okay, more work on starlight yesterday while i'm avoiding all of my rebornly responsibilities:

attack command is working through to the point it would need to load the combat system now! that's a nice milestone and opens up a big door for me to head through. but gotta do some sidequests in this area first:

  • fixed an issue that units couldnt move to the space they were already on cuz a unit was on it
  • fixed an issue that caused units to try to "talk" to the cursor if it was adjacent to them since RPG Maker is not set up for a tactical battle system...
  • added deselection pre-movement
  • currently working on deselection/cancelling movement

to that lost point you can see i've got the menu to update whether X is Wait or Cancel based on whether or not we're hovering over our selected unit. that was kind of a dilemma for me--

because on one hand i want this to be as intuitive to players of FE as possible, and FE players are used to being able to cancel from anywhere (as opposed to when not hovering the unit). however, i also want to streamline the controls to minimize scrolling menus since that is the modern way.

ASZX matches up to a controller's ABXY pretty well so i also wanted to keep it to four buttons... so had to be a little bit clever with not overlapping those two purpose's for X. my hope is that with the action palette updating it won't be unclear when to do each.

next up, gotta make deselection work after movement too. that one's a little more involved since it tosses the unit and cursor back to square one.... but there's an event command for that so nothing to it but to do it.

from what I've seen so far, developing Starlight will make you better in -so- many things, from art all the way to coding. and given how much heart you'll put into this game as well... we will watch your career with great interest.

Woo looking good Ame! Which version of RPGM are you using for Starlight?
