So it’s kind of like tigers at a circus you only have as much control as it lets you have at the end of the day. Also Toya is voice by Moana and in the house of mirrors one of the mirrors was just voice actors animated

Jester is played by Laura Bailey, who recently voiced Invisigal from Dispatch. But she's famous for alot of roles.

Gizmo

yeah biggest difference so far is in the show the backstories are pretty much shown right away and world politics like in episode 1 were shown Essek and in Episode 56 of the game were finally introduced to Essek

Nolan L Thomas

As well as Abby from Last of Us. She is an incredible talented VA.

The Lorax

Probably won't be able to guess Molly's class Dani, as he is a homebrew class made specifically for this campaign. But you'll probably be able to pick up what his general vibe is fairly easily.

The Vox Machina easter eggs while Jester picks out a gift for Fjord were cool to see.

The Lorax

Everyone expect Jester and Fjord played some part in the accident, but it really is a series of unfortunate events. Caleb is the one who wanted to steal the beetles, and got greedy and tried to take a lot of them when he originally only planned on one jar (as seen in the original heist plan). But even still, he actually did leave more than enough beetles that there wouldn’t be a risk that the toad goes hungry. Nott encouraged him to keep going with the plan, and is the one who made Beau pissed at them by first "stealing" her horse, and then actually stealing from her again. And while Nott doesn’t know what she took, that ball, as far as Beau knows, has information that could stop the war and save tens of thousands of lives. So Beau was desperate to get it back. However, Beau is needlessly antagonistic towards them in confronting them the first time and in getting the ball back, and her attacking them it was causes the beetles to escape. Molly and Gustav are the ones who invited Toya and the devil toad to the circus, when it really was playing with (hell)fire. They aren’t normally part of the circus, instead having been brought in as an outside act because they were desperate. And ironically, the hole that Gustav asked to be fixed earlier never was, and that is how the beetles got in. Everything might have been fine even with just that small difference. Fjord honestly did the best out of all of them. While he initially wanted to run, he decides to step up and actually probably saved a few lives. The only fault that could fall on him is being pushed in Caleb, who if left uninterrupted, could probably have killed the toad right then and there. Jester did nothing wrong.

Oh and yeah Beau's voice actress/creator is a big Avatar fan so the comparisons are valid

As for the married couple: Laura (Jester) and Travis (Fjord) were already a couple when they played the first campaign, which became Vox Machina. During that time Travis was still very uncomfortable roleplaying romance at the table, so his Vox Machina character never romanced anyone. That's why Laura basically decided to try and get Travis to at least romance *her* character when they created the characters for their second campaign so she kinda made Jester with that thought in mind!

While Korra’s voice actress, Janet Varney, isn’t in this show (as far as I know), there is a connection to Beau. Beau is voiced by Marisha Ray, who is a big Avatar and Korra fan. In the first campaign she played the character Keyleth who had Avatar-like powers. And this character’s mother was played in the show based on that campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina, by Janet Varney.

Nolan L Thomas

That makes sense. Beau does have a lot of similarities to Korra.

Nolan L Thomas

That’s really dope. The connection.

Nightowl

According to Marisha another big influence on Beau was the Marvel character Jessica Jones, which tracks—she is an exceptionally strong, not overly sociable private investigator.

Nolan L Thomas

With that information, it makes total sense how Beau acts

Nolan L Thomas

Agree with everything. Especially with Jester doing nothing wrong.

So some clarifications: -Laura Bailey & Travis Willingham(Jester and Fjord), dated back in college, broke up, then reconnected later on in life, then married in 2011. They actually had their son back in 2018, when the Mighty Nein campaign was just getting started. -Fjord is indeed a Half-Orc; the other half of his lineage is unknown since his player decided to keep that secret, and he is a Warlock. Fun fact, back when they were making their characters for the campaign, Laura originally wanted Jester to be a Warlock, but Travis also was interested in that class, so she decided to make her a Cleric instead. Begrudgingly. -Mollymauk is a homebrewed class, Blood Hunter, Witcher-like Monster Hunters who specialize in Blood Magic. His player, Taliesin Jaffe, tends to play homebrewed classes/subclasses. It was originally created for Vin Diesel for a one-off series, then heavily updated to become a full-fledged class later on.

Molly reminds of Gambit from X-Men. Super charming and deadly. Jester, Fjord and Molly are innocent. While Caleb, Nott and Beau’s actions are the catalyst for the carnival massacre. But makes me excited for y’all to see how things unfold, especially for Caleb.

Ivan

Jester Could kill a baby and i would WHAT MURDEEER

Sherman Tibayan

The voice actors for Beau (Marissa Ray) and Essek (Matt Mercer) are also married. Beau’s mentor Darion is voiced by Ming Na Wen aka Mulan

Guys [no spoilers: observations from these 3 episodes] - I knew yall would love these characters and honestly it is definitely good to point out their flaws, I think its a shame that some fandoms get so defensive about their characters being "judged", but thats what this campaign / show allows a lot; from a love/hate perspective. It shows the fundamental flaws in some of the people. Caleb for example, in this episode cared for nothing but his own magic, and friendship with Nott. Beau didnt care how she got the pearl back, and [all 3 caused the incident], jester's naivety is great in some situations and brings joy to others but in this instance she could have got hurt. Fjord is afraid of being a coward and wanting to seem like a hero/captain so badly he barely allows himself happiness cos of others opinions. And molly's all good attitude might protect others from sadness but when the death card dropped so did his spirits and the entire vibe of what was happening, but he didnt tell anyone, or warn anyone. You can love the characters but dislike their actions. And thats cool - hope you dont get too much flack from the fellow critical role fans but they generally are quite good understanding perspectives on characters so dont be afraid to talk your shit. ❤️

Nardoc

Dani the spoiler lol

Ganjaman

You guy should 100% watch a "Table to Screen" for season 1 once it's over, I've seen a few reactors do it with Vox Machina

thereactpack

Spoiler?? I have never listened to any critical role 😭 - Dani

Nardoc

No during the reaction when you mentioned seeing something in the opening and Sam and Morgan were like thaannkkksss for that lol

lordpanda

Yes the main party members voice act their characters, same as in vox machina. Matt Mercer VA's several characters.

PP82

Also Rise from Persona 4.

PP82

This entire cast has been in a ridiculous amount of stuff. Fjord's VA (Travis Willingham) was Roy Mustang in the English dub of FMA, and his wife Laura (Jester) in addition to being Abby in TLoU2 was Rise in Persona 4. Literally the entire main cast are VA royalty in both anime and games.
