Sandy and Mrs. Ferris enjoy a little competition and a bit of mother-daughter talk.

Meanwhile, Nikki's having a rough day. But she went to the stadium with such good intentions! Help Ron get back on the team. Maybe flex some football knowledge. Feel useful for once. Easy.

Instead, she got: a jealous boyfriend situation she doesn't even know about, a goth cheerleader who may or may not be trying to seduce her (she definitely is), and a front-row seat to her own emotional collapse.

Oh, now she doesn't have a ride home. But this is fine. Everything is fine. 🔥

As always, thank you so much for your support! 💕

OMFG... NIKKI... turn right and beg for some water at that gas station NOW!!!

I'm so glad you said everything is fine or I might be concerned about now

I trust Josh. Mrs Ferris certainly likes stirring the pot! Poor Nikki. I’m so glad Craig drove off before Nikki’s mad rant led to her revealing more. Image 14 is so hard to see. Nikkis pain, her sadness. Nikki’s turning her emotional pain of deep sadness and at her most vulnerable, to connecting more wth what she would see as more familiar and more manly emotion of anger. It was also interesting to hear Nikki’s attempts to minimise and dismiss the burgeoning new feeling that have been arising in her. Her need here to reassert her determination and desire that she will (wants too) reclaim her masculinity. The last few images reveals how Nikki underestimated the enormity of the impact of changes she has undergone. You certainly have left the door open as to what could happen next. She is a female, alone and vulnerable, ‘something she would not be used to and that potentially end very bad for her. Alternatively and hopefully she could also encounter and experience being tge damsel in distress being saved by her knight/ ‘knightress’ in shining armour.

Cripes! That last panel! Why didn't the silly girl ask Evie for a ride? I'm sure that Evie would have obliged, and it might have been fun. As it is... well, we'll have to wait for episode 76 to find out how much everything is not fine. It's a bit life-and-death-ish, and it overshadows the Sandy/Mrs Ferris/Josh situation. (I think it's the first we've heard of Josh returning to Boston, isn't it? Or have I forgotten something?) Still, things are hotting up on the Sandy end of the half sisters pairing, although not as literally hot as on the Nikki end. One comfort is that Nikki has to survive this, or it would be half sister in the singular. That's not going to happen. Right? Everything is totally fine. Relax, Pet. Everything is totally and absolutely fine. Would Emory lie about that?

Kris Greg

It's a good thing that this collapse isn't happening on an isolated stretch of road or she'd be dead! Nikki's current psychological break should come as no surprise after the last episode. Sandy is one of your most well adjusted characters, & I love her.

Alex Cioranic-Alex From the Tri-Cities

Nikki, what are you doing?? You should've asked Evie for a ride...or my fictional Xuniverse character Miss Vienna Della Neri, 18, pregnant and Platinum Star. An air-conditioned Cadillac Allante would do you so good. Hutchinson @ Platinum Star dinner: "And here's the child I should've had. String, beautiful and utterly ruthless." ME: Leave her alone, Hutchinson. HUTCHINSON.Hutch!!!!HUTCH!!!!!HHHHUUUUTTTCCCCHHHH!!!

Ellen Mellor

Well, that's slightly terrifying. Nikki's rage out, her refusal to see the danger she's in and, most of all, the first signs that she may be on the way to something drastic. Or rather, something intentionally drastic rather then the unintentional action of walking miles in body temperature heat without protection or water. Meanwhile, Sandy is looking incredibly cute as she prepares for her utter humiliation. Her terror as the ball comes rocketing towards her was hilarious. Interestingly, Mrs Ferris chose to focus on Josh's potential temptations and failed to mention how Sandy would be surrounded by lots of pretty young undergrads of all genders. I suspect that she's going to have a far harder time remaining true to her love than he is. Now, get Evie after Nikki's ass pronto with a nice air-conditioned car and a bottle of water!

