Jill competes in a twisted beauty pageant while her father tries to uncover the truth about the island…

30 panels! Phew! And I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this episode! Especially on John Larson, Jill's dad... The next section will be the competition itself, and I'm both excited and terrified to write it.

As always, thank you for reading, and for your support! 💕

Emory, this is good, real good. There are two cliffhangers in this part. First, Josie is cryptic, as if something might happen to her. Second, dad finding out the truth. The look on his face at the end, if he had a gun, maybe he's the one who shot Mr. Xu for revenge. Saying, Jill is his masterpiece gives dad a target to kill.

OMG the pace is slowing down... it is like 24h tv series but worse hahaha... 30 pages now means 30 seconds in the story... will write more later... need to go to work now ❣️

This chapter is great. I like how Mr. Larson came to terms with past actions on how he treated his family especially , Jack/Jill while talking with Soilidad. When he was watching Jill, Soilidad told him everything that actually happened to Jack/Jill. It looks like he wants to beat up Xu so badly for what he his done to his son/daughter. Jill looks beautiful than ever. I got a bad feeling about this in the next chapter.

The action begins. I like how you managed to combine introspection with building tension. You've left us with another cliffhanger you evil person! LOL! Jack & Jill is still an amazing story.

Ashleigh Christina

Omg! What if the challenges are sexual? Xu would do that since Jill’s father is in the audience. Xu’s last attempt to break Jill. By having her father watch her pleasure a man.

Bloody hell. What with this, Taylor Made, year 1 of Hulderotica, Dorley book 4 and How To Fly Book 2 all finishing at roughly the same time, I'm not sure my heart can take the strain. Such a problem, five absolutely top notch trans stories all making me excited and worried about their climax. If only I had that problem on a regular basis. Larson's heartfelt explanation to Soledad and her 'coming out' (Sort of) where fantastic. The emotion in the artwork mirroring and enhancing the text was wonderful and his anger at everyone around him - even though he hasn't quite worked out exactly what is going on, although Xu's speech might have clued him in. My guess is that Xu had never intended to let Jill go free and also planned on taking her dad. There's no way he would have let a 'civilian' on the island otherwise. And you leave us with an evil cliffhanger. It feels like the next chapter is when the storm is really going to break and we're going to start to see the events leading up to the things we saw in the early chapters. I'm interested in whether you're a 'pantser' or a 'plotter'. Did you have a clear plan laid out for the story (and, if so, how far back did it go?) or did you have some Plot Points you know you wanted to hit and just went for it? The latter is how I work which meant that Ghostkin 2 departed quite a bit from my original rough outline. When this is all over, I'd be fascinated to see your original plan for the story.

God oh god, I can’t wait for a snapshot with ridiculously cunty findomme Liza and her squealing pay piggies.

Brava!!! Once again brilliance in art work and writing. But I agree with Maggie and Kris, things are slowing down as tension is building up. We have had three chapters cover maybe an hour. All for good reason and offering detail, background, supposition and color. But the tensions and anticipation are getting so high it feels like the damn will burst when the action finally starts.

Scrolling back through some past episodes and found Phase 9 Part 16. The update on Jackson's story. It looked like Jackson was still under Xu's control but at another location. It also mentioned a loss of contact with the Island. The presumption is that that was in sync with the current time, the Contest and the disruption that breaks out. Will we be seeing a continuation of Jackson's story? And if so will it be in J&J or Half Sisters? Part 16 seemed like it was setting Jackson up for at least a little more story. Just curious when and where it might fit in.

What's up with Hannah and Liam? Liam is not off in how Hannah is sounding like a Stepford Wife. I know we got some of Hannah's story, but I feel like there is quite a bit more that got her to this stage of behavior. Can't tell if it is total denial or surrender, but she is the 180 from Liam who is total resistance and she is total acceptance, almost to the point of gratitude. And while Liam claims to be resisting, his thoughts on stage about now knowing how to make rich men beg sounds like we have the makings of a stripper, dominatrix, or Beverly Hills Madam with a penchant for blackmail in his future. An eventual reluctant acceptance that the physical can't be undone, but a continued burning anger that turns into a quest for vengeance and the use of the body created by his captor as the weapon for inflicting that vengeance against all powerful men that hold no restraint on their abuse of their power, money and position.

An emotional episode and one of the best so far!

You thinking high end dominatrix for the billionaire boys club level wealthy?

