After buying the perfect bra, Nikki and Mom go shopping for new clothes, and Mom is struck with inspiration...

I went a little overboard this time with 20 new pages. Phew! I don't think you'll mind though. 💖

I don't think it will be any secret which is my favorite page of this episode, but I'm very curious what you'll all think of the ending!

For the curious: Nikki has one more episode, and then we'll be back to Sofia's tale.  😀

Oh oh. Mom's got... plans! Next stop the salon?!?

Nicegent42

I'm loving the shopping trip!

Andre

Mom saw the daughter she always wanted and she is going to make that dream come true.

Emily

I think what Mom saw was at the end was the truth, that passed all that male bravado was a beautiful daughter.......and her long forgotten desire to connect with a daughter just by passed any misgiving she has about forcing her son to adapt to womanhood. I am sure her mom will be a force of nature with one goal.................Help my daughter come out of the trans closet and see how wonderful it is to be a woman

Erica Rost

It will take time for Nikki to put on a dress or a skirt with heels!

Oh my GOD. Sleep-deprived reactions: 1. Poor Nikki. Again! Starting to think her crash course in empathy, which started with having A Single Feeling about Jill, is moving on to the next stage, learning how to have feelings about herself. And flexing for the guy because he's gay and therefore definitely likes muscles? Absolutely adorable. Nikki providing a public service. So thoughtful! 🤣 And then choosing to do something that feels uncomfortable because she wants to make her mum happy? Genuinely sweet. A flash of the old Nicholas, before he grew up and became the guy who quietly learned to squash panic attacks on his own, without help, because someone like him just shouldn't have them. She's growing! I mean, this is the same Nikki who, weeks later, responds to her friend's tale about Jessica by immediately suggesting they should have sex, so she hasn't grown THAT much, THAT fast, but growth is growth. 2. And her mother! The daughter she gave up dreaming about years — decades! — ago, suddenly standing in front of her, in the flesh! Can't really blame her for getting a bit... thoughtful. But also, her child returned to her. Posing for her, just to make her happy. The sweet, thoughtful child she had to watch shut down more and more as he grew older and came under the influence of everyone else's expectations. She's going to fight for her kid. Maybe not in the way Nikki might prefer, but still... 3. "I had boobs, but my voice was still as deep and commanding as ever." Haha, oh God, been there. Only temporarily, but still. She's right to be cautious. People get weird about that. 4. The locations, the framing, the character poses, all stunning. Every time. Still incredible. The look on Nikki's mum's face at the end? Fantastic. Love this story.

Pelicanboss

Mom is a GENIUS! YES! That's the Nikki I've hoping to see. She's gonna turn out so gorgeous. E, you nailed it!

Alyson Greaves

Oh, and scrolling back through, Nikki's facial expressions through the episode? SO well done. She's absolutely boiling with anxiety but still finds a way to work through it, for her mother. Upgrading my opinion of Nikki to "aww, bless".

Emory Ahlberg

Oh, yes... Or, at least, a plan is formulating. For the first time, Mom is seeing past "Nick" and to the daughter (maybe even "beauty queen" ???) she never had. That doesn't mean she doesn't love her child. She absolutely does! But Nick has been put through a lot to become the man people expected him to be. Mom is sad for what he lost along the way and may be thinking that this is HER chance to reclaim some of that!

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Joseph! Me too. This has been a very fun sequence. It's full of way more surprises than one typically finds on a trip to the mall, hehe.

Emory Ahlberg

That certainly seem to be the case, Andre. Of course, I think Mom will fight this instinct initially. It's "wrong," she will tell herself! But, in the end, Nikki has asked her to help her be the best girl she can be until this is all over....

Emory Ahlberg

That is a beautiful sentiment, Bell. Now, Nikki might have a very difficult time recognizing that as "love" -- and I think even Mom may resist it, initially... But the truth is that Nikki has asked Mom to help her be a girl for the present. Even if that only gives her a taste of womanhood, maybe it will be enough to change the course of her child's life for the better.

