It really depends on what Fate media it is and which version of him you get. FSN Gil is clearly villainous, but Fate/Strange Fake and Fate/Extra Gil are more heroic. FGO Babylonia and Caster Gil are jsut straight up chill guys who are great kings.

There reason his army looked like it was from different eras was alexander the great conquered so much land and his empire was so vast . It had people from multiple nations and nationality included. Im also pretty sure he was also know to allow conquered countries to continue to mostly govern themselves which made them easier to be loyal to him In exchange

Love that Rin got everyone of those kids to safety and everything Alexander had to say to Saber about being a king is true but yea coming from different era's they have different experience's. As soon as King Arthur pulled the sword from the stone he had to go fight a war with his people he never really had a kingdom to run at first. The Grail only grants one wish, if Saber got to it first without her master present she could make her own wish yea.

The banquet of kings episode is still a really heavily debated episode with Fate fans. I personally think Rider is more charismatic so it seems like he won the argument. But Saber is right, and actual ideal rulers should live for their people.

I like the episode but i don't like how much they change Saber's character in the series just so she can be a punching bag for Iskander and make her ideology clash with Kiritsugu damn. Like, she's not a naive little girl and she won't waver only because another king talking shit about her.