Please excuse the following long-winded ramblings that I feel compelled to provide on this amazingly written episode in this amazing and insightful story. This episode seems to provide the context to having a deeper understanding into Jack and where he was at prior to being captured and his forced feminisation by ‘second dawn.’ A strong theme I have noticed in this story Emory (and within others), is around the potential for great personal growth within the context of adversity and trauma. With Jack we witness a metamorphosis not only physically but also psychological growth as he becomes Jill. Similarly other characters in this story, Holly, Maria, Josie and others we witness their growth in the paradoxical experience of personal growth within the context of the discomfort, pain and suffering they have undergone. This episode also highlights parallels between both Jill and her dad. Both Jack/Jill and John Lawson tried to deal with their grief (loss of mother and wife) following the death of Monica Lawson through avoidance and distracted themselves from the pain of grief and the reality of their loss. Jack becoming a ‘drop out’ surfer’ and living a very superficial life, and John Lawson by disconnecting from his feelings and detaching emotionally from those he loved and becoming absorbed in his work. Whilst avoidance and distraction may work in the short term as a coping strategy, it does not ultimately hep process grief and loss. The underlying invaluable message and lesson John Lawson appears to be reflecting on in this episode is his realisation around how you cannot ‘go over,’ ‘go under’ or ‘go around grief,’ you have to go ‘through it.’ This developing insight seems to have in turn lead him to him having the courage to grieve, to love again and reconnect with his children, his compassion and ultimately what is important in life. important in life. In a similar way in this episode, we witness and further insights into Jill are uncovered in relation to her increasing awareness and reconnection with her resilience, compassion for others as her own self compassion. The close-up visuals images of John Larson’s facial expressions are incredible, particularly when they are along-side his eloquent words of compassion not only about his children but also to Soledad. His skills as a former District Attorney specialising in sexual assault certainly came to the fore as he gently got Soledad to trust him and reveal the truth about ‘the island.’ I loved seeing the great compassion he had for Soledad, in particular I just loved the image of the reassuring protective hug he gave Soledad, letting her know that she was heard and that he was there for her. Other subtle messages I loved was the close-up visuals of John Larson’s mouthing to Jill, “I love you.” This was so important for Jill to know to attend to the fears and uncertainties she was feelings about herself, providing the reassurance to her around knowing her dad was there for her and loved her unconditionally. Whilst there is so much more that could be commented about in this episode, I will restrict myself to the areas I have focussed on in my feedback. Of course, Emory, as usual you leave us with a knife’s edge with a cliff hanger. You have left us all pondering the safety of the many of the characters you have created that we all have become so invested in. I can’t wait for the next episode. Thanks again for a magnificent episode.

Jade Diaz

Absolutely that would so much fun to read

Ughhh, the suspeeense!! I can’t wait to see what happens next! The atmosphere is so perfectly built, Emory! I’m loving it and totally immersed!

Phoebe Nocturne

John has very quickly become a fascinating character! We didn't have the greatest impression of him way back, when all we had was Jack's tension and resentment towards him to go on. Getting a broader view over time through Emily and then finally seeing the man himself has been very interesting, and a reminder that there were probably good parts about his relationship with Jack once too. He seems like a really decent guy overall, and it's understandable how maybe he wasn't in the best place to deal with things back when his wife died. Seeing some of her in Jill probably helped feed into the heightened emotions of this moment! From realizing his son is alive, as his daughter now, and then the piecing together of (most of) the puzzle of this place with Soledad... it's no wonder he's enraged at Xu. And knowing some of where this is all headed... Well, we'll see when the puzzle pieces come together for us! Lots of concerning potential foreshadowing for a lot of these characters! (Looking at you too, Josie! You have a kid to go back to after this!) P.S. - Liam sure is finding an interesting way to cope... I guess exploiting the body "Liza's" been given for "her" own benefit is some form of acceptance/adaptation? Might be on to something with Stepford Hannah, too... I wonder if we've seen ANY of her genuine feelings on this whole situation since we met her...

Tomoa

Agreed. I think Liam’s last shred of restraint and goal of returning to his old life evaporated when he walked on stage. O-Ren Ishii style vengeance in his future??

SingularCurve

...all eyes are Jack... dun dun DUNNNN!!!

