If they can't open the gates, how would they survive the butlers? The old man took them to meet Mike to let them know that this isn't a game.

Exactly. Gon acknowledge in the last episode he can’t handle Mike, so even if he’s offended that he’s being tested, he understands that he can’t just toxic positivity his way into the Zoldyck estate.

Those guys said they were going to kill the Zoldycks. They just talked about how even a picture of them is worth money to hype what bringing them in would rack them. They had to open the doors themselves because Zeburo can't leave his post and Mike would eat them as soon as they separated. Also obligatory explanation that this stretch was majorly changed from the manga. Leorio could open the 1000 pound(or Kilo) Cabin door by himself and there wasn't goofy scenes of him complaining. They also trained 20 days to open the doors. Kurapika and Gon opened the 4 ton doors each solo and Leorio managed to open the 8 ton door solo. Anime does a bad job showing he's actually the physically strongest of the 3 of them at this point and how strong the 3 of them are supposed to be in general.
