Hi, everyone!

I'm going to get right to the point: I'm way ahead of schedule for Victor of Tucson and Neon Dust (as far as delivering manuscripts go), but I am a little behind on Andy in the Apocalypse. I've been telling myself I can get an extra chapter done here and there, and while that's true, I'm already working every day, and I'm starting to feel it.

I started really thinking about my schedule and how I do things, and I have begun to wonder if there's a better way. Why do I work on three (four sometimes) stories at the same time? Wouldn't it make more sense to write one main book at a time, put everything I have into it, then start the next project in the queue?

How would that work? I suppose that, since I need to finish another Andy book first, I'll write a chapter for that book every day (with maybe a day or two off a week) until it's complete, then finish Victor 12, and finally complete Neon Dust 3. Sounds great--for me.

For my patrons who don't read one or more of those books, it would be less great. So, I figured I'd just sound things out with a little poll.

So here's a potential timeline:

Andy Book 2 finished by 11/1 (1.5 chapters done a day, 6 days a week)

Victor Book 12, start work on 11/2 and finish by 12/19 (1 chapter a day, 6 days a week)

Neon Dust 3, start on 12/20 and finish by 2/1 (1 chapter a day, 6 days a week, with a few days extra figured for the holidays)

So, it's kind of important to note that this has three benefits for me:

I'm adding a day off per week in this schedule. I think I need it.

I'll be able to get Andy done early, which is good for publication scheduling.

I'll be able to focus on one story at a time and, therefore, forget fewer details and save my sanity.

Now, here's the deal: it's obvious what I want to do, but I understand that I lured you folks to this Patreon by releasing certain stories on an ongoing basis. If there are many of you who really hate this idea, I will suck it up and make this work, but I WILL be changing to a schedule like this (one or two books at a time, max) when VoT and ND are wrapped up.

So, please don't be afraid to cast your honest vote. If it seems like a significant percentage of you will feel frustrated, then I'll continue as normal until these three books are complete.

Multiple responses for yes and no because it helps me to understand what you all are thinking.

I only read Victor of Tucson, I think I tried starting the cyberpunk story but just didn't hit for me. If you change it I'll try starting Andy but most likely will unsub and resub just for Victor when its out. That being said burn out sucks so do what you need.

Dorn Hetzel

I'm supporting you in hopes of eventual continuation of the series you're *not* working on at this time, so I have great patience anyway :)

Chris

My thoughts generally on these kinds of things is that the author should write what they want, when they want. Keeps authors stress down and prevents burnout.

OpOcJu

Victor roped me in but Andy has caught my eye. ND on the other hand hasn’t done it for me.

OpOcJu

Andy is lit trust

CallMeTee

I voted "No", but only because I'll probably drop the Patreon until Victor starts up again, and then drop again after it finishes. I figured a data point is helpful, even though I agree 100% with your reasoning. You should make the changes to maintain your health and figure out a sustainable schedule. I might give Andy a shot, but Neon Dreams didn't capture me when I attempted it last. So, if Andy doesn't grab me, I'm only really sticking around for VoT. No matter how the schedule changes, I hope you're able to find the sweet spot for your writing. I never really understood how the hell you could write so many different projects at once. It's impressive AF that you managed it as long as you did.

My thoughts are Victor caught my attention and brought me all the way here after I couldn't wait for Audible. My plan is once I'm done reading VoT then I'll read through Andy. My attention span just isn't enough to jump between stories. That being said, I'll stay subbed either way to support an author that I enjoy!

crazyray

As much as i want to read more from what i like, its more important authors stay healthy, physycal as wel as mental.

Moosh7

I read all your stories, so this isn't an issue for me. I'm a little worried for your subs though for periods where you focus on cyberpunk since you've told us it's not selling well. You might consider a plan that goes: Andy on its own until Book 2 done then mostly VoT with the occasional ND for your cyberpunk fans (of which I'm one). Basically maybe instead of 1 at a time you could try... 1.5.

