not a good week (Patreon)

i arrive at the function like this:

to make a not-so-long but unfinished story short, my grandpa is dying, my mom and i got in a fight trying to visit him and i have no intention of speaking to her again any time soon, and now our landlord is threatening to sue us for extraordinarily petty reasons

happy february

i think i've spent sixteen of the last 24 hours sleeping. the 24 hours before that, i think we spent sixteen of it or more with both cass and i collectively researching local tenant rights and reaching out to various people in our city and under our landlord to figure out if anything can be done about some of the bullshit going on here. might fuck around and accidentally start a union. we'll see. 

for the about five days before that i spent a not-significant amount of time not sleeping, in large part because our landlord continually requested that we wake up early for him to tour the place that we're still living in. two of those were no shows, two ended in childish arguments.

last night i spent an hour and a half listening to a podcast by a local housing rights activist from the 80's who, as of just a few days ago, is apparently getting back into the game because things are so messed up and so divisive right now. i was able to get some spriting/mapping done during that podcast, so it's not like things aren't moving....... but the vast majority of my energy has been put to fight and recovery.

tomorrow we fly out to oklahoma to see my grandpa one last time. he has stage 4 cancer head to toe. there's a good chance he's already not waking up, i think. we haven't had much of a relationship. things are complicated, but not for any poor treatment on his part to me. this is the side of my family that i was staying with when making episode 2 of reborn, so i randomly named a bunch of people at OTS after them. Hotshot Terry's shooting his last.
