I played around a bit more with the mole creatures! I'm going to try again next week with two pages at once, we'll see how it goes...

Process Images

Original page! I learned the vertical text/overlapping word balloons for screams and shouts don't work as well in a Western format, so I had to change that, and a few other things...

Line art and spot blacking!

Silhouettes!

Flat colors!

Shadows! Did not take as long as it normally does for some reason.

Gradations and highlights!

Patterns and textures, line effects, etc. I changed the monster drool to green (it was a normal slobber color on the previous page) and added a fleshy texture to their skin. I need to go back to all previous pages and add this skin texture. After I took this screenshot, I noticed a really obvious, silly mistake.

Added dialogue and sound effects! I was looking at this page and went "Wait, why is Arma's fist punching through the bottom of the monster's mouth?" It was the way it was in the original black and white version but it looked way more obvious and terrible in color. Not sure how I made it this far without noticing it did not look like the monster was biting her. I'm a hack/fraud, what can I say.