Crewchick

Oh Nikki dear, you ain't handling shit! And now you have given yourself heat exhaustion that may be on the verge of becoming heat stroke. Dear, you can't afford any medical emergencies. Especially one's that result in your being rushed by EMS to the hospital. Not in Texas, and not with what your new driver's license says and with what is between your legs. Hutchinson may have bought the local sheriff and the DMV office, or at least a few of the right people there, but can he buy every EMS first responder and every hospital worker who encounters Nikki and learns about her plumbing? And if you do collapse with heat stroke, will anyone find you in time passed out alongside the road, or worse in the road where you might be found by their front tires first, if they are driving fast along a quiet country road they have driven thousands of times and think they can drive blindfolded or half drunk, which they could be too? Why didn't you at least stop at the Gas & Go to buy a cold drink and get in the shade for a little bit to let your core temperature lower a little? And what was with going off on Craig (85) like that? Not cool! Not smart. Yeah, I know, he is now wearing your number. Yes, he is a second rate player who thinks too highly of his own skills. He may have even been a total jerk before your kidnapping, and likely still is. And the offer of the ride did have a creepy "Eddie Hascal" vibe to it. Like he was using it to pump Nicki for dirt on Zach, or to make a move on Nikki, knowing she is Zach's girlfriend. Total dick move power play. But going off about Clinic 12? Honey you are NOT ready for prime time and you NEED serious help. More and more I am surprised Hutchinson does not have a 24/7 babysitter on Nikki. Someone to advise her on how to be the woman Hutchinson expects her to be. Someone to report back to him on Nikki's activities. And someone to intervene and defuse situations like the encounter with Craig so they don't result in Nikki outing herself or causing social backlash that would hurt rather than help Zach's reputation. Hutchinson's plan to make Nikki Zach's new love interest and beard, is really starting to look very Trumpish, all bravado and no realistic strategy other than Hutchinson's own force of will and vast wealth to try and make it work, like forcing a square peg into a round hole. Now Sandy, what a sweet mother-daughter scene. Cute tennis outfits! Loved Sandy's breif bravado about paying, followed by the fear in Sandy's face as the ball comes smashing towards her. The relationship with Mrs. F is definitely evolving and maturing in what seems to be a relatively healthy way. Especially seeing how unhealthy the start was. Though Mrs. F is sending mixed messages about Josh? Intentional? First (two episodes ago or so) she is suggesting Josh being in Texas may be stifling on Sandy. Now she says Josh going back to Boston and being so far may give him opportunity to stray. And why does Josh have to give up his law school dreams in Texas to go back and work as a paralegal in Boston? There are a lot of great law schools in and around Boston. Harvard, Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern, Suffolk Law School, New England School of Law, UMASS Dartmouth, just to name a few. Harvard may be a little ambitious for Josh. But Mrs. F's money and connections could probably get him into Suffolk Law, even on short notice, and maybe even with a scholarship, though, Mrs. F may have to fund or endow it herself. But hey, tax write-off, and investing in a future son-in-law to ensure he has the education and skills to help her daughter run the family businesses and manage the family fortune is probably a wise decision. Or he could even work and go to school at night and be finished in 4 years instead of 3, but be done in the same amount of time as Sandy. I am sure law school would keep Josh too busy to even think about other women. Over all Emory, a really great episode! Moving the needle, but also creating some new Nikki drama to keep us on the edge of our seats. I am already anxious to see the June calendar so I can learn when we will see the next episode of Half Sisters.

Crewchick

Just one of what may eventually be several post scripts. Nicki is in a very serious situation that could go many different ways. Bad decisions like walking all the way back home from the stadium in 98 degree Texas heat, that may actually be hotter in the sun, is a real world type bad decision many people make and suffer the consequences for. No one, especially me, wants to see Nicki harmed or suffer, but please don't cheese it out with some romance novel type trope, like Zach riding on his motorcycle to her rescue after feeling bad at how he spoke to her. Nor is Nikki, or Zach for that matter, ready for that kind of Hallmark movie kind of scene. More realistic would be someone likely driving along that road and seeing Nikki laying on the side or in the middle of the road. A stranger perhaps? A new peripheral character like a neighbor who may know Nick but does not know Nikki, and Nikki having to explain her relationship to the Palmers after asking to be taken to her Mother's house? Or possibly Mr. Travino, someone who does know Nikki (and even thought Nicky was a little girl) and would not be asking too many questions other than why did she not have more sense than to try and walk home in that heat? Or maybe even Mary Palmer, since it is the road back to their house. Nikki really, really needs her mom right now, and not just for the heat stroke. Right about now Nikki really needs a few scolding words about how stupid it was to walk home in the heat and then a very big shoulder and two open ears. Mostly just to sit, listen and be with Nikki right now. Even if it means sitting in the driveway for an hour before even getting out of the car. Of course only if Nikki is not in need of emergency medical services for heat stroke. But hey, if you really want to cheese it out, at least let Snowfall come to her rescue! Kind of like an episode of Lassie (and yes I know Lassie was dog). "Good horse"! Hi ho Snowfall, away! 😂

Nikki’s right that Craig will look hot when Clinic 12 is done

Looking forward to hearing what your dad thinks about this episode…

SYJIS

i've enjoyed this series for a long time but i think it's time for the story to move forward. For a long time, the plot revolved around the threat of Davis,clinic,12 and Zach's father.NOW THOSE THREATS SEEM TO BE FADING INTO BACKGROUND; So the question that remains is simple Where is Nikki's story going now?

