I have difficulty achieving richness in colors using layer modes, how do you deal with this?

good question! first of all, don't just paint with a single flat color on a layer mode, but use shifts and gradients and also, i think painting over everything after you've used layer modes is kinda necessary to add more variety and richness its a good topic for a lil video, maybe ill make one

i usually work with around 4-5k pixels on the longer dimension for single characters, and probably more like 6 for larger scenes
