Loved this episode but GOD was it unnerving! Just watching two people so casually hunt and basically torture people to their deaths was insane.

Hunting season is an actual defined time that starts in the spring. Other hunters wouldn't be legally allowed to hunt earlier. The reason the victims are taken/killed in the spring is because it's right before everyone else's hunting season, so there is much less risk of being caught/etc. while still keeping to the same general tradition.

In New England, hunting season is in the fall. Turkey first and then deer.

On the hunting issue. In many areas, hunting is actually good for the region. If the deer herds get too large, many will starve during the lean months, because there isn't enough food. Bullet is quicker and the meat serves a purpose. Also, deer and turkeys cause so many car accidents a year, many of them fatal to the human in the car. So again, keeping their numbers at a certain level is a safety thing. Honestly, we created the problem, by killing many of the predators. Wolves, bears, etc were hunted because they kill livestock and can be dangerous when they are too close to human settlements. But, without the predators, the deer and turkey get more numerous than the land can actually support. Around where I live, people have gardens that are more than an acre in size. You wouldn't believe the damage a few deer can do to that! I do not know anyone who hunts for sport in Maine. People hunt to protect their gardens, keep deer from dying slow deaths by starvation and to fill their freezers with meat to feed themselves. I used to feel bad when my Dad and Grandfather went hunting....until the year the deer ate all our cucumbers, corn, tomatoes and a few other things in the garden. Put a dent in our budget, having to buy all those fresh veggies, rather than just going out and picking them from the garden. We ate deer meat year round, in addition to the meat we would buy at the store. I do agree that hunting for sport is just wrong....there is zero reason to hunt something just to make a rug or hang the head on your wall. Hunting should only be done to help feed people, and protect people, gardens and livestock.