Emory Ahlberg

True! But we did see her wearing a skirt when she first met Sofia! I wonder how that came about? 😉

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Pelican! She is mesmerizing, isn't she? I keep returning to that last page... 😉

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, thank you, Aly! My sleep-deprived (2 am here) replies: 1. Just when you think she's a selfish prick, Nikki proves herself to be... on the cusp of empathy! I love how she's kind of homophobic, but at the same time isn't too freaked out to invite attention to her muscles. "I flexed for a gay dude. No homo." But, YES, the moment she actually poses for her mom is absolutely and genuinely a moment of zero ego. Nikki sees her mom is having fun and is caught up in the moment. Then, instead of screaming "Fuck you, I'm not posing like some chick!" she decides her mom's smile is worth more than her comfort, and just does it for her. I seriously doubt she expected the awe-like reaction from Mom, but still... 😉 2. I am unabashedly in love with Nikki's mom. I want to watch her rediscover herself as much as Nikki learns who she really is, as well! 3. Nikki is soooo right to be cautious. But we know she still hasn't mastered this by the time she talks with Sofia and tells this story. I imagine that learning to "talk like a girl" will be a major steppingstone and / or a huge blow to her ego. There's a lot of personality in one's voice. 4. Thank you so much!!! 💖

Emory Ahlberg

I really wanted to convey Nikki's absolute and total discomfort... mixed with trust in her mom. I mean, of course she puts up a bit of a fight, but she doesn't throw a tantrum or anything. I think they have a very special connection that was disrupted by whatever subtle terrors Nikki's dad inflicted on her when it was decided she would be a football star. Now, that doesn't mean Nikki will be all-aboard for being a girl. Ostensibly, she's still doing it to "save" her father from the same fate. At least for now. I do wonder how long that will last, however. Will Nikki eventually realize she was a pawn in someone else's game?

Robertlouis

Another superb episode, Emory. Yet again, there’s so much more going on psychologically beneath the surface. Nikki is being pushed and pulled inexorably towards womanhood, seemingly by all the forces around her. What makes it even more difficult for her is that her horrific experiences with Xu and his minions make it almost impossible to trust anyone. She’s so alone, and her understandable mistrust makes her brusque and dismissive even of her one natural ally, Sophie. It’s a horrible situation, and you’re handling it very sensitively.

Rex

Great job Emory! How do you do it with every story? 🤩

Alyson Greaves

Yeah, Nikki's mum is the BEST. Nikki's dad seems... less good. And while it doesn't seem like Nikki's mum necessarily had a bad life with her husband — she has enough authority at home to send him packing when she discovers what he did, and what he let happen to their son — I get the feeling she hasn't 'blossomed' the way she might have. Until now! *whispers directly to Nikki* "Hey, kid, just think of your voice as a big muscle. Learning to flex it would be SUPER manly, bro." Also, God, 'when it was decided she would be a football star', poor Nikki! > Will Nikki eventually realize she was a pawn in someone else's game? Incoming NIKKI SMASH arc

ckarya

Great job again Emory! I like the development of the Nick/Nikki plot, the only thing that scares me, as with Jack/Jill (a known lady-killer), is that "all of a sudden" his sexual preference changes and he is suddenly attracted to boys. Just like thank god it has already been made clear that homosexuality is not a disease and that no amount of courses, brainwashing or "lobotomies" can change a person's sexual preference, hormones and surgical changes shouldn't do it either. I understand and hope that he goes through uncomfortable situations and even that by force or by accident or simply to try, to be living life from the other side, he can try to relate to a guy, but I would not understand, being this a "realistic" comic he suffers a 180º turn and falls in love with a man. That's one of the things I hate the most about cd/tg stories/novels/comics, the cliché that suddenly because you put on a skirt or take some pills all of a sudden you only want men, men, men.... And that's why I like your stories so much, because you try to make them as realistic as possible. I hope that along his "adventure" he will change his way of thinking about women and this will make him a better and more mature person. And even if he has in the end the option to change his body again, he will stay happily living his life as a woman - that's what I hope 😉 - PS: With Sophia (I can't remember her male name), I don't have that "fear" because he has shown throughout his story that he had/has homosexual or at least bisexual feelings, so it is coherent and understandable. PS2: They are only my opinions that as they say in my country for tastes, colors. I like my "favorite heroes or characters" to have the same tastes as me and that's why I hope she becomes well feminine but still likes women! hehehehe. PS3: sorry for the wording of the post, I used a translator.

First, I have to confess that I love Lauren. What a great character to spice up the story! Second, wow! Details like the bra under the shirt, both visually and psychologically, add so much depth to the story, truly amazing. And finally, I love how we didn't just start to see him in frilly pink clothes; it makes all so much more realistic, turning the story, at least for me, much more engaging. I love to watch him fighting against it! Another fantastic chapter, Emory! Congrats!

So much mental anguish, throughly enjoying this one

Bowie897

Nikki seems to change from a nervous self-conscious teenage girl in frame 19 to a confident beautiful woman in frame 21!

