Sandy's getting tennis lessons AND life lessons from Mrs. Ferris today. Turns out that being a beautiful, wealthy young woman in East Texas may come with its own unique challenges.

Meanwhile, Nikki's having an even WORSE day than last episode. After the disaster at the stadium, she decided to walk home. Alone. In Texas. In summer. Without telling anyone.

What could possibly go wrong? 🔥☀️😰

(Spoiler: Everything. Everything goes wrong.)

Phew! This one is long at 33 panels, but I had a very specific place I wanted to end. Also, this one's a heavy episode, but it helps set up the rest of the season. Thank you so much for your continued support! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this one. 💕

P.S. the default Patreon viewer really shrinks the HD images, so you're probably best off downloading the PDF!

Mrs. Ferris means well in her own way, but she's really got some internalized misogyny going on. Now it's a question of if Sandy will internalize it herself. Are we on the road to "From Poor Boy to Rich Bitch: The Sandy Story"? Best case scenario for the scary situation Nikki put herself in. And now the path lays open for her, she finally gets to define herself. I predict a name change in the future. "Nikki" was chosen for her, but I doubt she'll go back to Nick. Someone new is soon to be born. Which is bad news for you, Nikki's Dad. Might want to start considering what size of breast implant you want ahead of time :P Great work as always, Emory! <3

Tim

That was good. I mean really good. An excellent episode to set up the rest of the season. Can't wait to meet and get to know the "real" Nikki. Like I said, this is really good, and it's about to get a whole lot better.

Jade Diaz

Hopefully Sandy becomes the Regina George of St Christopher’s

Jenny S

Noooo, I don't want Sandy to get hit by a bus! :P

Jade Diaz

I sure hope Morrison got paid in advance because the odds of Hutchinson coming back from Clinic 12 are about a good as snowballs chance in August in Texas

Jade Diaz

“I was a woman possessed. I spent about 80 percent of my time talking about Sandy. And the other 20 percent of the time, I was praying for someone else to bring her up so I could talk about her more…”

Jade Diaz

“I saw Sandy Ferris wearing army pants and flip-flops, so I bought army pants and flip-flops.”

WOW!!!!!! You were right when you said this was a heavy episode. And you certainly did not Hallmark Movie it. Though you had me for half a second when she saw Zach. I get that Nikki does not want to be forced anymore into being someone she is not. But who is Nikki now? Does Nikki even know? Nicky was a little kid. As much as Nick/Nikki may want to go back. We can never go home again, at least not to the exact same time and place we remember while being the exact same person we were. Nicky grew up. Now we have Nick and Nikki. I am sure there is a lot of Nicky in both of them. But by Nikki's own account Nick became an egotistical asshole. And she says that was not really her choice, that she did it to make her Dad happy and get him to stop drinking. We don't really know who Nikki is yet. She is not Nick, as much as she says she wants to be sometimes. There is still a good bit of him in her. The football knowledge, the confidence/over confidence that comes out from time to time, the sense of humor and larger than life personality that sneaks out like at the bowling alley. But we are also seeing a lot of things the old Nick Palmer was not. And that is good. But it does not answer, "who is Nikki Palmer"? While we are far more than our physical make-up, our appearance does influence how people see us, how they respond to us, and that in turn can and does have its own effect on how we perceive ourselves. Nikki is no longer the 6'1'' 200 lbs quarterback who could bench press a Buick. Nikki is tall for a girl at or under 6', but shorter than Nick, and quite slender. She has a body and face that turns men's heads and makes other women envious, jealous and catty. Over time that feedback plays a part in shaping who we become. And most likely most of Nikki's changes are irreversible, at least to the extent Nikki can't become exactly as Nick was physically. So how does Nikki reconcile the physical, the mental and the emotional as she is now? She can't roll back the clock and become Nicky again. She can't undue the treatments, hormones and surgeries. So she can't become the Nick 2.0 version of the young man everyone knew and remembered. I don't know, at least right now, I don't think Nikki can join Sandy in being openly trans, because none of this was Nikki's choice based on how she was internally identifying herself. Most trans individuals begin from the inside and work their way out. They identify differently from what their body may present externally. They then chose how they are going to adapt and change to better align their body and external presentation with how they identify internally. Nikki is just the opposite. She had her body changed against her will first, and now she is being forced to change who she is on the inside the match the new body. I don't know how you do that when you barely knew who you were before the forced changes. Nikki seems really confused and even disturbed by the kiss. In part because it was not awful. But Nick was a sexually active you man in the prime of his life and nearing his sexual peak. Nick was part of a team and also had a lot of friends he believed thought highly of him. Then he is put in isolation on an island for over a year, physically changed and emotionally broken. He is provided no sexual outlet, no physical or emotional contact with others, then he is pumped full of megadoses of hormones and other chemical and pharmacological treatments, rebranded Nikki and sent home, where almost no one recognizes him, and he slowly learns many of his teammates and "friends" did not hold him in as high a regard as he thought. And on top of that his Dad has basically rejected him the last time he saw him, for becoming the thing his dad handed him over to Hutchinson to become to save his own skin. Then he has a reunion with an old childhood friend with whom he had a lot of emotional connection. So is it any surprise when he kisses that friend, and it does not feel bad, and may even feel good? It does not mean his orientation has changed. He is just feeling something for the first time in a long time, possibly even before being sent to Clinic 12. I get that Nick does not want to go on playing Hutchinson's games and wants to be her/him self. But Nikki does not even really know who that is right now. And trying to find out in Texas could be dangerous if she/she just stops being Nikki and tries to reclaim Nick. It would be far easier to continue to present as Nikki at this point and continue working on figuring out just who that is without Hutchinson's pressure and threats. Besides Hutchinson will never let him reclaim Nick. Because being honest and true to him/her self would mean telling the story of how Hutchinson had him kidnapped and forcibly changed. That is a story people would find hard to believe and Hutchinson would likely kill the entire Palmer family before allowing any word of to be spoken. So Emory, where are you now taking us on this journey???

