Chapter 4 of Liberation is here! A collaboration between me and the amazing Zoe Storm - she's doing the (amazing) writing, and I'm creating the art. We have 15 pages this time, and 7 images!

In Chapter 4, Hans and his companions settle into their new life at Castle Salgen. But safety isn't always what it seems. The Archduke has plans of his own, and by the end of this chapter, you'll understand just how far he's willing to go.

This story explores power, identity, and survival in a medieval world that's similar to our own - but not quite. It continues to be so much fun working with Zoe on this project!

Oh Ulrich.... i think you'll regret what you're planning to do... i think you're... fucked... only a matter of time when delicate hands will slit your throat from behind... 😁

Ellen Mellor

And so it begins... Queen Hannah is going to be amazing.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ellen! 💖 That name has a nice ring to it...

Love the twists and turns in this story. My anticipation is palpable waiting to see the changes Hans undergoes when he takes this ‘draft.’ Wondering what other psychological changes he may experience as he becomes more feminised. The new enforced status he may be forced to adhere to aligned with his new physical form. Love the intrigue and the slippers characters and doubling crossing. Not knowing who you can trust and the different hidden agendas of various characters in the story. Hans, is so honourable and at the same time naive, a victim of the old enemies his father made who are now seeking power and their revenge. Great story Zoe. Beautiful very life like images Emory. It is like watching a movie. I am so looking forward to seeing the images of the feminised Hans you create for this epic tale.

Well, as Liberation is the work of Zoe Storm and Emory Ahlberg, it would have been astonishing (and disappointing) if nobody was feminised. After the first couple of chapters, I suspected that it would be Hans, but I wasn't 100% certain. After Chapter Three, I knew it would be Hans, but I didn't know how. Now we know how, but the most interesting part remains, the process of Hans blossoming into a girl. I wonder about the title. What is the liberation? The liberation of the kingdom, or liberation from masculinity? Both, possibly. I have read several Zoe Storm books and, if I were to find fault with them, it would be that they are too nice. In the last Zoe Storm novel I read there was only one unpleasant character, a bigoted uncle, and he seemed easily sidestepped. This is quite unlike that, with several unpleasant characters, and some of them are going to be a challenge to thwart. And there is, if not forced feminisation, non-consensual feminisation, which is quite a departure from any Zoe Storm work that I've previously read. Red meat, not a vegan literary diet! Wow!

Great storytelling, Zoe. This really has epic overtones and structure in addition to the well honed intimate relationships fundamental to such tales, with the right comradeship of Hans and his friends at the fulcrum. And it seems as if everyone is conspiring against Hans, to deprive him of his inheritance, whether by murder, or as we learn in this episode, by forced transition. It’s all nicely poised.

Further comments: I love the beginning of this chapter Zoe. The insights you provide around some of the subtle shifts Hans has already noticed and identified he is experiencing with his friends Will and Bert since his enforced orchiectomy. That sense that Hans has identified around and shift in their perceptions of him. How he is no longer seen as being like them, and accompanying loss of the ‘familiarity they shared in their friendship,’ and how they now relate to him. The emerging potential reality that they already view him differently from them as men with the suggested accompanying loss of the brotherhood connection they previously shared. Or maybe I am just reading too much into these Hans internal wonderings?

Emory Ahlberg

You are totally spot on, Gemma! Honestly, you aren't reading too much into it at all. Poor Hans is feeling so isolated right now, and he definitely senses that weird, awkward distance Will and Bert are putting up. It breaks his heart a little bit! It’s like the ultimate test for their friendship, and he's just really missing that easy, everyday brotherhood they used to have before everything got so complicated.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Robert! Zoe is doing an amazing job with the strory. Yeah, poor Hans really can't catch a break, can he? It seriously feels like the entire world is out to get him right now. Uncle Ulrich is just so insanely sneaky for coming up with that forced transition plot right under everyone's noses! Just when you think Hans is finally safe, another trap gets set.

Emory Ahlberg

Haha, I love the "red meat" comparison, Pet! Yep - something a little darker and more intense. And as for the real meaning behind the title "Liberation"... well, I guess you'll just have to wait and see exactly what kind of freedom we're talking about! 😉

Emory Ahlberg

So glad you're enjoying all the backstabbing and drama, Gemma! Hans is honestly just too naive. He has absolutely no clue about all the scheming happening right behind his back.

Robertlouis

And despite our sympathy for Hans, every single one of your readers can’t wait to meet Hannah! 🤣
