In my opinion, Damon saying he doesn't want to be human in this episode is a lie he tells to protect his feelings and emotions because we saw in season 2 after Rose died and Damon was vulnerable and alone he admitted to the girl he killed on the road that he missed being human more than anything in the world.

Everybody is telling Damon that the love Elena has for him is conditional to the sire bond, is conditional to her being a vampire, Stefan, Klaus, Rebekah, and Shane, they keep repeating to him this concept, only Elena is telling him differently. But Damon doesn’t like to speculate, as Rebekah he has being used and abused all his life at the point that he must have convince himself he doesn’t deserved to be loved. So he is acting out of that assumption, so he doesn’t get hurt in case everybody else is right. His sentence is his way to make sure Elena see him as Damon not as Stefan, is to discourage her from confuse him their relationship with the one she had with Stefan. So he doesn’t know if he would like to be human with Elena, but what is the point of thinking about it if , he doesn’t know for sure were Elena stands. What if he said yes let’s be human together and Elena go back to love Stefan, how that would expose him to deep hurt. And we know that Damon weakness, are his emotions, he keeps buried inside to avoid exposing himself to be hurt. But he doesn’t realise that everybody are telling him the same things because they have their own agenda, Shane as well, which was divide and conquer, but Damon saw that and by telling him that he doesn’t care about Bonnie, he was playing him as he was playing him. Damon and Bonnie don’t have the best record, but at this point I don’t think, Damon hates anybody of our circle of friends, but quite the contrary, that was Damon on a dimmer switch in season one, we past that long ago, now Damon does feels, he doesn’t want to show it, but he does, there has been many circumstances in which Damon and Bonnie paired up and he saved her life too against Klaus when he was in Alaric’s body. Klaus is hurt, but is hurt has the result of being vindictive as hell, to hurt as much as possible Tyler in any possible way, their battle with words was brilliant, but Tyler cannot win with Klaus, he is capable to hit below the belt with words as only a thousand years vampire that has seen it all, live it all, can do without hesitation or the hint of humanity showing. But Caroline knows how to get him. What I love about the show is that makes you wonder about things in a realistic manner, and doesn’t romanticize things. How would it be to live as a vampire, to be immortal, to live if you are careful for centuries? You would have probably seen it all, live any possible emotion, more times we are built to experience, cynicism and boredom would set in, excitement and wonder for life would disappear, nothing would feel new and challenging anymore, so it makes sense that vampires have heighten emotions, to avoid the inevitable apathy. So yes being eternal is miserable, especially if you are alone.

Firstly, while watching the episode I think it's always important to remind ourselves that, The Vampire Diaries is a show about murderers with consciences who are trying to live as humans. Vampires are an exaggeration of the human condition. Their emotions, senses, physical capabilities, mental status, everything is exaggerated and heightened to a level no human can understand. And among those magnified characteristics is the desire to kill and a lust for human blood. Thinking about living like this for ongoing years knowing that there isn't a defined end so to speak does sound quite miserable. There are pros to being a vampire such as the strength but living as a vampire for decades is the most horrifying thing I feel simply because all of them have experienced being a human and they all had their dreams and desires but now although they can live forever and fulfill those dreams; they will somewhere deep-down want to it end. Especially if you end up losing people in your journey. Speaking about good and bad again in this show we can't be having our human moral compass at play because these people aren't humans although they have the human emotions and everything to them. Klaus and Rebekah have lost their brother and it's sad no doubt. I do feel bad for them because at the end of the day it was family for them and the amount of emphasis the family theme has in this show is incredible. You might have the most dysfunctional relationships with the family, but you will always care for them. Hence, I agree with Rebekah's statement that when it's about them all wanting to do anything and everything to protect their loved ones, it's a fair play on both sides. Each and every one of them lets go of their morals supernatural or not, they all will kill and die for their family. So, in this aspect, no one's worse or better than the other and it's understandable. Klaus attacking Caroline was something I wasn't expecting simply because one would think his feelings might stop him from wanting to ever cause her harm, but I guess not. He does end up saving her and honestly kudos to Caroline for getting through to him once again. Moments like these go on to show the difference between a character like Damon and Klaus. Damon would never be able to harm Elena instead he will take it out on someone else which isn't fair morally but it's what it is with him whereas Klaus is capable of harming someone he might be in love (romantically) with. Bu then again, It did make me think hypothetically if say something ever happened to Stefan and Damon couldn't prevent it, would he lose his cool with say Katherine (if she wasn't the manipulative one) and still very much be in love with? Not sure, but brother bonding is deep for these two so it wouldn't surprise one bit if all that love would have reduced to zero for the sake of his brother. In all of this I felt really bad for Tyler. He was trying to be the best leader possible for his pack but unfortunately, he just ended up losing the battle and the war against the original. The comment about drowning being the best way to kill someone was horrible and I really wish Tyler could've at the least thrown something back at him. Because honestly, he didn't have anything to do with Kol's death.

Damon solving things and getting the bigger picture of out of Shane just is like the big reminder as to why and how he can hold all of them together. He says he doesn't care about Bonnie and all, but we all know by now that he isn't being honest. He has saved her life in the past despite claiming that he doesn't care. I think him not caring is more applicable in situations where he has to make a choice between someone, he isn't the closest with and someone he loves for example Stefan and Elena. Even then I can't say he won't care because he will cry and mourn the person and still do what it takes to keep his loved and close one's safe. It's selfish but it's truthful and what is great is that he doesn't deny it. The whole thing about be human and not wanting to take the cure makes a hell lot of sense to me coming from Damon's pov. This cure firstly is still very much a mystery. Plus, both Elena and him have not had the time to just be with each other without all the other tension, so how do we expect him to be envisioning a possible future with Elena as a human and growing old? At this point, he isn't even sure about where the relationship is at. Everyone around him keeps telling him that Elena loves him because of the sire bond and because she is a vampire. As much as he wouldn't want to believe it, he does have a hard time not thinking about it. For him, Stefan was the perfect guy so why would someone like Elena be in love with him? He has already experienced being cheated and manipulated in love and although Elena isn't anything like Katherine in these aspects, unknowingly she has found herself between the two brothers and Katherine's choice was Stefan apparently and human Elena has never confessed her love with Damon earlier so how would he believe anything different? I'm really glad he spoke the fact that he is not wanting Elena to take the cure because he doesn't want to end up being with her for a small amount of time and then end up losing her when she dies and be left alone again. It's good to see him being open about it and communicating. I'm not totally sure about how Elena took that but her being upset over it is also understandable. If two people want different things, is love enough to keep them together?

The gang is being naive, making plans about the cure without even having it and the consequences that could entail. The answer that Damon gave Elena was a more realistic approach to the situation because things may not necessarily be better if they take the cure in the real world or TVD’s world. Another favorite scene in this episode was when Elena, Rebekah, and Stefan were looking for the stone because I feel it was the first time I saw Stefan speaking from the heart as to why he wanted the cure due to his miserable existence as a vampire.