Emory Ahlberg

Hehe. I think it's interesting that Josie is one of the few people who can call her "Jack" and (at least to me) it doesn't come off as insulting...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Phoebe! Yeah, that is the tragedy of John Larson. He was never a villain... he was a man paralyzed by grief who forgot how to function as a father. Seeing Jill alive didn't just shock him, it has restarted his heart. His rage at Xu is the first honest, uncomplicated emotion he has felt in four years. It’s pure, protective fury, and it’s dangerous. Also, I'm already kind of in love with Liam's coping mechanism. He calls it exploitation, but it's basically weaponizing his own objectification. He’s trying to seize power in the only arena they’ve left him. As for Hannah... well, sometimes the most flawless mask hides the deepest fractures. We haven't seen the real person underneath yet! If she's even still in there...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Ella! Building that atmosphere is my favorite part. I wanted you to feel the air getting thin right before the storm breaks!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Thomas! Yep... the fuse is lit for sure!

Emory Ahlberg

Gemma, never apologize for "ramblings" when they are this insightful! Grief is an interesting theme here. Jack ran to the ocean to drown his pain, and John buried himself in his office to ignore his. They were both running from the same ghost. That scene with Soledad showed us the man John used to be... the protector, the seeker of justice... before the grief calcified him. He needed to save Soledad to prove to himself he could still save anyone.... including his daughter. And you're right about the concept of "post-traumatic growth." It’s not about erasing the damage, really, but about what grows in the cracks. Jill didn’t just survive... she evolved. John is finally doing the same.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Crystal! I poured a lot into this one. Sometimes the emotional beats hit harder than the action (even sexy action) ever could.

Emory Ahlberg

Diana, I love your read on the dichotomy between Hannah and Liam is perfect. Hannah is terrifying because her adaptation looks like serenity, but it’s actually the silence of a soul that has completely flatlined. She's the "perfect" product because there is no resistance left to cause friction. Liam, on the other hand, might have just had a massive epiphany on that stage... Tomoa, I love the O-Ren Ishii comparison. Liam realized that if they are going to force him to be a weapon of desire, he is going to point that weapon right back at them!

Emory Ahlberg

Great memory, Diana! Yes, Phase 9 Part 16 was a flash-forward. The "loss of contact" mentioned in Janice’s update is the direct result of the chaos about to erupt at the Coming Out dinner. Jackson’s timeline is running parallel to this (and Half Sisters), and the fallout from the island is going to ripple out to where she is. Her story is definitely far from over.... snapshot in her future for sure! (sorry for the late replies... trying to catch up after being buried)

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Diana! I knew that slowing down was a risk, but I needed to tighten the screws one last time....

Emory Ahlberg

Jade, I love where your head is at... as always! I think Liam is realizing that their hunger makes them weak, and his hatred makes him strong.

Emory Ahlberg

I swear that I did not intend for all of these stories hitting their climax at once - and Homecoming, as well! You're right about John Larson. That scene with Soledad was his awakening... he needed to see the machinery of the island up close to understand the true threat to his daughter. Xu definitely views people as assets or liabilities, never as guests. John Larson was a chess piece from the moment he stepped on that boat. But in who's game? 🤔 To answer your question: I am a "plantser." I have a strong destination in mind... I knew about the contest, her father's arrival, and the final confrontation from the very start.... but the route often changes. Characters like Josie or Liam demand more space than I originally allotted, and I have to follow them. That organic growth is the magic and (for me) the fun! I look forward to sharing the original outline someday!

Emory Ahlberg

Perfect metaphor. We have Jill, Josie, Emily, John, Holly, and Liam all holding matches near that powder keg. The explosion is inevitable. The only mystery is who is standing closest to the blast zone when it goes off! 😬

Emory Ahlberg

That is a terrifying thought and very possible. Second Dawn delights in shame and exposure!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Kris! LOL - I'm afraid I must wear the badge of "evil cliffhanger person" with honor! I really believe the introspection was needed to load the gun. Now we get to pull the trigger. The action hits harder when you know exactly what is happening inside their heads.... 💕 (I hope)

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Tiki! I think John's realization is the emotional anchor of this phase. Soledad finally gave him the context to see the truth. That rage you see isn't just about protection but guilt.

Emory Ahlberg

LOL - that's my fault because I originally forgot to put them there. Even I make mistakes sometimes. 😉 Thank you, Nolwenn!

Emory Ahlberg

We're zooming in on the micro-seconds because this is the moment everything pivots. I wanted you to live in that suffocating tension right alongside Jill. Every glance, every silent word, carries the weight of a bomb about to go off! But things are about to speed up again...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Andre! And yeah, I think you pinpointed the exact moment the switch flipped. Xu calling Jill his "masterpiece" was an arrogant admission of guilt. He claimed ownership of John's child! Nolwenn... You are terrible! 😂 But honestly, in that hallway, Soledad became the first person John successfully protected in years. Trauma bonds people fast. He "adopted" her cause because saving her was the practice run for hopefully saving Jill.
