perfection is the devil's fruit, and we are sinners in his garden (Patreon)

was awoken yesterday by gunshots outside the house. had to file a witness statement and all that fun stuff. sounds like a college party down the block went bad. all safe, but not good for the rest or peace of mind.
but this morning has been nice-- haven't slept much still, but i was excited to write, and i worked to the sound of cold rain, with hot tea, and a warm cat.

so we talked about the word perfection, but not really what to do about it.
in my view, there are two remedies.
the first is, in itself, understanding it. this is true for the procrastination as well.
in order to solve a problem, you have to know what it is.
if you misdiagnose the problem, you cannot solve it.
if you understand the problem, you become capable of doing so.
the problem with procrastination is not that you don't want to do it-- it's that you do, and something is stopping you.
only when you understand that can you actually figure out what the thing stopping you is and begin to figure out solve it.
this is why "perfectionism" has no end-- you can keep fixing and fixing and fixing something and it will never feel better, because it is a misdiagnosis of the problem.
the thing was never the problem; your insecurity is.
if you are concerned about the good-enoughness of your writing, there is a solution to that.
this is the second remedy.
it's called editing.
refer back to what i said about writing being a two step process.
make it exist.
then make it good.
do not put the cart before the horse.
your horse will trip and your cart will spill and you will have a bad time and not go anywhere at all.
c: existence is, itself, imperfect. bringing a creation into it will naturally mean the creation shares that trait.