Crewchick

Seeing Dr. Bishop again was a total surprise not on my bingo card. It adds some interesting twists. I obviously knew he worked with Mrs. Ferris because of the procedures done on Sandy. I did not realize he was also connected to Hutchinson. He acts like a nice guy, but if he works with Hutchinson and has an agreement to treat his Pets, he has to have some idea what is going on. He may even have connections to Clinic 12 or the doctors there. This means Hutchinson has the means to follow through on threats right there in Texas and not have to send Nikki back to Clinic 12 to carry them out. But it also means if he works for Mrs. Ferris that he could also, through her, be a resource for Nikki and Sandy to make any other change choice they might choose. Nikki could eventually decide to go full female (which would be an interesting contrast with Sandy being openly trans). Or he might be able to do some of the surgeries to try at least to undo some of what was done at clinic 12 to make Nikki male appearing again, at least as best he can. I admit I would find that story line disappointing. But not knowing how Nikki sees her/him self right now, it can't be rules out as an option.

Gemma

Emory, this episode is so much heavier than I ever imagined it could be. Even with your introduction and your warnings it was far more ominous than I thought it would be. So many insights and challenges identified in this episode for both protagonists. With Sandy you ground us in the current realities of society of what she may encounter around transphobia. I too, like Sandy, was naive and hadn’t thought or taken into account how her biggest challenges will come from other girls. The ways these other girls will feel about her, threatened by her, her beauty and her privileged background with competitive jealousy and a ‘subtle cattiness’ that Sandy has had little life experiences around handling. Sandy is so lucky she has Mrs Ferris in her corner. Mrs Ferris as a woman seems to be very versed in ‘the art of war,’ and how to navigate ‘bitchy, insecure girls.’ As for Nikki, the trauma she has tried to suppress is now more fully evident and available to her. Witnessing her internalised critic, the underlying psychological trauma she holds represented by her dad’s voice and that of Davis was very unsettling to hear. Even her old internalised criticism she subjects herself to delved out by Nicks old inner psyche which further fed into cruelty of the trauma arising from Nikki’s heat stroke delirious state. The concluding statements Nikki makes to her mum further blurs where this story will and could go. Certainly a lot more rocky and not as smoothly as I had anticipated. On a visual level I wanted to say how much I loved the different and unusual unique images of Nikki that you captured in this episode. The way she sat under a tree in the shade looked so real and natural. Followed by the images around how she looked when draped over the shoulders of Hutchinson’s hired help. That image in particular capturing current physical vulnerability of her female form and now being a girl. Also, it was very clever the way you took us into Nikki’s perspective, her experience, as you made us as confused and bewildered as she would have felt as the images of her ‘rescuer’ shifted from Zach to Davis to Hutchinson’s guy. I was hoping for something a bit lighter, I guess the storm/ storms have to come before the change to brighter days can occur. I was so looking forward to just a couple of bumps (no pun intended) in the road and a smoother transition for Nikki into coed College life with her gal pal Sandy.