Jenny S

Nikki, girl, you need HELP! It's wild to remember that it hasn't even been a full twenty-four hours since her date with Zach, that this is still very much a trauma response in full swing. She is not in a state to take care of herself, and she drives away anyone who tries to help her, which is a very bad and potentially deadly combination. If she doesn't get to the other side of this without self realization, Nikki just might be doomed. "Fuck all football players! Not Ron!" Don't mind me, just clipping this for my Nikki/Ron shipping scrapbook. :P Because of how supportive she's been of Sandy, it's easy to forget that Mrs. Ferris is an unstable man-hating manipulator. Her "worry" about Josh is some classic doubt seeding, an old tactic of moms who don't like their daughter's boyfriend. They're very chummy right now, but I do worry that there's a line Sandy could cross to get back on Ferris's bad side. Great work as always, Emory! <3

ender8343

She is a Texas native she should know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, but one of the symptoms is confusion which can make it hard for you to realize if you miss the earlier symptoms like not sweating are really dangerous when it is hot out. I guess the number of high school football players that end up suffering from heat exhaustion or heat stroke even to the point of death every summer is scarily high, and there is always a vocal minority of coaches that push back against any summer training limits.

Crewchick

I disagree. Nothing we have seen in J&J yet suggests we are anywhere close to the threat being over. Xu is wounded in the flash forward, not dead, and it is unclear if his wound is fatal. And if Xu does die or loses control of Clinic 12, it is not clear what Davis might do. Then there is Morisini and his intention to take over Clinic 12, not shut it down. So we are still far from seeing the end of Clinic 12 just yet. And for Hutchinson we have no foreshadowing. He is on the island during this operation but no reason to believe he is killed, captured or weakened as a result of the operation to rescue Jill and others. If Clinic 12 is closed or Morisini cuts him off from Toys and other "products", that does not mean he will let Nikki go. It may even make her a negotiating tool if Nikki is as much a Rosetta Stone as Jill for the algorithm and the drug/hormone therapy. Xu or Morisini might be willing to keep supplying the hormones and other things to keep Nikki's transformation going as long as they can keep getting reports and data feedback. Plus he is so rich, even if he were cut off, he could afford to pay almost any price to find the needed hormones and drugs for Nikki elsewhere. So I hardly see him in a rear-view mirror just yet for these stories. The defeat of Xu, Davis, Hutchinson, and possibly even Morisini, are where all the Xu universe are working towards. But I think Emory has a whole lot more story for us in both J&J and Half Sisters. Even though we are in the penultimate season of J&J, there is still a whole season 10 ahead yet. And if Season 10 is as long as Season 9, there is so much yet that can happen before Jill, Nikki, and all the other characters get their happy endings. I guess after Xu, Davis, Hutchinson, et al are all defeated, Emory could move on with the characters, evolve them a little more, find new villains, adversaries and obstacles, for the heros/heroines to overcome, but that tends to bleed and hollow the stories over time and take them way off course from where they began. Writing for consumption rather than telling a story. Think about the serial TV shows that have a great first season, a decent second season, but then get really stale, weird, or completely jump the shark tank in or after season 3. I would hate to see that happen to these stories. I also think Emory has too much professionalism and artistic integrity to allow that to happen to her creations. So once those villains are defeated, I think we will see a bit of a denouement as the protagonists settle into the new world and lives they have earned and won for themselves through their struggles, and then Emory will allow them to fade into the sunset, for the readers to carry on the stories in their own imaginations. Better to leave a reader wanting more than having them lose interest and just stop reading. Maybe Emory might entertain a follow-up story a few years down the road. Possibly tie up a few loose ends that were missed at the story's conclusion? Perhaps allow us a brief glimpse at life for our heros/heroines say 5 or 10 years down the road? The kind of thing that reassures us their happy ending was true, or shows some additional bumps (because life always has bumps) but that the characters are strong, well, resilient and thriving. Not a new series, but perhaps something longer than a snapshot. I say, just relax, live in the moment of the story as we read it, and allow Emory to weave her magic and take us where she wants and where she thinks the characters and their stories dictate.

