First commission of the year is down! Took me about a week to do since I don't work on weekends and I only work while my kid is at daycare. I was asked to draw a lovely elf-like character who had a tragic childhood and is currently covered in scars head to toe. The commissioner was great-- told me exactly what they wanted with source images, etc.

Anyway, here are some of the steps I took. I'm starting my next commission tomorrow, so enjoy!

Did a rough sketch with color since the commission asked for a specific background.

Did a less rough sketch of the character in a different pose right after doing the color roughs above.

Did the final under drawing, went to the inking stage after this.

Did the inks and flat colors all at once to save some time. Her left hand looks bland because I knew it was going to be hidden behind a fence post.

More or less finished the colors but did not add all of the dress embroidery yet.

Drew the background and added flat colors for that. Her hand is now behind the fence, like I said! haha

I was starting to go overboard on the flowers, as my husband pointed out, so I did not do shading and highlights and such on them like I did on the girl. I also added more scars to her at some point.

Final image! I won't be able to post this publicly until March though, as the commissioner requested since this is gift art. I hope you liked it!
