Absolutely Amazing! Talking over the process one time and highliting key elements is such a big help! I've noticed, some studies you construct the subject when painting and some you don't. Any rule of thumb you follow there? I find that sometimes the shapes and fluidity suffer when constructing the figure for example, but just painting with no lines increases the needed time for a study by quite a lot. (which might not necessarily be a bad thing)

i usually do some kind of rough drawing even when the study is meant to be painting-focused when i dont do a drawing personally its mostly to try to expose myself to starting directly with shape and to slowly get more and more used to that approach over time, because i still find it pretty uncomfortable i also think that certain subjects (like portraits, figures, drapery, or complex hard surface objects) lend themselves more to drawing and it pays off to invest a bit of time there before you get into painting whereas other things (like more organic or simple subjects) are more easily approached without any line at all if you find that painting with no lines slows you down, it might just be that you otherwise use those lines as standings for edges or rendering factors, and now without them you actually have to solve those problems or you might just be less familiar with direct painting and youll regain the speed you typically have over time hope that helps!

I like this format of you talking over the process!
