We are finally reaching the point where my modules are coalescing into the original idea: tools to create, manage, and play entire game worlds in Foundry VTT. The next Augur Sci-Fi update brings that vision much closer by adding NPCs, factions, and ships as first-class entities, each with their own dossiers, generators, visual assets, and connections to the wider campaign web.

The new NPC dossier gives each character a clean, readable profile with personality traits, a portrait, and compact story prompts like Descriptor / Role / Drive and Action / Theme / Focus. The goal is to give GMs just enough structure to spark ideas without locking the character into a wall of prewritten lore. Completely customizable, of course.

The Sci-Fi module will also include portraits, so generated NPCs can immediately feel grounded in the setting. You can reroll, edit, choose a different portrait, or link the NPC to an Actor later if you want to place them directly on a scene. This makes NPCs easier to create, organize, connect, and actually use during play.

Ships are also becoming their own Nexus entities. A ship dossier gives each vessel a compact identity through Model / Class / Role and Action / Theme / Focus, while the ship image picker lets you choose between different models and visual styles (included in the module). The intent is to make ships feel like more than scenery: they can become recurring campaign objects with their own presence, purpose, and relationships.

Most importantly, ships plug directly into the Nexus connection system. You can assign crew, link a ship to factions, connect it to places, attach important items, or tie it into an NPC’s affiliations. This means a ship can sit at the center of a small web of story: who owns it, who serves on it, who wants it, and where it belongs.

Factions are the third major piece of this update, and they are essential for making a sci-fi setting feel believable. A world becomes much more interesting when it is shaped by companies, syndicates, militias, cults, colonies, research groups, and political blocs all pushing toward their own goals. The new faction dossier captures that quickly with Type / Method / Drive and Action / Theme / Focus, giving each group a clear identity without forcing a long lore entry.

Like NPCs and ships, factions are built around the Nexus connection system. They can have members, rival groups, affiliated ships, important places, and key items connected directly to them. This lets a faction become more than a name in a notes page. It becomes part of the campaign web, something the GM can browse, expand, and use to generate pressure across the game.

And of course, I will try to include as many of your suggestions as possible in this next update. I read every comment here on Patreon, Discord, Reddit, and YouTube, and I’m doing my best to add the things you’ve been asking for: galaxy maps, custom star images, orbiting ships, orbiting site markers, and many, many more.

This is a colossal update, and I’ve been even more obsessed than usual working on it. I’m aiming to release it next week!

Yes! I've been looking for something like this for a Starfinder 2e campaign in the vast I'm running. Looking forward to this. Hopefully there's a way to add other races to the portrait generator somehow.

Scorpious187

This looks and sounds epic as hell! Will you be adding this same functionality with a more fantasy-aimed theme as well?

The Augur

You will be able to add your own portraits. Also, I will be adding a small set of alien rsces portraits that I found!

The Augur

Definetely! I intend to start working on a fantasy oriented module once I release this one.

Super cool stuff! One idea that came to mind while playing around with the solar system generator was how cool it would be to have the position of the planets be calculated using keplers laws and have it use the actual ingame time (bonus for interfacing with modules like Simple Timekeeping). That way planet position would be predictable and could be an awesome game feature for things like planing travel routes and stuff. Also beeing able to set the excentricity of an orbit would be cool for planets like Triaxus in the Starfinder universe. Lastly, a freeform text field for arbitrary notes in a planets data sheet would be nice.

The Augur

Those are excellent ideas. The time-based position is an amazing feature, but it is something that will require me to implement a time-keeping system in the nexus module (I don't want to rely on third-party modules). It is something I have wanted to do since the beginning, but it's still a bit off in the future as I have so much stuff to do before that... I have an ambition to build the ultimate suite of interconnected tools to basically run and explore entire game worlds inside foundry vtt. I am slowly chipping at that goal with each update of my different modules. As for orbits, I think that is something much more approachable for the upcoming update. I will give it a try today to see if I can create something that looks nice and is customizable enough.

Once the foundation is in place for the ships it'd be great to have a Fleet option setting as well which can detail the number of sub ships and maybe a handful of randomized ship images shrunk down to fit a smaller frame image wise that indicate its a fleet of ships not just one.

These updates have been incredible. Much thanks to all of your hard work! Question; although system agnostic, is there a home-brew system you're working on that would utilize these modules?

SSpectra

Bro you are cooking! Keep it up love the Augur!

The Augur

Thank you!!! I truly love working on these modules.

The Augur

Excellent idea!!! This will probably make it to a future update, as this one is on "feature lockdown" as I am working on polishing all the new stuff I added.

The Augur

Thank you and super happy to know the modules are useful! For now I do not intend to add my own system, there is still so many ideas that I want to implement before doing something like that. But its not impossible! It would probably be something GM-less as I am a solo player myself.

Hey, sorry for bringing this up here, not sure where else to post. I've been using the Nexus and Sci-Fi modules for Foundry, and they've been great. However, I noticed some changes recently that have broken my setup. I no longer see the planet or system editor that allows me to change the speed of planets. I also cannot access planets by clicking on them; I have to access through the Nexus, specifically. I've gone through the process of removing modules one at a time, but nothing has resolved this issue. Any ideas?

The Augur

Hello, your description points to the sci-fi module either not being active or failing to activate when the world loads for some reason. Can create new systems/sectors? And, when you start the game can you press F12 to open the console to see if there is any error appearing there? (Usually on red letters). Edit: if you use discord join the discord server at https://discord.gg/GNf5XRv5Hr where its easier to talk and yoh can send me screenshots to troubleshoot this.