Crewchick

I also have to say I genuinely fear for Nikki if she follows through right now on standing up to Hutchinson. Hutchinson will not tolerate or permit Nikki pulling out from this agreement. He has invested too much into it. And his ego won't tolerate anyone saying no to him. Look what he did to Janice over a business disagreement. Hutchinson would see Nikki's refusal as an attack on his family. Seeing how he treated Janice, knowing he has had numerous other toys, having Dr. Bishop on call. We may see Nikki in a cell and undergoing additional surgeries before we see her in a dorm room. I know Nikki will win in the end. But you could e putting a very hard and sharp twist in the road for Nikki before she gets her happy ending. I certainly did not see that as a possibility before tonight. Maybe Nikki needs to lose another fight before she can finally rise and win? You have totally and utterly put my Half Sisters Story GPS on the blink! My little red car is just spinning in circles on the map right now. I have no idea where we are going from here at this point. One crazy idea that just came to mind. Could we see a complete role reversal? Mrs. Ferris just had a very realistic conversation about some of the things Sandy will face not just being trans, but pretty and rich too. Could she get cold feet about coming out? And even go so far as to see Dr. Bishop about doing her lower half? And could Nikki wind up being the one coming out at St. Christopher's as openly trans with people knowing her as both Nick and Nikki? Maybe even going off the hormones and becoming a little or a lot more androgynous looking? That is not where I would want to see Nikki go. But tonight you just put every option for where this story could go back on the table! Mind officially blown! 🤯

Crewchick

I have to say, I was really looking forward to Nikki living that college coed in the dorms life. Dressing really cute, looking super hot even in a baggy sweatshirt, leggings or workout booty shorts, no make-up and hair in a pony. Getting to be one of the girls with Loren and Ivy. Maybe going out for a sport or even cheering if Loren and Ivy can pressure her enough. It just seemed really fun and idyllic. I think I bought too much into your bonus picture from last year with Nikki and Sandy dressed super cute and kind of hot, in their dorm room by Ethan Allen thanks to Mrs. Ferris double platinum Black Card. Maybe we will still get there, but right now I just don't know. Nikki is just too pretty to go androgynous or butch. But wanting to be herself already when she has shown only the slightest or mildest passing interest in some of the things associated with being a girl that she has experienced, does not give me hope for her embracing presenting and living in a highly female way. If you do intent to take us back to the coed experience at some point, I am now majorly curious how you are going to do that at this point. Because I see equations right now that have Nikki no longer wanting to be Nikki anymore. Or, Nikki taking on Hutchinson and suffering some consequences. Because if she was not ready for a little walk in the Taxes heat, she is in no shape to take on Hutchinson at this point and win. Because beating the Texas heat is not about being strong or tough, it is about being smart. And right now, both Nikki and Mary are a little too much on the emotional and impetuous side when it comes to Hutchinson. Heck, less than 24 hours ago, Mary was ready to go over to his home and shoot him with her shotgun. Actually if you are still entertaining a cross-over episode where Jill comes to Texas to check on Nikki, this would be a really great time. While I would love to see her bring Josie, Emily and maybe even Connie along to go medieval on Hutchinson's ass. Now would probably be a really good time to impart four years of wisdom on Nikki about coping with what has been done to her and continuing to move forward. And who knows what other twists may be out there. In J&J Xu showed Jill images of Nikki at the mall and said she was in danger and that he wanted to send Jill to Texas to check on her. It sounded like concern, like Xu maybe had a heart deep down, even if warped and twisted. But now that we know about the coming out prize. Who knows what types of experiments might have been done to Nikki? Maybe Xu's concern for Nikki was less altruistic or paternal and more concern for an investment property. Maybe there are things going on making her condition permanent even without further hormone treatments, or maybe she is becoming more female and does not even know it yet? Can't wait until the 15th to see if we start getting any clues where you might be leading us.