D

This seems to work for WTTM and I am happy with that.

Reno

Is there a "YES, it's your mental health and sanity on the line but I'll probably unsubscribe/downgrade until the story I'm interested is on the schedule"? Because.. I'm already getting lots of emails every single day from Patreon. And I'll still follow you to know when Victor is coming back. And while I'm not pressuring you to do anything and I'll happily read whenever you release, you probably want money. And this idea might get overly complicated for you, but I believe HonourRae has a system where each story has its own tiers. It's potentially not applicable here because I don't know how combinations work, but it's something you can discuss with her if it ever becomes applicable.

Reno

I'm not voting because I can't in good conscience say "NO".

Reno

Technically I can pick a lower tier and pay for an upper tier.. that solves the spam problem. But I dunno if I'll remain subscribed when Victor is done.

Reno

It's still a "YES but" from me.

Delibird

Huh, guess I'm in the minority here who's only subbed for neon dust. Honestly, I don't hate the idea at all, my personal preference leans towards authors doing whatever they need to be more comfortable. Nevertheless, I still voted the "I'm going to leave" option because from a pure practical standpoint, if I'm going to have to wait 2 or 3 months for neon dust, I might as well make that wait on royal road. To me, this change would turn this patreon from an ongoing value proposition to something more like a revolving book store I purchase from every few months. More power to you either way though

Stephen Iken

I feel I need to explain a little more. I only read the Neon Dust series atm (loving it, btw, great job). That's not to say I might not pick up on future series, but at the moment, if you went to the linear schedule I would probably cancel my sub for the other series, and than pick it up when you were working on ND. I can't blame you for wanting to adjust your schedule, I can't imagine it's easy working on multiple series at the same time.

Disclancer

Is book 12 the last Victor book does anyone know? The proposed schedule looks good to me, I'm just abit mixed up as to where we are with Victor.

Michael Junker

I was going to write up a whole thing about how I'd really prefer to finish Victor first and then move onto some of the other series that I'm waiting for a good bingeable amount to start up, but then I did some math and I think an important point that's getting missed is that under the new schedule VoT bascially finishes up at about the same time as the current schedule. That makes me pretty indifferent.

Michael Junker

I just want to add, that I really appreciate just how reliable your patreon has been. I'm following a handful of authors and none of them are anywhere near as good as about consistently publishing. I've been very happy to reap the benefits of a 7 day a week schedule, but have always recognized that there's no way it could be a permanent thing, and have always viewed it as a temporary bonus.

Superposhposh

Only read neon dust, so will resub whenever you work on that

Daniel

While I read Andy, I'm subbed for Victor, and it just doesn't make sense for me to continue the sub if there's no new VoT. That said, I think you should absolutely do the schedule as best suits you.

Knightfire

I started because of Victor and I’ve grown to really like Andy. ND. Is not my favorite and if that’s the main book being published I would at least reduce my commitment

Tshern

I'll give it a go, I dropped another story recently so have a spot for it.

Devin

I think you missed a choice of "Yes, change the schedule - but I'll probably pause and resume membership if a series I'm interested in isn't being published"

maximum0428

I read all your stories no problem and I'll continue to follow you no matter how your schedule changes! I'll be sad that the other ones go on pause while you focus on another but I'll be happy at the same time to get more of the one you're focusing on? Weird mix, but it fits in my brain lol Regardless though, I'm up for whatever's better for you and I would like for you to not burn out, potentially risking your health, and stopping entirely! So if this is something that must be done, then by all means go ahead! I'll be here regardless and I'll read every fuckin syllable you put out 😁

Johnny

Victor a chapter a day? Yes please!

nooneknows777

Do what is best for YOU everythingelse is secondary . if anyone wants to complain they can just suck it up. I agree that not splitting your focus will be better overall for you and your content. Take care of youreself first and everything else will follow.

