There's been some controversy in the fandom about whether they should have cast younger actors for Eddie & Shannon in this, since using the original actors doesn't really emphasize the idea that they were around 19 when they had Chris. Do you think they should have used different actors for the flashbacks? This episode obviously sheds light on Eddie's and Shannon's dynamic, but in realizing that they got pregnant right out of high school, Eddie enlisted before Chris was even born, he served two tours overseas (even if the second one was cut short by his injuries), almost immediately followed by Shannon leaving for two years, it does give the idea that their relationship was strained and fraught more often than it was not. Do you think they would have gotten married without Chris in the picture? What do you think their relationship would be like now if Shannon hadn't died? (I personally like to think they would have successfully gotten divorced and found a balance as co-parents but decided they were better off as friends than a couple).

Now that you have a fuller sense of the Diaz parents, where would you rate them on the "We hate 911 parents" list? If you had to guess where Maddie's/Buck's parents would fall on said list, where would you place them?

"Fun" fact - Someone on Tumblr made a chart of each episode and how many times Buck says "Eddie." For a long time, this episode was the highest scorer - with Buck saying "Eddie" 15x. Obviously, Buck had a really strong reaction to Eddie's situation, and the rest of the team seemed to know that Buck was the one to be handled the most here. How do you think this contrasts with Buck's reaction to realizing that Hen was in trouble during the earthquake arc, Chimney having a piece of rebar through his skull, or even the situation with The Taking of Dispatch last episode, where he ceded some of his role as Maddie's protector/person to Chimney?

So after this episode, do you have a favorite «begins»-episode? (Also, how impatient are you for Buck’s?)
