Remapping Rhodochrine Process (Patreon)
Content
hi! i meant to post this, like, a day? after my last post or maybe even the post before that. i don't remember anymore. i'm bad at this. remember when i posted daily? i don't. but this is better, because i'm focused on the work more than the posts.
anyway, i've had this saved up for a bit-- i took some screenshots of my process as i was remapping the rhodochrine jungle, and today i will share them with you!
this is definitely going to show the entire area, so if you'd rather be surprised when you actually replay that part of the game, maybe skip this post. if you don't want that, scroll away!

so i forgot to take a screenshot of my initial sketch alone, but you can see most of my rough sketch here around a few landmarks, and you can see i've started doing the proper cliffs in the top left

then we add some more landmarks, and build more cliffs

finishing the cliffs in the main areas

then we add a few buildings since we're still, like, right next to town, and move onto cliffing the screen border and surrounding areas, again starting from the top left

finish the rest of the surrounding area... we also fill in some tight spaces between transparent cliffs to reduce visual noise

then we add some basic paths along the ground, and idk there were probably some other details, you play spot the difference i give up

... and tree bases for generic tree placement!

that's more or less where i left the map off and picked it up back on stream. if you missed that stream, you can still view it archived on youtube here!
our final map product looks like this!

ta-da~
also, have one bonus screenshot i took. here i accidentally fucked up the tileset graphic somewhere in the early steps, and the entire map became--

..something all right. oh dear. panic.
it's ok, we fixed it.

so last time i mentioned a milestone-- lemme 'laborate. about [VALUE]% of the way way through the quests, there's a story checkpoint. im there. i gotta check my points. and part of checking my points includes a planned intermission to go over and look at the completed-so-far quests more holistically and make sure that everything is relatively cohesive. this is definitely the most disjointed development process i've had, partly for taking a year break in the middle, partly just because segmented quests and legendaries be like that, so i wanted to do all this at once so that i make sure things are actually happening in a reasonable progressive order. so i'm on a brief, erratic pause while i go fix the board.
i only say erratic because tbh rejuv has gotten me very hype to actually get this out
and you know, being so close helps
we've got three other quests progressing independent of my work still
only about five quests have not been started at all yet
someday things will be okay
yeah, they'll be okay
