That was such a massive revelation at the end that I do not even know where to start in this. That said, fuck The Buckleys for not treating either of their kids the way that they deserved.

Love that Buck scene when he goes off on his parents. Oliver Stark gave an amazing performance in this episode. Every time I watch that scene. I get so emotional.

So...I binged eps 4 and 5 reactions because I just love them so much and I couldn't wait and all the comments I was gonna leave flew out the window by the end of it...I'm gonna rewatch your reactions to both episodes so I can remember what I wanted to say. But I WILL say here that I appreciate very deeply how empathetic you are when you take in a character and their actions/feelings. I have watched another reactor watch this show before and had to stop when they got to these few episodes because they were so dismissive of Buck's hurt and took the parents' side. They essentially went "Buck should just get over it"...reacting to a show requires more than just watching it and the difference in quality between what you do and what some reactors do is MASSIVE to me. I just wanted you to know that it is very much appreciated.

Insane performance, like he's been great the whole show but oof did that hammer home how well he plays Buck

Harry Allen

Awww thank you for the kind words, really appreciate it 🧡

Agreed. He has always been amazing as Buck. But that is one of my fav Oliver performances in the show. He just made you feel every emotion.

Albert running away before Chimney can tell him the Big Bad Secret still makes me cackle every time. He's RIDICULOUS. I love Albert. I keep hearing so much about the "Covid sourdough phase" but I never lived it. I work in a hospital and it was just tiring and confusing AF day to day. I wasn't a medical staff but I was still considered frontline cuz I work admin in a hospital outpatient clinic. I remember just being so jealous of all the people who could work from home cuz obviously we never did. The thing about the nicknames and the name "Maddie" was just because their parents don't like nicknames (hence hating that Buck goes by "Buck") but "Maddie" is usually not a given name and rather a nickname for Madeline or Madison or some other name I can't think of. Chim clearly assumed that was the case but Maddie reveals here that "Maddie" is not a nickname but is the actual name on her birth certificate. I LOVE that May can and does go to Bobby to talk about things. The bomber guy thought that Chimney was making up a whole story to distract him. Maybe he even assumed he invented Buck. When he saw Buck with the name "Buckley" on his back, he said "you weren't lying" after confirming that this was really Buck. It is INSANE that Buck's parents never visited the myriad of times he was in hospital. Forget the emergency tracheostomy on a first date - he was CRUSHED BY A LADDER TRUCK. It was on live TV! Like...the fact that they just "heard about it"...and never even visited during his long recovery process (from what we've gathered) is just wild. I feel so sorry for Buck. That scene with Buck exploding at his parents...pure perfection. DAMN he can make you feel all the feels. I hate that the parents were like "you kids never made it easy for us" and I'm SO glad Maddie replied what she did. Whatever tragedy they went through, whatever PTSD they had, did NOT give them an excuse to treat their kids like that. Buck once told Chim that he just always thought his parents liked each other more than they liked their kids, which is just so damn sad. We think of the word "abuse" and what comes to mind is the obvious but neglect is also a form of it. Buck and Maddie were definitely neglected. No one knew a thing about Doug and who he really was. Apparently he kept up a pretty good guise. So Phillip and Margeret really shut out their own daughter and didn't attend her wedding because they just didn't like the guy. All the snide comments sprinkled in even now, never letting her forget such a painful abusive past even for a singular interaction...getting almost disgusted with Buck for suggesting that these comments are not "compliments"...even after knowing what their trauma is, nothing will ever make me like the Buckley parents. The baby box was SO hurtful. You can see the realisation on Buck's face that he doesn't have one, which just feeds into his feelings of unworthiness and being unwanted. In a way, he WAS. His parents did not bother to keep a single keepsake of his childhood. Damn. DAMN. Their behaviour unfortunately makes sense for people who have never wanted to even consider therapy and only went after all these years not as a way to cope with their grief but to complain about Maddie's abusive ex. I'm gonna correctly assume that their therapist have not had any luck in getting them to break through on anything because they're not even aware that they're saying all the wrong things to a survivor of domestic violence. No way in hell their therapist could even have tried to get them to deal with Daniel's death or attempted to get them to be better parents to Maddie and Buck.