Crewchick

You make a great point, and after playing football for so many years in youth and school leagues which have highly regulated rules about heat exposure for young athletes, you would think Nikki would recognize the symptoms, and likely has experienced them before when training over the summer with the team. But as you note confusion and brain fog are also symptoms that may be making it harder for her to diagnose herself. Not to mention the emotional trauma she is still going through and that the date triggered is a major way. To sound a bit like a country song, Nikki just ain't right and that's just wrong!

ender8343

I could easily see Nikki's dad being in the vocal minority of coaches.

ender8343

Nikki also doesn't like to admit her body has changed, and even for trans woman choose to transition it can be an adjustment that your temperature tolerance isn't as high anymore.

Crewchick

Emory, please don't take this the wrong way, but I got laughs out of pages 16 and 18. In 16 with the mouth open and finger pointing, it very much reminds me of the two women in the stock meme with the cat. The one with the two women in tears and pointing with some exasperated statement, accusation or question inserted in the bubble above their head, and the cat with some snarky smart ass reply. And 18, with Nikki giving Craig the double bird, all I can say is "Stay classy" Nikki! 😉 😂

Crewchick

OMG! I just had a scary thought. With Nikki doing all that sweating in white jeans, they are probably getting pretty soaked. And if they are of a lightweight denim or lightweight cotton twill, sailcloth or broadcloth, they may be getting translucent, if not down right transparent. So far we have not recently addressed the status of her pink, ahem, "device". If someone does come to her rescue who does not know her WELL, a pink phallic looking thing in her pants may be a little hard to explain. Maybe it just fell off and won't stay on at this point? Maybe there was a point before or during the date where Zach gave her the key, and that scene is being saved for a future flashback? But if it is still there and Nikki's white jeans look like she just stepped out of a pool, "Houston we may have a problem".

Alex Cioranic-Alex From the Tri-Cities

He'll think that Nikki is unconsciously trying to "Attrition" herself. You'd think Second Dawn would invest more psychological conditioning in the future wife of the son of their best customer.

Emory Ahlberg

That gas station doesn't look all that operational!

Emory Ahlberg

💕 Pet... Yeah, Nikki asking Evie or Lauren for a ride would've been the smart move. But I think she was too out of it to ask, and also probably our girl's ego got the best of her after Zach's rejection. You didn't forget anything, since Josh heading back to Boston to work for Mrs. Ferris's lawyer was just revealed during that tennis match.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Kris! Nikki is at peak stubbornness. She pushed her body way too hard trying to sweat out her emotional breakdown. You're totally right about the psychological break, since the island trauma is catching up to her fast. And yeah lol Sandy really is the most well-adjusted person in this entire universe... even if she's terrible at returning serves on the tennis court!

Emory Ahlberg

Mrs. Ferris loves stirring the pot a little on the tennis court! But I think she is genuinely concerned. She had a bad experience and doesn't want Sandy to have the wool pulled over her eyes. You're right about her emotional state. She's clinging to that old quarterback rage because dealing with real sadness feels way too vulnerable for her right now.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ellen! 💕 Yeah... Nikki letting her pride march her into a literal heatstroke is a little terrifying. She completely ignored her body's warning signs. She seems to have gotten pretty good at disassociating. Oh, and Sandy bracing for impact on the tennis court was so fun to render lol. Mrs. Ferris definitely left out the part about Sandy meeting tons of cute undergrads at St. Christopher's, but she knows it's going to happen. I wonder how much of this is a class thing since Sandy is going to be her heiress and Josh is from a lower-class Boston neighborhood.

Emory Ahlberg

Diana, as usual, you hit on so many massive points here. I love reading these long comments on the story! You're totally right about the extreme danger of a hospital visit right now. Having EMS find her passed out on the asphalt would completely blow-up Hutchinson's fragile master plan. Her biology definitely doesn't match her shiny new driver's license! Of course, Hutchinson assumes his money and threats will keep everything contained, but he vastly underestimates Nikki's tendency to self-destruct when she gets pushed into a corner lol Honestly, her rant at Craig in the parking lot was, yeah, very reckless. She lost her filter and let her old quarterback ego take the wheel. About the rescue mission... I promise I won't cheese it out with a Hallmark movie moment. I think you'll be surprised by what happens! But yeah, Mary Palmer is exactly who Nikki needs right now. And has for a while! Switching over to our tennis players, those mixed messages from Mrs. Ferris are intentional. She's super protective of Sandy now and wants to keep her close. Planting those little seeds of doubt about Josh being surrounded by pretty law students is classic Mrs. Ferris manipulation, but I think it comes from a good place. She's scared he's going to break her heart like Ken did for her. Oh, and your idea about Josh going to law school in Boston is spot on. Working as her attorney's paralegal is just a steppingstone for him.