Timothy Calkins

I honestly haven't read either ND or Andy? (As the other comments have referred to them) my favorite is cyberdreams. Hoping to see more. I sub for the hope that Juliette will continue her story.

Will Potter

Ok I am going to be honest and considerate. I appreciate your work and you should take care of yourself. I came for VOT if you pause it I will have to pause this and comeback when you start to finish VOT. I read VOT and I want to like Andy it seems like a great idea I like many things about how you built him and I like some of his no nonsense character. But other parts of the story are lacking. One of my issues is what kind of story is it? Another issue is that nothing really happens and nothing is explained. Why is he still at level one in the second book. Why have his stats been stuck. There is no nemesis, no love interest, no team, no tutor, no background for Andy or any other characters. Compare this to Victor, you made him a real person from the first book. You gave him a way to learn, and you give him clear problems to solve and overcome. You introduced important characters and you took him places. Your world building is insane I know you are able you have proved it. I appreciate you are doing something different with Andy I am not saying redo VOT. You are an excellent writer and I admire your out put no matter what you choose I will forever be a fan because of the years of enjoyment you have brought to so many.

maximum0428

Yeah I'm pretty sure they mentioned that it's the last in the series some time ago? I'd have to go back and check to be sure but I'm fairly certain of it

Brandon Lydick

Fair respect on pausing while the book you want to read isn't coming out, But a lot of things you mention Andy of Apocalypse not having *are* there and it confuses me why you think they aren't: the stat limits are explained as natural limits of the body, there is most certainly a quite obvious love interest, he doesn't specifically have a team so to speak but he does have an entire community we've been slowly learning more and more about, and the background for Andy and a few others has in fact come up several times. As for his level being 1, that's because your looking at the wrong numbers. Power seems to be in how many Improvement Points you can get not the totality of your level. Andy had an opportunity to scrap his old classes for a singular potentially better one, sure his level reset but that's actually for the better because it means more chances to get more Improvement Points.

Will Potter

Firstly, thanks for the response. I certainly understand what you are saying and see those things as well. Perhaps, we just have different tastes. It seems like AA is a little bit of a lot of things but not a lot of anything. You said a key word slowly I think the pace is just to slow for me. What do we know about Andy? He dropped out, his mom is in another place and maybe a few details, is there anything memorable or outstanding? Compare this to Victor, parents died, shunned by family, mixed heritage, loved by grandmother, wrestler teaches him lessons, anger issues even how he talks is interesting too me at least. Let's talk about obstacles victor is kidnapped. He's forced to be a pit fighter on an alien world. Andy walks around the neighborhood and fights mostly wildlife and goes back to his trailer park. And if Andy is not meant to have a big adventure that's fine. Let's see some work at the trailer park some interpersonal friction, something. In the first book we met the leader of the opposition once. As far as love interests he and Lucy are lightly flirting by book two. Why is the system so lacking in information? I don't hate the concept I read book one I particularly like the spear angle and the book started great, Andy liberating the trailer park and killing monsters. I will be fine with a flat character if you give some high octane action. I will be fine with slice of life if you include some good drama, I will be fine with base building if you build a base. But you have to pick one, at least for me to latch on.

HellSent

I'm just here to support your work. Cyber Dreams got me through some Interesting times. The way I look at it, you take care of yourself and you can keep writing longer. Sprint vs marathon thing. I honestly prefer to start reading things when they are done. So I can read as much as I want when I want. Imo, you do what's right for you, kick out that quality we all love and it "should" all work out

Exaiter

Do whatever makes it better for you. The books will come in due time.

nick1689

So in my case, I’m just here for Andy. Which means if you’re not releasing chapters for it, I’m not going to be subscribed, and only be a paid subscriber when you do - but if that means extra chapters per week when you are writing Andy, I’ll be more happy probably. Not sure if this helps, but I imagine my situation may be common for a few people (and it doesn’t really fit within the poll options). I would say though: just do what you want, if you’re getting burnt out you need to change the situation so it’s doable for you.