I’m still trying to process this latest episode of Half Sisters and what it will mean for both Sandy and Nikki’s story. I have my concerns as I was so looking forward to witnessing Sandy and Nikki’s experiences as coeds at College. Also all the other storyline’s I played out in my mind involved Nikki forced into having to face and deal with further aspects of the physical reality of her ongoing feminisation. Her new social life and status now as ‘one of the girls’ with Lauren, Evie and Sandy. I was, am still hoping (romantic within me), for things also to happen with Zach. I do so love her feminine voice and hope that this, and other fixed realities of her feminisation ultimately dictate the direction and pathway she ultimately takes. I also was hoping for Sandy to take the decision for herself, on her own terms and deciding to undergone final bottom surgery. Now I’m just feeling very lost as to what will, could happen. I know that is the art of the story, and certainly keeping us all guessing is what you do well Emory. I guess I will have to put my trust in your creative vision and process. But, gees it’s hard.

Maggie Heels

Ohhh, Nikki... I hope you realize someday that turning from Nick to Nikki was the best thing that could ever happened to you in your not so easy life... ❣️❣️❣️

Zoe Storm

Heck yeah, girl. Take ownership of your life 💖

Pet Jeffery

Wow! What an episode! It looks as though it sets up the struggles that both Sandy and Nikki have to face for for the remainder of the series. (Or do you call it a season? I forget.) Sandy's future difficulties, as a rich and beautiful trans girl, will be different from those of most trans women but, in their own way, look as though they could be heart-breaking. Catty girls could certainly make me cry when I was young. Nikki's struggles are on a whole different level. Is it possible to go back to being Nick when she looks like a beautiful young woman? She may find some solace with horses, but that, in itself is rather a girl thing. There are a huge number of pony books written for girls, but written for boys not so much. Trying to confront or thwart Hutchinson is going to be a dangerous game. Nikki's mum may (or may not, when reality bites) be prepared to defend Nikki with her shotgun, but most of Nikki's problems are not the sort of things that it's possible to shoot. Some of Nikki's feminisation is probably irreversible. Reversing any of it will be expensive and nobody with megabucks has any wish to see Nikki as a boy. It's hard to see how Nikki can return to being Nick and, if she does, she'll have to make some big compromises. Hell, as I write this, I notice that I'm consistently calling Nikki 'she'. I just can't think of her as 'he'.

Kris Greg

Nikki needed to break before she could move forward. I'm hoping that she finds the new, true her & finds happiness.

wolfdragon

Someone please tell me her mama Jill will be there soon to hold and help her because i'm really worried for her mental state.

2026-09-14 23:00 I think that saying stop to someone ( her dad) is a good way to show that nicky is growing up. But will she listen to Jill when she came to her. 🤔 I continue to think that sandy coming out is not a good thing to Nicky. But eventually it could be a good thing if it goes slowly at first. Not if she say anything but don't hide it and people start speaking of it one by pne

AB

She's still dreaming isn't she, mom and daughter wearing the same shade of nail polish ? Looks like she hasn't woken up yet

Crewchick

Wow AB, you might be right! This may be Nikki's brain finally unpacking everything all at once and forcing her to confront it. What she says and does when she wakes up may not be exactly as she is saying and doing in the dream but would be heavily influenced by what transpired in them. Next thing you know, we will find out JR is still alive too! 🤠 😂

Gemma

I was so caught up with the story Emory that I forgot to comment on just how brilliant the action shots images were of Sandy and Mrs Ferris playing tennis. Again, very realistic and they certainly show off how beautiful Sandy looks in action. I also like all the small subtle feminine ‘girly details’ that you put into your images of all the girls such as their different coloured painted nails.

