I don’t think Verso was unpainted. She keeps him alive because she’s the only one that can unpaint him. Which is even worse because he’s the same Verso, trapped and watching his sister die while being forced to perform. The “alert” sound when she finally becomes corrupted completely broke me.

Best ending. Gustave happy ending > Verso Also the little boy is supposed to be a restored version of kid Verso’s soul. He’s no longer fractured because the people fighting in his canvas were all kicked out. Also, please please please ascend the gestral tower

I think people have an unnecessarily sinister view of this ending. I don't think Maele is being malicious to Verso at least thats not her intention. She knows based on an earlier conversation that Verso finds joy in music and performance and is hoping that he will find value of his existence through this. The ending shows us that he has not changed his mindset at all. The shift to black and white is also a shift to Verso's perspective, but I don't think it is meant to be taken literally (in terms of the stinger) it's more Verso resigned to the fact that his sister has chosen her second life which is her better life. I don't blame her. She is mute, burned and resented by her real family except maybe her father but even he cares more about her safety than her feelings or happiness. This girl experiences a level of neglect and manipulation that imo far outweighs Verso's continued existence, especially when he lies to get what he wants and screws everyone else in the process. I think I would feel differently if I got any indication that Alica's original life had the emotional support she needed but I think the fact that she is standing separate from the rest of her family and is not embraced or consoled by them at all sealed how much I hate the rest of the family and so I couldn't care less about the fact that she chooses the canvas. I'm all for facing reality, but the thing is that for Alica her life as Maele is just as real. She is the only character in the game who has two life experiences, and is constantly being manipulated in both. When you add all this to the fact that beings in the canvas get to exist, I prefer this ending.

This was the ending i got and i was uncertain how to feel. Having seen the other ending i am happy there is no good ending. Killing Siel and Lune, monocco, eskie and all the gestrals, grandis ect... so Maella can move on and verso can die is not a definitively good ending either. But forcing Verso to live on and all these people get to live is good but does feel uncomfortable with how controlled it is. I do like the ambiguity. If only Maella could let verso go and keep the canvas going but alas no perfection exists.

Both endings have merit, both endings have good and bad. Verso doesn't want to exist in the canvas anymore, he wants his sister to leave and live a real life and survive as the canvas will slowly kill her. Maella/Alicia doesn't want to exist in the real world anymore, she wants her brother to be alive and to get to spend time with him and this found family she has. Both are tragic, both are selfish, both are impossible choices. This game is so bloody good!!
