1.4 and finished another segment. scene? segment feels too big. but scene is supposed to be one location only, and this spans. so i guess it's segment. it's a Bit. i finished a Bit.

making quality writing is a two step process:

  • first the writing needs to exit.

  • then it can be made good (i.e edited)

i find that a lot of self-conscious writers tend to put the cart before the horse--
they want to write in one take, and have it be good.
this is an ideal; i don't think it's reasonable.

for any normal person, not only is the first draft not going to be good-- it should not be.
trying to make the first draft good is a detriment to actually completing step 1.
if you are editing as you go, or fussing about if it's perfect or even-good enough, you are going to trip over your own feet and get in the way of making it in the first place.

i'm still guilty of that a lot. i consider myself a self-conscious writer.

once the base text exists, then it can be analyzed and revised and molded into a shape that actually suits our purpose-- into something good.

but first, it has to exist.
no matter how bad it is, just make it exist.

do not try to do step 2 during step 1.
and once you're done with step 1, don't neglect step 2,
if you even still care.

c: idk if i have anything to add, but the cat is really needy and it's distracting me.

so you just enjoy that.