Alex Cioranic-Alex From the Tri-Cities

Me reading panels 22 and 23: Davis!!! DAVIS!!!! DDDDDAAAAVVVVVIIIISSSS!!! My dearest muse Emory, you truly have an unmatched talent, for writing and illustrating utterly loathsome, morally bankrupt characters.

mdaily

Based on that last panel, it sounds like Nikki is in just the right space to be ready for some time with Jill. She could use a little of what big sister is selling........What an impossible day this has been for Nikki! Reacting with horror when she realized that she had managed to enjoy both the date and the kiss! A whole new set of feelings for an old friend. Being booted out of the kingdom you once ruled for being that same friend's "chick", who should not be at football practice, she is gonna screw up the vibe. QB cannot have his squeeze at practice! ..... Waking up, first seeing the man she trusts/wants, (whether she wants to or not), then seeing the man she most fears. She cannot experience her feelings in real time without hearing his taunts. ......moving forward, Nikki has already expressed an interest in getting involved in a physical activity. All her friends are cheerleaders. Nikki has Taskmaster-like photographic reflexes, and learns by watching, pretty much. (the REAL Taskmaster, from the comic books. remember the movies are just fiction someone made up). I think we have all seen this coming, but it has been set up so well!..........Finally, it seems that she is ready to stop protecting her father, and to stop deluding herself as to his true nature.

mdaily

Sandy and Nikki are both going to be high profile young ladies. Sandy as a Has-it-all openly trans rich bitch and Nikki on the sidelines every week. Some people close to her already are thinking of her as a voluntary trans with a cover story. Would Nikki come out as Nick Palmer? Openly declaring her status as trans, voluntary or otherwise, would blow Hutchinsons plans out of the water!

Gemma

Further feedback. Just noting Emory how clever it was for you to change dialogue colour of Nikki’s voice in her heat stroke state under the tree. How ‘inner critic voice’ changed from her now usual pink dialogue box (her new feminised voice) to green to enable us to see and hear the more prejudiced voice, attitudes and outlooks of Nick that are still in her head.

pe zr

intense

Crystal Peaches

Wow. I need to process this . So intense. I think this is an incredibly well written story and it show Nikki apparently going in a character direction that makes great dramatic sense but isn’t necessarily what I direction I want her to go in and yet it’s SUCH a great read and I still care deeply about the characters. That’s a shining example of great storytelling

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Tim 💕 I know I'm her writer, but I'm still oddly proud of how far Nikki has come - even if she still has much further to go.

Emory Ahlberg

LOL - we can hope and dream... Sandy would (at least initially) be totally flummoxed by being the center of attention

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Kris! 💖 Exactly right. Nikki has lived most of her life trying to mold herself into what others want her to be. Luckily, she's beginning to realize that the only person she needs to impress is herself.

TheVampire

I'm curious will we see Mrs ferris ex husband soon? I wonder how she's doing. I forget her name

Kris Greg

The fact that she was leaning towards the feminine as a child before her dad shamed it out of her may be a factor in her subconsciously finding her way. Also, I love seeing Sandy whenever possible. She's a wonderful mirror & "older sister" type for Nikki.

Gemma

Kendra. I too am wondering what she is getting up to and what the future holds for her.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Maggie! I think the trauma from Clinic 12 will prevent that thought from ever entering her mind. She was kidnapped and held in that place for almost 2 years while her body was changed. She was in fear for her life most of that time, as well. That said, I do think she's beginning to realize that being the version of "Nick" that had ALSO been forced on her sucked and she doesn't want to go back to that.

Emory Ahlberg

That's really sweet of you, Wolf! 💕Unfortunately, Jill is held up with her own difficulties! The events of Half Sisters are currently taking place in mid-August 2020, and the events of Jack & Jill are at the start of September 2020. So we'll have to see what happens on the island!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Zoe! Honestly, Nikki just saying that she won't lose herself to save her dad is a huge step. So much misery in Nick's life (and, by extension those around him) came from him trying to meet impossible expectations and remolding his personality to make his father proud. Now, she's saying "no more" - I don't care if I'm her writer, I'm proud of her lol

Emory Ahlberg

Rich old bastards have a way of being annoyingly difficult to get rid of...

Emory Ahlberg

Haha, thank you, Alex. Those are good descriptors of Davis for sure.

Erik N

I wanted to ask, is there more of a backstory to Mrs Ferris original daughter? She did say earlier that petticoat punishment was tradition in her family, so was her original daughter a son? Did you cover that story somewhere?

