goal: finish tooth and buckle by may

status: it's not tomorrow until the sunrises or i do mmmmmmmmmmmbitch

let's start with the boring pre-requisite. you know how in, say, idk, fire emblem, you move next to a door and then you get a command to open it? well that's all good and peachy if your game is controlled by a series of menus, but what if you're too good for menus?

i'll skip to the end, it's this:

environment-sensitive button appears!
d stands for door
specifically door2 but that was just for testing to make sure if there were multiple door it got the right door
it got the right door
it can say other things too.
and if you're looking at the map and wondering where the door is, it's those pyramid-lookin' things. i just used a random tile. and they don't actually open. but they very easily could open and easily could look like door, and that's what matters.

what else matters? it's glasya and lynnoe, again.

so their ability Tooth and Buckle which i've talked about at least twice now gives them a similar conditional button. lynnoe's sprite isn't done yet so the overworld won't quite show it (but it very easily could show it, and that's what matters) but if we are hovering over a glasya that has lynnoe with him, like say, this one:

then players will find this special button!

hitting separate lets you choose a valid spot to drop to...

and lynnoe can be deployed separately!

(cat sprite still placeholder, even though it kinda works)

the units then update and you'll notice that the 'tooth and buckle' ability has been split along with them into two separate abilities:

these abilities enable a new command when their holders are standing next to each other:

either glasya or lynnoe can use the 'join' command, but since lynnoe is the one who hides in his unit it doesn't use his action if she's the one joining. she also has her own health bar! he keeps his whether joined or separate.

i realized only after finishing all this that i have basically created the rescue/pair-up system from FE. well, fine. it's only for these two though, and i'm hoping it'll open some creative options/mobility for the duo. for instance, lynnoe can move on the same turn she's deployed which should open some options over the rescue system at least.

the battle map is almost done. i've mainly got just a handful of decorative tiles to finish up adding and then it'll be time to implement parralax support. super looking forward to everything except the programming part of that. that is probably the next big code hurdle.
lots of combat models are still in progress. i'll show them off once they get to final stages.

looking forward to this month overall.  i hope everyone is still holding up. our state is reopening next?? this??? week, and personally i'm not a fan. please stay safe.

next update post on the 6th, with this month's streams.
