first, let's start off with the backgrounds themselves.
here's for the amphitheater area.

...patreon i am BEGGING you please add a dark mode, for so many reasons. these are dark backgrounds. they are meant to be dark so they can be in the b a c k. they do not look good surrounded by white.
this is the one we mostly did on stream on saturday, though we couldn't finish it without taking the top off of the above one so we can see bits of the buildings towering over us

and finally one we just can make from the bits and pieces of other ones and use for outside, lookin' in

the backgrounds all divide into floor/walls already so the code is creating new combinations of stuff for us in game as we need it-- the above images are compiled manually just to show.
and by 'the code is creating combinations of stuff' i mean, the code had no handling of backgrounds to decide where to use which one yet (since we only had one set before) . . . until today.
but now it dooooo tho, it is set up for the demo maps, it is set up to easily receive backgrounds for future maps, and it is all neatly organized in its separate little file. like an essentials PBS file, but with less regex and more js.
knocking that out is great, getting the backgrounds done is great because those are 100% for the demo now; backgrounds are cancelled. no more. strike that off the damn to-do list.
actually to-do lists are banned; this one is metaphorical.
other stuff from tonight
i was talking to our artist, falcon, about a game he wants to make for himself one day and we briefly looked at what blender could do for him when i noticed blender handles sounds for animations inherently
shit, i wish dragonbones handled sounds inherently, i said to him, moments before discovering that dragonbones handles sounds inherently.
doesn't work in RPG Maker. but it does it.
so anyway i fixed it and it now works in RPG Maker. or, well, it works in my custom code at least, so close enough. unfortunately dragonbones doesn't provide any sort of volume or pitch control. . . . . . but i hacked that into its event name too. ez game
my original plan was to layer RPG Maker-native animations for sound control on top of dragobones' silent animations but now not only do i not need to make an infrastructure for that, but this opens up a lot more control for adding sounds on different types of animations rather than just attack ones. it is more inuitive, more flexible, and saves me time in the short term.
frankly, arguably better compared to essentials too.

....that's just for context for the title. i was gonna do more with it, but it is soooo five minutes ago.
anyway point is i love it when i'm good at my job. ok bye