Jade Diaz

I have a suggestion

Emory Ahlberg

Hi Erik! 💖 Sofia's story is covered a bit more in Season 2 of Half Sisters. Sofia was a trans girl. The "petticoat punishment' as a tradition was true, but it was also the excuse that Mrs. Ferris deployed against her husband to allow her daughter to dress as a girl.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Crystal! 💕 Your trust in the story means a lot to me. I think we have to remember Nikki has no idea who she is yet. Her entire life has been a performance. Back before football, she was a sensitive kid with long hair who loved animals. She buried that kid to build the macho quarterback persona and keep her dad sober. Now Hutchinson wants her to play the obedient girlfriend. Both roles are just masks. In that hospital bed, she realizes she has to strip away all those external expectations before she can find her true self!

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Gemma! Yep. The green text under the oak tree belongs to "old Nick," the orange text is Davis, the sort of amber is Dad. But yeah... She needs to face the monsters in her own head before she can figure out her future.

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Mdaily! 💕 Blowing up Hutchinson's plans by going public sounds like an epic strategy.... But we also have to remember the terrifying stakes. Hutchinson is not just some local rich guy. He has the police in his pocket, dark connections, and the full backing of Second Dawn. Janice explicitly warned Nikki that stepping out of line means her family is dead meat. So she needs to be smart about this...

Emory Ahlberg

You totally nailed the emotional whiplash Nikki experienced in the last 24 hours! It's terrifying for her to realize she enjoyed kissing Zach. She spent her youth building a macho wall to protect her dad, and feeling those walls crack is scary as hell... But now, hopefully, she's refusing to set herself on fire to keep her dad warm.

Emory Ahlberg

Gemma, I am so glad you liked those tennis shots! Rendering that match was a blast. Mrs. Ferris absolutely schooled Sandy out there, but our girl still managed to look flawless even while losing terribly lol.

Emory Ahlberg

Sorry, AB, this isn't Inception hehe - she is definitely awake in that hospital room. The matching nail polish is just a fun coincidence. Maybe Mary Palmer simply loves a good deep purple polish as much as Nikki does! But yeah... Everything happening with her mom is a hundred percent real. Nikki really has to face her situation now without the excuse of a fever dream.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Pet! I think you nailed the setup for this season. Mrs. Ferris's tennis court lesson definitely showed Sandy that navigating society as a rich girl requires a whole different kind of armor. And you make a great point about Nikki's brutal reality. I think it's super telling that you (and most of the rest of us) instinctively use female pronouns for her now. Her body has fundamentally changed, and she knows deep down that throwing on a binder won't magically make her the old Nick Palmer again. You're right about Mary Palmer's shotgun, too. Bullets won't solve a billionaire conspiracy!

Emory Ahlberg

Gemma, I really appreciate you taking the time to unpack all this. I know it was a heavy one, but this breakdown was a long time coming. For Sandy, learning high-society femininity is basically like learning a foreign language. Back when she was Scott, conflict meant getting into a shouting match with Josh or just running away. Now she is stepping into a world where a rumor can ruin someone's week. Sandy has always been a survivor, and now she is simply learning to survive in Louboutins instead of sneakers lol. And yeah... setting up those perspective shifts during the heat stroke was fun but also intense to create. Nikki has been running on pure, stubborn adrenaline since she got off that island. That's four months of shoving the trauma down. I tried to show hints that it was starting to become unglued with her panic attacks which then progressed to brief hallucinations with Davis. And she keeps trying to tackle this situation using her old football captain playbook, but that playbook is completely useless against Second Dawn. And I totally get wanting a fun, breezy college life for these two. But Nikki had to hit rock bottom first. She spent her whole youth performing a macho role just to keep her dad sober, and playing the submissive girlfriend for Hutchinson is the exact same trap. If she just coasted into dorm life right now, she'd still be living a massive lie. So it's possible that this breakdown is actually her biggest breakthrough. She's finally stripping away everyone else's expectations. The road ahead is definitely bumpy, but it is the only way she can figure out who she actually is beneath all the conditioning!