Emory Ahlberg

Oof, yeah, Jenny, the timeline is brutal! Nikki went from a panic attack on the couch to maybe collapsing on asphalt in under twenty-four hours. She's her own worst enemy. Honestly, that "Not Ron!" line cracked me up. He's suddenly the one safe space she has left in that football world. I think Mrs. Ferris means well. She doesn't trust men for good reason, after all. Also... well... Josh isn't exactly of the same "class" that Sandy is now. She's going to be an heiress, and he is from a low to middle-income Boston family! Mrs. Ferris might be hoping Sandy finds a more suitable beau at St. Chris.

Emory Ahlberg

He really does have excellent bone structure. 😉

Pet Jeffery

I notice, Diana, that you say of J&J "And if Season 10 is as long as Season 9..." Since each phase of J&J is significantly longer than the last, my assumption is that Phase 10 will be much longer than Phase 9. My guess is that there are whole swathes of the story ahead, swathes at which Emory hasn't so much as hinted. Of course, I could be wrong.

Crystal Peaches

It’s taken me awhile to write this. Really hit home. The pain that Nikki is experiencing, the rejection and embassies and self loathing. It all hits home, and the. Sandy too whilst on the surface in a better place than Nikki has her own challenges and doubts bubbling underneath the surface. I’d love for them both to be hot to find and love themselves but life is rarely like that. Heartbreaking and powerful. I wish Nikki could find happiness wth Zackbut something tells me that is not going to happen 🥹🥲❤️

EndOfAnAge

Oh my, Nikki's curves...

Emory Ahlberg

Yeah, Ender, heat stroke is a beast, and a Texas August does not show mercy! Since Nikki spent years pushing through pain on the field, I guess she assumes she can handle a walk. She's got that stubborn quarterback mindset where weakness is not an option. But once the sweat stops and the confusion kicks in, she can't make safe choices.... Yikes!

Emory Ahlberg

Hmmm... I hear you on wanting the plot to jump ahead, but those big threats are still in motion. Nikki had a panic attack on her date because she "saw" Davis in the theater seats. That trauma from Clinic 12 isn't in the background, it's living in her head. But there WILL be some interesting developments in that area very soon!

Emory Ahlberg

She has a lot less "body" to heat up, for sure!

Emory Ahlberg

Remember, Hutchinson wanted a toy, not a companion (wasn't allowed one). Toys don't get any psychological support at all.

Emory Ahlberg

Yeah, that Texas heat is getting to Nikki.... she definitely looks bad off! The temperature gauge isn't lying. Yikes!

Emory Ahlberg

Crystal, I appreciate you sharing this. The pain these girls are carrying is heavy. Nikki's dealing with self-loathing, and it's hard seeing her feel like a stranger in her own skin. Like you said, Sandy's path looks easier from the outside, but she's got major doubts under that surface. Loving yourself after trauma is a process. As for Zach... I think their bond is complicated. He's one of the few people who sees the real her, but there are forces pulling them in different directions. We'll have to see how / when they come back together...

EndOfAnAge

I am enjoying the contrast between how Sandy and Nikki are processing their feelings about the continuous increase in their "boinkabilty"...

Pet Jeffery

A couple of days after reading the episode, I find myself thinking about Josh going back to Boston and wondering what's happening in Massachusetts. It seems a long time since we saw any New England action and, when we did, Kendra was feeling rebellious. I imagine that one thing holding Kendra in check is the possibility of being sent back to Clinic 12. I wonder whether the current action in Jack and Jill will embolden Kendra into some form of rebellion and, if it does, what impact that might have on Half Sisters.

Crystal Peaches

I want Emory to take her time. Part of the reason I care so much about Sandy and Nikki is that there story and how they react from what happens to them is allowed to breath and take it’s’ time. Yeah I want to see what happens but this story is so peak storytelling I don’t want a rush to the end to spoil that journey

