It's here!!! I am so, so sorry about the delay to this video, if you follow my twitter or discord you'll know i've had a nightmare with youtube clearing this video for some reason (took 5 hours?!) It should have been up this morning, but alas, youtube hates me apparently? But hopefully the wait is worth it. This video is very personal to me in reagards to the topics in the video

Anyways! In this video I discuss/show the plethora of visual metaphors Yuhki Kamatani applies in all of their works, but mostly notably the manga Our Dreams at Dusk. I put a lot of effort into this video due to how personal this manga is to me, so I hope you enjoy!

No matter the manga, Yuhki Kamatani's work is able to  depict heart-wrenching scenarios in such raw moments without relying on text. It's a skill that makes their work stand out to me very often. It's creatively utilised in a stylised way that makes their work distinctive

TW: Homophobia/transphobia/suicide

Due to the nature of Our Dreams' story, there are a few panels throughout the video that do contain offensive slurs & potential triggering imagery. This decision wasn't made lightly and was kept in to keep the harsh realities this manga imposes.

If you wish to view it with subtitles, it'll have to be a little later when i've published it live for everyone (in a few hours, as the subtitles take forever to time etc)

Let me know what you think! And if you're new to this manga, let me know if this peaked your interest!

Thank you guys for all your support, it means so much to me!

Our Dreams at Dusk - The Use of Visual Metaphors

Yuhki Kamatani is one of my favourite mangaka. Their work utilises the ideology of applying visual metaphors in a way of creating visceral pages of art without relying on text spelling out emotions to the reader. Much like Witch Hat Atelier, Our Dreams at Dusk is another manga that is very special to me, and in ways, is very unique in its visual illustrations. Metaphors aren’t new to manga, but Kamatani most definitely produces imagery that is so succinct in translating a word, a feeling, a depiction into imagery alone - that their work continues to be a stand out to me in the drawing world. I apologise for the late-ness of the video, but given it’s all animated manga pages, not to mention covering topics that are quite raw to me in general, it was certainly a big task. Hopefully the video makes up for the time it took to make, and I look forward to working on even more projects for you guys! 🔹 WHERE TO BUY🔹 👉 If you want to buy the manga, the links below are affiliate links which means if you buy something through the link (no extra cost to you!)
