I cried during the funeral watching it the first time, and I cried now. I think they chose John to sacrifice himself because that was the condition of the spell, at least that's how I understood it, a parent sacrificing his life for his/her child. Moreover, the audience probably couldn't handle another loved character besides Jenna die. (I know that I wouldn't be able to. 😅) Absolutely heartbreaking episode, looking forward to future episodes.

I imagine at least part of the reason Klaus wanted to "become" a hybrid is because that's what he is supposed to be. I mean, the witches cursed him a thousand years ago for something he had no choice in, who wouldn't want to remove it? He's also a massive dick so its understandable that they'd want to curse him, but I'd be upset too if somebody somehow forced me to be unable to be truly myself because of who my parents were (of all things).

When Jenna turned and you got excited and like ”ooh vampire Jenna 😀“ I was like 🥺 Oh no, this isn’t any good 🥺 Still gets me everytime, it’s so devestating. Bonnie coming out doing her thing, with the thunder and hurricane, the music in the background is just iconic. Queen Bonnie ❤️🙌🏼

I guess the killing of Jenna has the purpose to isolate Elena and Jeremy that from now on will be even more vulnerable and in need of friends and for Elena and Jeremy too grow up faster than they would and for Elena to be the adult responsible for his brother. Jeremy and Elena are even closer and emotionally they are the Gilbert family they have nobody else. Our circle of friends is getting more and more reliant on each other specially emotionally they all have lost someone or something and they feel more isolated and hopeless than ever. I love how Damon tried his best to fix the situation and how he took dead Elena to his brother first and turn to Jeremy to tell him he is sorry for Jenna. He might be impulsive, but he has such a kind gestures for the people he cares that are so overlooked. Like he didn’t wanted Elena to know he is dying. And Elena even though is angry with him, at the funeral among everybody she is searching for Damon emotional support by looking at him with her eyes full of tears. I also loved Stefan’s face of dismay at the news that Damon was bitten, and talking about acting the nervous hand gesture he does are the little touches that make the difference and separate TVD actors from most actors that doesn’t know how to make a natural emotional response that effects audiences. I agreed Nina acting is superb always. This episode is so hearth breaking.

its bizarre about what u said about love, katherine literally said a few eps ago in the flashback "if you cease to believe in love, why would you want to live"

Harry Allen

Thats what confuses me about her because after she turned she became this super self preserving being and if you are always only focused on yourself, how would you be able to love others?

Patpet

The problem with Katherine is that she is so bend to survive at all cost that has become her priority above anything else, to survive she lies all the time and lying have become second nature to her. She doesn't even know anymore what is true and what is not, it is very typical of a pathological lier to start to believe to her own lies, apart when the reality of things bring out her real feelings, like she is saying all the time she loves Stefan and she doesn't care for Damon, at the point that she preferred her freedom at the cost of Damon dying, but she look for him she shower in his room, she wants to sleep with him, and like here she doesn't want him to leave and die with him and her in the outs. Katherine is lying to herself too. Katherine is the inverse mirror of Elena. As Elena is selfless and she isn't scare of dying, Katherine is selfish and she is so scare of dying that she would do anything and sacrifice anyone in order to stay alive.

This one is heartbreaking!! Elena has lost all the guardian figures in her life in such a short span of time that there is no way you feel for her. Losing Jenna and then also knowing that John isn't going to be in her life anymore is also because she is standing alive today must be super overwhelming for this young girl. Although Damon, Stefan and Bonnie tried to save people close to Elena as best as they could...we all knew that it won't work out exactly like how they would want it to be unfortunately. But they tried and that deserves appreciation. I have to mention that I loved how Elena walked to the sacrifice spot with her head held and with no fear. She knew that she was going to come back but she was fierce because she realised that all this while she had been doing things as she was asked to by Elijah and yet she has lost Jenna. So it makes one understand that following the rule book isn't always going to end up being great. The world isn't black and white and Elena is learning that but in very heartbreaking ways. I blame the funeral scene at the end and John's letter every time I watch this episode and cry. Damon telling Stefan about how he isn't making it after the wolf bite and not to tell Elena about the same because he doesn't want to add to her grief just makes it worse for me. These moments of him thinking about Elena above himself is always why I realise that this man loves unconditionally. And Stefan's reaction to the news was well done. Stefan was thinking about Elena needs everyone there for her because she has lost her loved ones straight away changed into fear for him because if he lost his brother he would lose all of his family. That just hurts. Katherine not wanting Damon to leave mad and actually trying to explain to him how she had no choice but to lure Jenna was bullshit but not exactly. It is one of those rare instances where Katherine's walls crumble. The fact that Damon might die and they still have a lot of things unsolved is concerning for her. And then when she mentions how she didn't love get in the way hit the right chords. As a character Katherine I feel has been betrayed by men like her father, the father of her child and Klaus that eventually she became a person who simply understood that it's always about survival. I do believe that she had great affection for Damon but his love is consuming. It is not easy to be loved that deeply and not let it affect you so according I am thinking it was best for her to not let the love get in the way. And she was sort of giving him the answers to his earlier question. She did love him but just not enough to let it get in the way of her other plans. And I don't think Damon could have a better response. 'Enjoy an eternity alone Katherine'. The only person who planned an eternity with Katherine was Damon and today he has understood that she doesn't understand the significance of true love and never will because sacrifices and selflessness are sometimes part of the deal.

TVD plays a lot with inverse mirror to explore parallel lives but different choices, Katherine and Elena are not the only mirror as you know and as he will discover.

Archna

Hey, thank you!! I missed being here in the last two weeks.

Maribel Humble

Archna, I love your insightful comments.

Maribel Humble

Are you referring to when Damon was talking to Stefan, and his hand was shaking while holding the glass with bourbon? I love those details on TVD.

Archna

That's so sweet!! Thank you and that makes me really happy because I do try to share as much as I can understand from the episodes.
