Listen,

I really, really, really love obscure secret paths in games. For instance in Silver Star Story, having to say No to Ramus 20 times before he gives you the Master Book? that's that shit I feel good about. That also directly inspired the event where you had to pay a homeless person 11 times to get Ralts. Now you only have to pay him 3 times and you get Espurr instead-- since everybody and their mother found out about that event on the forum. Pity.

But I especially like this kind of thing in Pokemon games.

There's a couple direct reasons for this. The first one is a rumour that I heard as a kid-- I can't remember where or from whom. You know in Pokemon Red and Blue, Pallet Town had ALL this grass on the outskirts of it?

Yeah, see it?

Somewhere I heard that there was a secret way to get into that grass, and in it you could find every starter and also Mew.

I spent a lot of time trying to get into that grass.

Today I understand it was just the background-tile graphic they used for that area. But as a kid, god-damn I was hype.

There's another one. I do remember where I heard this one-- I was on a playground with my best friend and some other random kid there told us that in Pokemon Crystal, if you beat Red and then had a Lapras in your party and went to some specific place, that Lapras could take you to a secret section of the game, where you traveled around the Orange Islands and faced that league too.

I spent a lot of time surfing around with Lapras too.

So firstly: Dear random kid who actively lied to me about being able to get to the Orange Islands: fuck you.

And secondly: Dear whatever misinformed person told me Mew was outside Pallet Town in the grass that can't be reached, fuck you twice. The only way I ever got Mew was by spilling ketchup on my link cable (true story btw).

But I have the last laugh.

Some of you might know this already... but Mew is wild, in-game in Reborn. And has been since Episode 8.

See?

Do you want to know where to catch it?

I'll tell you.

You have to take a hidden path. Saphira busts through a part of Tanzan Mountain. Go into the hole. Many of you probably know this area already. There's a crystal that you can use the key from Iolia valley on. Rock Smash your way up, jump across a few ledges that look like you shouldn't be able to get through them, and then head down into a different cave.

There's a few absurd strength puzzles there. The first  is just a warning-- "if you dont have strength, turn back now." the second is just ridiculous. the third was intended to require the player to use an Escape Rope to solve-- but I don't think that ever was actually the case.

After you solve those you can get on top of the wall in a room where there's a Solosis.

But the Solosis is just a distraction.

Mew is in the grass in that room.

Want to see it?

Here it is.

This is my revenge for a tainted childhood.

Yeah... I always thought that patch of grass was suspicious... However from you I'd expect something more devillish - like using escape rope in that room would teleport the player inside the fence and trigger the battle with Mew. Of course after catching it there would be no way to get outside again. Still you could claim that Mew is obtainable in Reborn and be right.

I think the real question is, which tile of desert are the fence cutters hidden under?

.________. ..........please tell me I can get on that grass tile......I knew there was a reason for that crazy area.

Ramiru

Lemme just get CE really quick and I'll have myself a totally legit Mew ;)

Gabby

my life's goal is to reach that level of petty someday *-*

Sardines

*pats a lot* I feel you. First game was Silver version, loved the 2 region travel. Played Yellow. Eventually played Ruby, I hated how it had 1 region. But I was told that if you caught all the Pokemon in Dex, you could get to the Johto and Kanto. All that effort...for nothing...

oooh Ame that's so dirty. Niles would undress on the spot. I remember other kids being fanatics about glitches n stuff, I never understood that - my older brother (and getting his older PCs starting from a damn young age) was a big help in understanding the scope in which things can go wrong/weird in games/programs, what is reasonable or unreasonable ^~^ RIP your time trying to find those things, and, well... (⌒▽⌒)(⌒▽⌒)(⌒▽⌒)*snorts with laughter*

Jacob

I remember those rumors too. My cousin had a mew and he never told me how to get it, but he did the glitch in yellow (I soon later learned about it). " Oh yeah Jacob, you got to beat the Elite 4 and have all the pokemon in the game, and make sure you don't forget to change your settings in your game cart to Wumbo...." Yeah fuck you too man.

Wow, now I'm hoping for someone to attempt to break down those gate tiles XD