Emory Ahlberg

I totally get why this episode left you feeling a bit lost, Gemma. It's definitely a massive left turn from the breezy college prep. But remember that Nikki declaring she is done playing Hutchinson's game does not magically erase her physical reality. She's still stuck with her new body. The crucial difference now is agency. Instead of being forced into a submissive Stepford wife role to appease a billionaire, Nikki wants to decide exactly how she wants to exist in this new body. As for Zach, their connection is genuine. The way they let their guards down over sushi and bonded during that dance proved they have real chemistry. But is it romantic? Whatever ends up happening there, for any connection to survive, it just has to be their own choice instead of a mandate from a psycho dad.

Emory Ahlberg

You're totally spot on about Mrs. Ferris, Jenny! She definitely uses high-society politeness as a weapon. It'll be fun seeing our former street thief use those lessons on campus... or is she too nice?? And, yeah, Nikki can't go back to being the old Nick, but she absolutely refuses to be Hutchinson's obedient little beard for Zach. Figuring out exactly who she is without all those masks is her next massive hurdle. And you're right about Howard! LOL! 💕

Emory Ahlberg

Nolwenn, you're right about Nicky growing up. 💕 Realizing she spent her whole youth playing a macho role just to protect her dad's sobriety is a big breakthrough for her. Maybe she is finally breaking that toxic cycle. You also make a fantastic point about Sandy's openness complicating things. Sandy deciding to live her truth at St. Christopher's is brave as hell, but it puts a huge spotlight on them both right when Nikki desperately wants to fly under the radar!

Emory Ahlberg

As usual, Diana, I think you nailed the psychology here. Nikki is stuck in an absolute no-man's-land right now. The old macho Nick was just a shield built to keep her dad sober / proud. This new version is a cage Hutchinson built for her through Second Dawn. She can't physically go back to being a giant quarterback. Her body has altered. And, yeah, dealing with that new external feedback, like the guy hitting on her at Buc-ee's or Evie flirting on the football field, is rewiring her brain too. Your read on the Zach kiss is spot on. After surviving an island of pure trauma and getting rejected by her own dad, feeling genuine human connection will short-circuit her. She's starved for safety and affection. Plus, Hutchinson is a terrifying threat. But that hallucination of Davis under the oak tree showed her the true cost of repressing her trauma. She has to find a middle ground between the fake macho guy and the fake helpless girl. It's going to be a messy road to figure out who she really is!

Emory Ahlberg

We will definitely see Kendra again, but it will be as a snapshot somewhere down the line. Mrs. Ferris is keeping her away from Sandy for obvious reasons!

Crewchick

Emory, you said that the misery in Nick's life came from trying to meet impossible expectations. Now I don't doubt that is true, but as best we can tell from the backstory and flashbacks presented so far, Nick was actually meeting those impossible expectations. Now maybe Nick and his Dad, and the coach, and even Mr. Hutchinson are all untrustworthy narrators to some extent, but they have Nick Palmer QB1 as a freshman at St. Christopher's, was all that and a bag of chips. A player headed for a Heisman Trophy and a pro contract and likely a successful pro career as a pro. Now whether Nick would have been truly happy in that life, or even realized he was not happy, can only be speculated upon. But in a "what If" approach to the story, this Nikki Palmer has finally hit bottom in her attempt to hold in to Nick Palmer, and now can realize the truth that most of her life she has been wearing various masks (a theme you suggested in the art work in Mary Palmer's home where we saw several tribal masks on the wall). But "What If" Nick Palmer had never been kidnapped and sent to Clinic 12? Would that Nick Palmer have gone on possibly believing he was living the golden life, or would have something else eventually happened forcing him to reassess his life and finally question and seek an answer about who he truly was?

Crewchick

Emory Ahlberg

Diana, you make a solid point about his outward success on the field. He definitely hit all those crazy milestones on paper. But we have to look at the brutal toll it took on him behind closed doors. At the sushi restaurant, Nikki admitted to Zach that she used to stare at the ceiling for hours feeling like an empty robot. She was totally hollowed out. Ron even told her at the stadium that he used to catch Nick crying under the bleachers. The misery was already there long before Clinic 12. He was an absolute pressure cooker ready to blow. Even without Hutchinson's sick intervention, that macho facade was eventually going to shatter. He simply could not keep living as his dad's perfect trophy SON forever.