Emory Ahlberg

Absolutely right. I don't see Nikki's dad as physically abusive or cruel, and I do think he loves his child. And yet, he let that son of a bitch kidnap his son to save his own hide. What kind of person does that? A coward. Nikki's father obviously cares more about his own happiness and freedom than his son's. That's pretty awful. As a former beauty queen, I think Mom had a very promising early life, but things went downhill once she got married. I feel she was let down by her husband, and she has not been able to live up to her own true potential. Hopefully, she will be able to come into her own again and realize her own dreams -- potentially, perhaps, of having a daughter (even if only for a little while, which is probably how she'll justify it to herself).

Emory Ahlberg

More thoughts, LOL: Poor Nikki. She’s been through so much. We know she's a bit arrogant, a bit homophobic / transphobic, and even a bit misogynistic. But, there is also a softer side which has been buried under layers of masculine aggression. Obviously, she's desperate to be loved and accepted by her father, and as a kid she found that love and acceptance came when she allowed herself to be used as a tool for her father's ambitions. My hope for her is she'll eventually realize she can be her own person and take back her own power. The question, of course, is whether her mom will fall into the same pattern as dad, or if she'll actually NOT force Nikki to become a "beauty queen" (literally or not) and simply let her find her own path...

Alyson Greaves

She's borrowing a daughter from her son 😋

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks so much Robert! For me, the psychology of the change is just as interesting as the physical change itself. Having finally "settled in" back home -- and with Zach having backed off for now -- Nikki maybe thought she could just let the whole crazy situation burn out on its own. But, of course, it won't. Mom knows Nikki will almost certainly need to be re-enter college as a girl, and it will take a LOT of practice and training to pass. For Nikki, this is (as she has mentioned) a nightmare that just won't go away. And I think we sometimes forget how traumatized she must be by it all, as well as the anger and frustration she must feel towards both herself and everyone else. And that anger -- and the humiliation of having been "reduced" to being a girl -- is stewing inside of her all the time and contributing to her almost complete lack of empathy even toward Sofia. In fact, I'd say Sofia is almost incomprehensible to Nikki. After all, Sofia could've escaped Ms. Ferris' clutches at any time before she was completely feminized, but she didn't.

Emory Ahlberg

Aw, thank you, Rex! ❤️ The answer is "lots of coffee" lol

Alyson Greaves

I kind of love her defensive misogyny, like the way she thinks about Lauren, because it piles up with her queerphobia and her layers of masculine armour, and it's hard not to feel that it's all going to start to fall away as she realises — probably EXTREMELY slowly; thoughts, like light, move more slowly through very dense objects, like Nikki's head — that her masculine armour was just that. There can be value in masculinity (I am forced grudgingly to admit!) but not if it's binding... I do think it's going to start being easier for her to recognise her masculinity as basically a clone of her dad's, and that if she loses respect for him — from a combination of his cowardice and her mum's justified shittalking of him lol — it's going to help her see the bits of her that were always real, and the bits that were always an act. And now a comment from my lizard brain: I do hope her mum buys her nice dresses.

Emory Ahlberg

Aww! And I do think Nikki will get to a place where maybe she's even okay with that...

Emory Ahlberg

As usual, your comments are giving me all kinds of thoughts / fuel, Aly! 💖 LOL. It's true, Nikki is about as dense as neutronium. But I'm also glad you feel a glimmer of hope. Nikki's journey is a long one, but in the end I hope she'll realize a full and true identity -- one which will allow her to be herself, to act as she pleases, and to realize her own true passions, beliefs, purpose, and attractions. Of course, she'll always have a more masculine side (I am also of begrudging acceptance, lol), but right now there is literally zero balance, and her entire identity is dominated by this idea that she needs to be useful, domineering, aggressive, and authoritarian to be of value. And without any balance and without any social expectations to shape her behavior (she's a football star!) there's no path for her to take to realize that there's a way to express those same qualities in a way that is so much more balanced and actually helpful to society and to her family and friends. I don't think she'll ever be a "girly" girl, but I hope she'll eventually feel comfortable enough in herself to feel like she can get dolled up in a dress and makeup whenever the desire strikes! Lizard brain reply: Oh, you can count on it!

Emory Ahlberg

The power of a mother's love! LOL. Really, she's just envisioning what a dolled-up, confident version of her "daughter" might look like!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Arty! Mental anguish sucks in real life but is fun to write / read. 😉

Alyson Greaves

This is going to be *such* a fun character trajectory to watch! And I'm just commenting on what's already there in the story 😁 On 'zero balance', thinking back to what Holly said about there being a woman instead every man (which also inspired my own stuff lol) and rooting for Nikki to find hers. Lizard brain happy.