Crewchick

I love this conversation! Not that I love the pain these fictional characters are going through, but the psychological aspect is fascinating. Emory, when you said, "stranger in her own body" something clicked with me. And I am sure you meant that in the broadest sense possible, so forgive me if I am being Captain Obvious and simply drilling down on something meant to be included in your statement. I can't begin to imagine the body dysphoria (is it still called body dysphoria when the body has actually been dramatically changed?). Both girls are waking up every day in bodies that are not only different from before but that they did not choose. Things jiggle that did not use to, things are harder from lack of body strength than before, Even Nikki's height has shrunk. They both look in the mirror every day and don't recognize the person looking back at them every single time. That person may be beginning to look familiar more and more, but it is different from instant self recognition. Emory, you illustrate well in words and art how emotionally confusing and devastating this can be. This may be slightly easier for Sandy, because she feels she went from having a vanilla ice cream cone to a rocky road one. But just because a new life feels better does not mean accepting and living with it comes easily, and that new better life was still forced on her without her consent at the start. There is still going to be confusion, disconnect, and feelings of loss and regret from time to time. But for Nikki, she has not seen the good side yet of her change. She went from at least chocolate, if not rocky road, to 🐶 💩🍦. So seeing her reflection just reinforces the pain, the confusion, and the sense of complete loss of agency in her own life. That is hard for anyone, but Nick thought he was the one in control (at least for the most part even if he felt pressure to perform) he thought he was part of that 1% destine for an NFL future and multi-million dollar contracts and endorsements. That is now all gone, even if everything done to him could be reverse. By the time he could have a theoretical reversion process done, recover, regain his lost muscle, strength, endurance, agility and precision, he would be in his mid to late twenties. Over the hill for most college programs which he would need to be a part of in order to be seen by scouts and get an invite to even try out for an NFL team. And that is even if Nick (2.0) was able to regain everything he lost. Something likely almost completely impossible. So while Nikki holds onto this fantasy, more and more we see her begrudgingly accepting the reality that the future she envisioned, or at least adopted from her Dad, is gone and not coming back. The futures that do keep disrupting her fantasy are two. One, having to remain as Nikki. This feels fake and forced to her still. Or two, finding some way back to Nick, but being so much less physically and deflated emotionally. Nick 2.0 would be average and ordinary at best. Likely less than average since many of the procedures are irreversible. He would go from Alpha + to Beta -, at least in appearance, but that appearance would likely impact his psyche and would in turn impact how he saw and presented himself. That for Nick is almost as bad as being Nikki. And we may learn going forward, that option two may be far worse than remaining Nikki as she grows more use to being Nikki and learns Nikki can be very much female Alpha in the best of ways. Being attractive and desirable by both sexes can be its own aphrodisiac. And having that type of attention may seem better than a life where the male parts no longer work, or the post reversion results are such that Nick would be an "incel" the rest of his life.

