in order to effectively deal with what’s to come. To me, Louis using “Arun” felt like a genuine attempt to essentially tell Armand “I see you”. But Armand using Master in response feels like Armand THINKING that’s what Louis wants from him and by offering up his “submission” in their relationship it not only gives Louis that illusion of control he was looking for AND is a way for Armand to, in some ways, cope with his own trauma. Which I think is seen in the choice for Armand to roleplay as Rashid in Season 1. Very complicated! I enjoy discussing it because I think it’s something not often explored. Although it gets a little questionable when I hear some people’s interpretations of it because casting Louis and Armand as black and south asian men respectively, unfortunately makes it easy for some viewers to fall into very racist and orientalist mindsets whether they know it or not. From some deeming Louis some hypermasculine, sexually aggressive caricature of a black man and some turning Armand into no more than an “exotic” temptress of sorts. There’s so much more that happens in this episode but I just have so many thoughts and feelings on this one part lol

claudia was speaking french in that scene w madeline outside her shop but not during the whole convo

FaeRhae

The way Louis holds open the door for the "ghost" lestat when he goes to hunt gets me every time

j-l

i didnt notice it on my first watch but it kills me lmfao i wanna laugh and cry at the same time

j-l

lestat turned claudia, not louis. theyre both responsible though, louis convinced him to but they turned her with lestats blood.

louis most definitely has mental health issues, even if its not schizophrenia he for sure is mentally ill. i mean he was depressed even as a human and weve seen his suicidality. something thats not as obvious is that he struggles w self-harm and disordered eating a lot of mental illnesses run in the family, and we know paul had some form of mental illness, whether it was schizophrenia or something else.

j-l

my headcanon is that louis might have bipolar disorder w psychotic features rather than schizophrenia idk thats just my take on it

i definitely get being confused on how to interpret the bench scene. the switch between how he speaks to dreamstat on the bench to the way he then speaks to armand is crazy. it feels jarring and uncomfortable. i cant say too much about it cause im scared itll spoil something but i was confused when i watched it too. its something that makes sense to me now and doesnt feel out of character, all these characters are very complex and the show purposefully makes you THINK.

Harry Allen

Literally, it felt so warm and honest when he was talking to dreamstat, almost like the second Armand sat down a veil went over his entire self, really weird. And yeah for sure, never gonna think this show confuses me WITHOUT it being intentional, very excited to see where we go with this

Harry Allen

Oop thanks for the reminder, brain connected two dots that were not meant to go together lol

Harry Allen

See I was thinking this at the time but got confused on the wording, cause crippled implied a physical disability and maimed I would think would more-so be a kind of injury that would make being immortal hard. But idk if I am interpreting those words wrong as idk where illness would land in all that, as surely it WOULD be a factor when it comes to turning someone.

Em

In the book, Armand was turned at 17 which broke that law. I think in the show it could be that Armand was ill when he was turned or other "crimes" Marius committed that aren't related to Armand, like all the mortals he told about vampires.

NOSTALGIC GIRL

about the witches, this is known as the immortal universe and there s a show called "mayfair witches". they actually do mention them in S1 when louis is having breakfast with his family and they mention the mayfair sisters and louis sister gets offended and says something about being called a witch lmao
