yesterday was animation reviews, and something i had put off uniquely for beta-- namely going through the game's animation base and handling all animations that aren't totally finished. there's a lot of them. in fact i can give you a list. here's everything to be taken care of:

  • After You
  • Bone Club
  • Bone Rush
  • Captivate
  • Catastropika
  • Dual Chop
  • Gigavolt Havoc
  • Gravity
  • Hydro Vortex
  • Inferno Overdrive
  • Magnitude
  • Memento
  • Metal Burst
  • Sandstorm
  • Sinister Arrow Raid
  • Sky Drop
  • Snarl
  • Soak
  • Swallow
  • Weather Ball

many.

like i said, these are all the animations that have been started, and were in progress, but have not been finally approved yet. some of them are barely along their path to greatness. some of them like metal burst or gigavolt havoc, are totally done and fantastic for the player's side, but not for the opponent's. others, like swallow, are done for both sides but an error in-game prevents me from approving it.

but-- oh jeez, i don't want anything to break, you know? i mean i can probably finish them... i think. but you know what? this would probably be a lot easier if i just deleted them. they're the ones making this so difficult. ahaha! well, there goes nothing.

the reason i do this is for polish, firstly-- obviously-- and to avoid people reporting unfinished animations as animation bugs. not... that... hardly anyone reports animations as bugs, even when they're awful. i don't know if they don't notice or if they're just so used to the awful animations that come with essentials or what. but i guess it's not really their problem. still, i don't want to enable that.

the reason i did not do this sooner is to allow as much time as possible for the animators to keep working on and fixing things before the episode releases. i had outlined beta as the cut off time wayy back at the start of october, dear god how has it been so long already what am i even doing.

i definitely don't want the stray animations in the community release where they will be seen and reported by the world, so i should make sure to have them out by beta juuuuuuust in case i mess anything up. sometimes deleting things can break the game-- ah, but-- don't worry. i'll be sure not to delete anything that would come between us, okay?

..and anyway there was no point in deleting them at alpha or sooner because the devs had obviously already seen them, and you guys had also already seen many of them at streams too. so i knew y'all would understand.

but they don't exist anymore.
there's just you, and me.
just ame.
just ame.
just ame.
and all the other animations too i guess.

Wait, was that Crafty Shield Normal type? ... Oh yeah... Huh. *Goes to the forum to make a post.*

My guess is that people don't report animation issues because they assume they're either WIP left unfinished on purpose, or bugs already known by the devs. Since it's something blatantly visible. *cough*DDLCisoverhyped*cough*