Crewchick

Wow, I did not mean to go off in such detail in what was supposed to be the intro to this part of my comment! Beyond just being a stranger in their own bodies, they are also strangers in their own lives. Sandy less so, because Mrs. Ferris has brought her into a whole different world and physically relocated her as well. So while she is a stranger, she would be one in Texas whether she was Sandy or Scott. The newness and difference are more of an adventure for her. Everything in new and fresh and exciting with little baggage to remind her of Scott and what she has left behind. Even when you have rocky road all the time you can miss vanilla from time to time, but far less than if vanilla is always around you all the time while you are constantly eating rocky road. For Nikki, she went right back home! But no one recognizes her, and she is under serious threat not to tell anyone. So the only people who know who she is are her parents (and we see how well that is working out with her dad), Loren (only by accident and quite awkward given the past romantic relationship while Nick and bad break-up), and Zach, which is complicated. Zach was an old childhood friend, so the re-connection was very welcomed, but Zach is also part of the reason Nikki exists now. Hutchinson chose Nick to become Nikki because of that past relationship, because of the attraction Zack was feeling for Nick, and because of how cruel Nick was to Zack while both were on the team. Zach knew what his father was capable of, he saw the toys in his own home. He could have done more, could have protested more, could have warned Nick. But he didn't. That has left a major sense of guilt on Zack, and seeing Nikki only reminds him of that guilt. Also seeing Nick embracing Nikki, even if only for show to try and get Hutchinson off her back, is disconcerting and uncomfortable to Zach, because now his former best friend and protector is part and parcel of his father's plan to force him to change and hide who he is. That has to feel like a bit of a betrayal, almost like when Nicky went from best friend and protector, to QB1 Nick the bully and tormentor. Zack reconnected with "Nicky" at his apartment playing Madden and eating pizza, and on the date bowling and playing pool. And now Nikki shows up at practice, the hot, but somewhat crazy girlfriend. And all while his boyfriend is right there unprepared and seeing it all play out. How he treated Nikki on the field was not right, but you can kid of see where it is coming from. Especially considering he is only 20 and trying to process all this. I think Zach will always be a friend to Nikki. But I think the reliability of that friendship may vary and ebb and flow, depending on Zach's own circumstances and emotional state. We just saw when forced to choose between Nikki and Armando that he chose Armando. At least when Armando applied pressure. Whether that pressure is a sign of future cracks in that relationship we will have to wait and see. But I think we may see that the more Nikki get into character for survival, the more this may become uncomfortable for Zack because as much as Nicky was his best friend, Nikki is his father's creation to change and control Zach's life, and somewhere in-between all that is the ghost of Nick and the pain he caused that may not be fully forgiven or excised from Zach's memories. Nikki is also going to become a constant reminder to Zach of Hutchinson's disappointment in Zach and disapproval of his orientation and lifestyle. I mean how much disappointment in you does it show that your father feels compelled to not only spend millions to make you jacked and improve your football performance, as if that is the only true measure of value, but that he also spent many more millions to custom make you a "girlfriend" he thinks will allow you to live a more conventional life so you can pursue his aspirations for your life? Now Ron also knows, which was a complete surprise. Especially for Nikki and the readers. I think Ron may turn out to be a more reliable ally for Nikki, at least to the extent he is read in on what is going on. But I don't see him as a romantic interest. Just a really good, smart and trustworthy guy, which is something Nikki very much needs in her camp right now. Even Lauren is only read in up to Nikki's fallback cover story of a hormone imbalance, and that story has been shared with Evie, who was not a part of Nick's life before Clinic 12 and does not know him/her as Nick. But she certainly does like Nikki! 😉 Sandy is by far the person she currently shares the most in common right now. She is for all intents and purposes Nick's "half sister". But she too never knew Nick before Clinic 12 and was not a part of that life. She will be a big part of Nikki's future and self acceptance, but she has no ties to Nick's past. Now imagine that. You come home after a major trauma that is still ongoing as the changes continue and Hutchinson has expectations and demand that must be fulfilled or consequences will be suffered and not one word can be said about it in public. You have seven people who have any idea right now of who you are and were. Of those seven only three and a half know pretty much the full story. Half because Armando clearly knows more than Lauren, Evie and Ron, whether he knows the full, full story is unclear, but he knows enough to be a danger to both Nikki and Hutchinson. We know he is not on Team Hutchinson because Nikki exists for the very purpose of taking Zach away from him. But being on Team Zach does not necessarily mean he is on Team Nikki. At least right now I think if there were a way to betray Nikki without harming Zach or hurting their relationship I think he would act without thinking twice. Zach is a good friend and allie, but he is almost as emotionally damaged as Nikki growing up under his father's shadow. He will be there for Nikki to the extent he can, but he can only handle so much additional stress added to his own immense stress, and as we saw on the football field may not always be there when Nikki needs him. Mr. Palmer knows all. He is also responsible in part for allowing this to happen to Nick, and that is a lot of guilt to process, especially for someone with a history of seeking an escape from reality in a bottle. He may come through for Nikki in the end. But the odds of that are not looking good. He seems like a character destine to fall or fade away. For now anyway he brings no support to Nikki and has yet to earn back any trust or respect. That leaves Mary Palmer as the only person who truly knows the real Nicky/Nick/Nikki, will be there for her 24/7 without question and will selflessly put Nikki's needs ahead of her own every time. I think Nick had a good and loving relationship with his Mom, but as an alpha also had fears of being seen as a Mama's boy (which Dad probably encouraged). Coming home as Nikki but still having most of Nick's mind set and a desire to return to being Nick, some of that Mamma's boy fear likely existed, especially presenting as female while not wanting to be. That probably played a part in Nikki's choice to move in with her Dad. Clearly a choice that did not work. So as much as Nicky/Nick loved their Mom, I think only Nikki is truly learning now just how deep that Mother's love is, and just how much it can be depended upon.

Think about that! A mother's love is absolutely amazing, but then there is that saying "it takes a village to raise a child". The town they live in is at least several thousand, maybe tens of thousands with a college campus and other institutions in it. Nick likely knew a great many of them, and almost everyone knew Nick, at least under the Friday night lights. there was probably almost nowhere in town Nick could go without running into friends or fans. At school, he was the BMOC even as a freshman because of his high school performance and reputation. But Nikki, not Nick, returned from Clinic 12. Nikki knows everyone Nick knows. But no one, but for seven people in a town of thousands, knows Nikki. Nick owned the town, but Nikki has to present as an out-of-town stranger who knows no one. Rattling off Ron's stats was reckless and dangerous. Strangers are generally not trusted in small towns, especially one who seem to know more than they should. Being identified as a cousin of a former BMOC and town king may buy some leeway, but that only goes so far before suspicions rise up. This has to create a kind of mental and emotional dysphoria that likely can be as distressing and maybe even in some ways more so, than any physical dysphoria Nikki is experiencing. It is kind of like Nikki is some kind of corporal ghost, that people can see and not recognize. Or maybe like one of the several Star Trek episodes from the various series where a character is out of phase. They are present and can see everyone and everything in real time, but they can not interact. Nikki is out of phase in Nick's world. Or Nick in Nikki's body is out of phase in his own world. Only instead of the crew working to bring Kirk back into phase. Nick needs to phase out so Nikki can exist within her own phase.