Emory Ahlberg

I also love Lauren! And she will be back! I actually had to play around with my shaders to get the bra to show underneath the shirt, but I soooo wanted us to see it, so I took the time to get it to work. I think the effect adds realism and is also a constant reminder both to us and to Nikki that he is, indeed, wearing a bra. Nikki's fight against his changes will certainly continue for a while, but I also think what he will fight against is the control people have over him. Nikki pretends to be dominating and in control, but in reality, he has been a victim his whole life... (Gosh, I am never sure which pronouns to use for Nikki! Hehe)

Emory Ahlberg

First of all, please don't be sorry about the wording. It was perfectly understandable, and I love hearing from you! I totally understand! I don't believe hormones can change a person's sexual orientation, either. However, I do think it can open the door to other sexual exploration. There are lots of straight guys (especially, but girls, too), who only identify as straight because society pressures them to do so. How would they act if bisexuality and homosexuality were not stigmatized in the way they are? So, in the case of Sofia and Jack, I believe they were "straight" up until being changed, and now they are exploring their sexuality. But that doesn't mean their orientation has changed, I just think they are more open to exploring what they truly want. In Nikki's case, I actually don't know what will happen. As I've mentioned before, it doesn't seem like she has ever had a truly romantic relationship. She always just used girls for sex. So, I'm really not sure where her sexual exploration will lead. That's part of the fun! 😀

Bobbie

OMG the quality of the images are outstanding. Congratulations. Great story too. ❤

stacy C

Oooh her hair in the end panel looks fab......so lush :-) x

Emory Ahlberg

Dream Nikki has been using conditioner! lol Thanks, Stacy!

Emory Ahlberg

Oh, Bobbie, thank you so, so much. 😘 I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying writing and illustrating Half Sisters, so that's really gratifying to hear!

Chloé1975

Hi Ckarya, I totally agree with you. Where are you from?

Chloé1975

once again, marvelous artwork especially with nikki’s thoughts and feelings we can see on his/her face. I was so impatient to see the next chapter and I wasn’t disappointed. You are the best to show the feelings of the new girls. At the beginning Nikki wasn’t one of my favorite but with the time she arrives in my top 3 of the new girls. The outfit choices is really good, just a taste of feminity but not too much… the picture with the bra visible under the t-shirt is a really good idea.

France Day

"Nikki or the mystique of genres", a very powerful sequence highlighting the silent dialogue of this indomitable maternal closeness. Extraordinary EA.

OMG OMG OMG I am sooo late here... I am really sorry. ❣️ I have read all the comments... and I totally love how deep this story is and how deep conversation is done in those comments. I really want to write something smart here but duh, my brain is low powered lately... like I think I have lot in common with Amber from Squidz comic called "Control" :) I've just discovered recently we both share a lot... (sorry if promoting work of other artists isn't suppose to happen here). Back to Nikki story... please allow me to make a joke. Half Sisters ep.512 (5 years from now) [Nikki] Mom!!! I'll not go out in this dress I am a man did you forget??? 🤣 And now I'll try to be smart and serious for a moment (focus Maggie FOCUS). I like how this story is slowly developing... the slower the better... why? slower story -> more pics of beautiful Nikki and hey please do not forget about Sophie here as well. In my humble subjective opinion I'll allow myself to say that I strongly wish that Nikki not only will not decide at the end of this story to take back her manhood but she will embrace in absolute 100.00% her power as outstanding beautiful, powerful girl. (maybe even she wins some beauty contest[s] not only for her Mom but for herself as well? OMG that would be TOTALLY AWESOME right??? And I am back on bimbo brain again. 😂

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks so much, Chloé! 😀 Half Sister has been so rewarding and fun to create for everyone. And I beyond LOVE how into the characters and story people seem to be. I don’t think Nikki was many people’s favorites early on (at least not her personality, although she has always been quite pretty!). Now, though, I think people are starting to sympathize with our former football star.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you very much, Maggie. I really appreciate your comment! 😀 LOL, just imagining episode 512 is making my brain hurt. But who knows...? I never expected Jack & Jill to get this far. I definitely won't be forgetting about our Sofia. We're switching back to her story soon. The story will develop at a measured pace. I don't want to say "slowly" because, to me, that means "dull" -- and it certainly won't be that! 😉 We will need to see what Nikki chooses in the end. Will she get to the point where she embraces womanhood? Will her time in skirts and bras allow her to develop a new, healthier masculinity? Will she decide she is somewhere else on the gender spectrum? Either way, it will be a hell of a journey. 😀

Gavin

love it!

2026-10-04 02:00 So far, Nikki's story is reading like a trans man's story, & to be quite honest, I think that would fit well with them. Of course, I hope they come out a better man if they decide to go that route.
