[E19 Spoilers] Elite 3/4 Graphxx
- No Bars 32
- With Bars 9
Following up on yesterday's post-- The idea was to post some snippets of the room I finished before.
Let's start with the easy play. Here's a snippet of the room itself. No points for guessing who's it is.

I mentioned it on the server, but the tileset for this room (and each e4 room) averages out to about ~680 tiles minus some whitespace for things not fitting. for this room in particular, all tiles are entirely custom except the stairs (which you can notice as the same pattern from beryl library.)
anyway, stained glass is neat. smeargle mentioned it in the stream the other day and i'm like yeah ok sure sounds good
i didn't exactly have the foresight to create a step-by-step marker of the stained glass spriting process, but what i do have is the following:

this is, not exactly step by step, but several steps in the middle of the process. after making the general window shape i sprited out various tiers of rings and then lines going out from them in a web like fashion, and then staggered those lines as much as feasible. i then filled out the various squares with an approximate color pattern. that leads us to the first of those three images.
the second's step is refining the color distribution and marking up the outlines to match the window color. the straight line palette is the outline palette.
the third step is just blemding.
the window bars go on top because i had those on a separate upper layer, so i was editing these parts behind them. i didn't actually save these to show though-- i saved the bottom layers only because i wasn't sure which step would be the easiest to cut the window pattern out of for the sake of making a light effect out of later. that's right, the above screenshot will be emdazzled even more once event-based window lighting is added. it's nothing super fancy. but it is an addition.
for reference, here's the... well, reference, image that i used for spriting the stained glass... i'll link cuz it's kinda big:

finally, despite having done all this, i have a bit of a dilemma. you'll notice in the image above there are horizontal bars marking the panels for the window at each segment. I rather liked this, so I was going to include it. However, I felt like it might take away from the stained glass itself if I did so. So I've created and saved versions both with and without the horizontal bars. I can easily use either.
But since I'm indecisive, you all decide for me. It's a minor detail, but like, you know, whatever.
Here is the original, without bars:

and here is the version with bars:

it's so, so minor. it's barely worth the effort of a poll. but here we are.
which do you prefer?