Have been having similar thoughts myself Pet. Though I am sure Mortimer will be able to keep her well under thumb. You can tell they have a long history well before Clinic 12, and that Mortimer does not much like her and does not trust or respect her or who she was before her change. Still when the cat is away the mice will try and play. So try something she might. While Clinic 12 may collapse, unless Davis is killed or jailed, he will remain a threat to her even is Xu is no longer one. Still sending Kendra back at all to her former wife and home is more than odd, as is Mrs. Ferris agreeing to take her back in, even in her new form and as a servant. So I would have to think there is more of a story arc for Kendra that Emory has in mind and is just waiting for the timing of the story to allow it. Given Kendra's backstory and rep, I am sure it is one with many twists, turns and action. One would think for Half Sisters it would likely mean Mrs. F bringing her to Texas for some reason. But with Josh going back to Boston, maybe not? Does Josh, then working for the Ferris family attorney find himself interacting with Kendra? Or is he the draw that brings Sandy and/or Mrs. F back to Boston where an encounter with Kendra ensues? It will be interesting to see how Emory weaves it into the greater story. Just an off the cuff observation, but if Connie survives the Clinic 12 uprising, she might make an interesting playmate for Kendra. Both seem to hold resentment and vengeance dreams. And maybe even Liam, who is also from Boston and very angry. Actually that might make an interesting sub story, spin off, or one off extended "what if" snapshot. If Kendra could get her hands on even a fraction or her fortune, mixed with Connie's tactical and strategic skills, and Liam's computer and cyber skills, you could have the making of a vengeful criminal enterprise. A lot of details to work out to make this thought something worth writing and reading. But an interesting though if only that. An LGTBQ Oceans 3? Kind of like Oceans 8 but with trans women? 🤔

Here was I playing out a totally different scenario. I was imagining some novel and surprising developments occurring in the dynamic of the Kendra and Mortimer dyad. An unexpected shift arising from within Kendra distorted psyche. From her awareness and ‘fear’ (new feeling of vulnerability now for Kendra) in relation to knowing Mortimer being ‘on to her,’ and this leading to shifts in her overall outlooks. Maybe initially arising, from these very conflictual interactions between them, combined with her own very deeply held distorted internalised misogyny, some new feelings arising in Kendra she had not anticipated developing. Her resentment, envy of Mortimer masculine physical attributes, and the assumptions she holds around the aire of superiority and arrogance she perceives he must possess as man over her now only being a woman. All of this triggering some latent attraction to Mortimer, his status and the very physical masculine features that define him as male and a man and that she now sees no longer available to her now as she is a female and ‘just a woman.’ I know, I know, just playing with a fantasy. Wanting to see Ken’s (Kendra) misogynistic beliefs backfiring and now shaping her and her perceptions of who she is now as a woman.

I was going to say, "it's not the heat, it is the humidity". But Nikki is in Texas, so yeah, it's the heat! 😉

Gemma, while I don't really buy into Mortimer as an object of attraction, I do think the two might deserve their own Snapshot to explore what is going on back in Boston all this time. I kind of see it though as more a hostile Pygmalion (My Fair Lady), or perhaps "Taming of the Shrew", or possibly slightly comical "Kiss Me Kate"? Each possible story line version though, without the sexual tension in those stories. But maybe once the ordeal is complete there is new mutual respect and kind of friendship between the two? I am sure if Emory entertains this idea for a Snapshot, whatever she might do would be amazing! Thanks for suggesting them for more attention.

Emory Ahlberg

We will get back to Hutchinson and Kendra eventually, but that will be a snapshot story (or two)! Of course, they could appear in Half Sisters again, but it would have to be part of Nikki / Sandy's story. 😊

Pet Jeffery

Yes, of course. Half Sisters is Nikki and Sandy's story. But the business of Josh moving back to Boston underlines the fact that whatever happens up north affects Sandy.

Heat stroke and heat exhaustion is NO JOKE. Get yourself cool now Nikki!
