David Davidson

Can't wait to watch this after work! I adore you, thank you for the amazing content and for being so amazing yourselves! 😊🙏

Nolan L Thomas

Fun fact ladies, the actress that plays Ellie's mother. Is her original VA in the game. Her name is Ashley Johnson

Mojira

tbh, poorly executed finale. Disappointed but overall a good season.

jojoey
>>104560474

It still gave that cliffhanger ending like in the game though?

MrUndeadNinja

Fun fact, the giraffes in this weren't CGI. At least the one they were interacting with. Was a real giraffe brought into the studio

Dirty_Oldman

There was no way for Joel to know but the cure would have worked.

David Davidson

Thank you once again for this! Loved it!

Corey Hughes

Nice job recognizing Ashley Johnson just by the voice!

Wyrx

Joel was right, there was not gonna be a cure slash vaccine and they would have done Ellie like Aemma from HOTD for no reason. And Ellie clearly has Survivor guilt and would not be in any kind of state to make a decision like that

Wyrx
>>104569315

Not really, no such things as a cure for fungi. Some nobodies Arent gonna succeed in the thing nobody in medicine has ever done, no matter what word of god tries to argue There is nothing within the show to argue otherwise, so its simply by author fiat

Dirty_Oldman
>>104569315

It wasn’t gonna make the fungus go away, just more people would be like Ellie. They weren’t gonna reverse things but it was a way to move forward.

Wyrx
>>104602460

Furthermore.. The lies however.. less justified, cant argue against that

Wyrx
>>104602719

Nothing in the story supports that, its afterthefact justifications. Literally no one in history of medicine could do it, but these randos for sure def could? Yeah ofc..

Wyrx

Great reaction btw!

Wyrx
>>104602830

Oh, I know. Thats the thing i meant.. these people playing medicine will succeed where nobody in the field ever has? Ever... Not gonna happen

Dirty_Oldman
>>104602460

There was never a case that anyone was immune before. There story doesn’t tell you it wasn’t gonna work. It also doesn’t tell you this doctor has been researching the fungus and Ellie’s case because it’s not about that.

Dirty_Oldman
>>104569315

There’s no telling how many people in that world was trying or how far they got. The thought of someone being born immune was probably a fairy tale.

Wyrx
>>104604213

Meant before everything went down and irl aswell, before the apocolypse for how many hundreds of years and with how many billions have people tried to find a cure? But, this ragtag team of non professionals find it..? With scrap equipment Nah, Ellie would have died for naught. Inborn immunity would no doubt have been a literal fairytail yes, seeing as we are basically dealing with a cargocult here. The Fireflies i mean

Wyrx
>>104603731

True and they sure jumped very veeery quick to kill the first immune person ever didnt they.. & doesnt mean vivisecting her will lead to anything. Well, considering the FFs are larpers playing at research and medicine.. And before the apocolypse nodoby ever found a cure for fungal infections for hundreds of years and with untold money in research.. Both irl and ingame, it really doesnt need to be written in black and white.. Neil Druckman can say what he wants, changes little. There is zero shot they would succeed

Dirty_Oldman
>>104602460

It doesn’t matter about other fungal infections. Not all every species of fungus has evolved to infect humans in the show. Other fungal infections are irrelevant. Now if you talk real life. I don’t know anything about what species of fungus if any someone or all humans are immune to. I don’t know which some people might be more resistant against. Ellie being immune should also be zero. Regardless of how you try to explain it. If you were to say that, I would agree. However, we accept that as part of the story.

Wyrx
>>104611177

It very much does, no cure or vaccine has EVER been found for any of them. And thats before the apocolypse, but all of a sudden the Fireflies definitely can make one? Like magic, they dont need to see if Ellies immunity is simply a fluke? Study her? Why is there a rush etc etc Just snap fingers, and these bargain bin Tony Starks can manifest a cure by sacrificing Ellie to the science gods.. Maybe https:// nypost. com/2023/03/21/drug-re..sistant-potentially-fatal-fungus-on-the-rise-across-us-hospitals-cdc/ They should try that here? What a shame the FFs Arent real Come off it, its bad forced writing. There would never be a cure of any kind from the murder of Ellie, and it would be a murder

https://slate.com/culture/2023/03/last-us-finale-hbo-season-1-vaccine-ending.html https://www.theringer.com/tv/2023/1/24/23568993/the-last-of-us-hbo-fungus-mycologists-explained Mycologist quote "There are no treatments for this,” he continues. “No preventatives, no cures. They don’t exist. It’s not even possible to make them." Guess they forgot to ask Neil, or the Fireflies.. Its straight up impossible, Fireflies might aswell have discovered that idk ingesting raw coal acts as a cure all/panacea for all the thought that went behind their vaccine

Dirty_Oldman
>>104602460

First off the doctor they had been researching the fungus. He also had been researching Ellie case. You see a bit of that in the second game. The only magic is Ellie’s immunity, which you accept. Which is probably more unbelievable. If anything like this happened with a virus or fungus there is no cure or immunity.

Wyrx
>>104612067

Same is true irl.. before apocolypse with ample resources and yet.. Do we have anything close to any type of cute? Yeah, researched Ellie all of.. maybe one microsecond. Again they jumped to murder real fast, based on nothing The thing that has never happened ie Ellie that we and them have no data on is more unbelievable than what we know for def fact is impossible? We know it cannot be done, as per the mycologist quote before. Ellie being by chance immune by random mutation or such doesnt translate to the eqvivalent of her blood has healing Powers or something Which is about the level of the research quote unquote of the doctor in question.

>>104560474

I just think the episode needed more time. Just another 10-15 mins, spread out before and after the hospital bit, to let things breathe.

Arctic_stark

Firstly, shout out to Dani for being such an excellent reactor who has played the game already. She stays quiet throughout, and only shares trivia that won't spoil the experience for Morgan and Sam. Secondly I think the show had some flaws with the Ellie operation. If there is a chemical messenger in the brain, you'd look to harvest it through the spinal fluid. Im not sure I'd be cutting open and killing the only immune person we have without months/years of other trials. But the story needs to set up that horrible choice for Joel so that's how it plays out. Lastly, Joel did what any parent would do. He comes across as strange in the end, but no decent parent is setting up their 14 year old child to be sacrificed for a cure regardless of the stakes (that's some Biblical Abraham-level sacrifice lol). And like many parents, he's making choices for his child that he believes is right but will likely drive the child away.

Dirty_Oldman
>>104602460

Ellie being immune wouldn’t work. No one else has been immune and humans haven’t really evolved much over the years. Our technology has advanced but not so much us as a race. You keep bringing up quotes but a person being born immune is miracle. It’s just a plot devices used in stories. It’s not based in any realism because it would never happen.

Mr. Smee

I would like to see a replay of the PC version of the first game and a playthrough if the second

Corey Hughes
>>104602460

@Wyrx Ellie's immunity itself contradicts the mycologist's quote. The whole point is they didn't think it was possible, but holy shit it happened. All they need to do now is reproduce it. Killing her isn't a problem to them because the mutated cordyceps they planned to remove from her brain would have survived without her. That's the source of the vaccine.

Corey Hughes
>>104569315

@Wyrx In those hundreds of years they probably never encountered anybody with natural immunity. You're willing to suspend your disbelief in the case of Ellie being the first and only immune person, but you can't suspend it enough to believe that scientists are able to reverse-engineer her immunity? You're picking and choosing what you want to believe to justify Joel murdering people.
