Nikki's long night finally comes to an end...

I loved writing and creating the art for this episode. It was a big one -- in all the ways! Our ex-star quarterback has certainly come a long way since her encounter with Holly and Jill back on Xu's island. 💖

Nikki does love her father although right now it's hard to see why. They obviously had a good relationship for at least SOME of her high school / college years. Her father needs to either come to terms with what he did and start accepting Nikki's "protection" (no matter how it makes him feel) or get out of her way. Unfortunately, I have a bad feeling things may get a bit worse before (if) they get better. Nikki is pretty damn stubborn, too!

OMG !!!!!!!! Her dad is broken beyond repair... and... truly a big deepshit... Why I hoped that Nikki would answer to that scumbag-father that she really indeed fucked Zach thoroughly and with big pleasure just to bring a real brainfuck to him... while knowing good that he will not remember anything from this conversation... hahaha. This conversation however explains the truth deep core of Nikki personality which kinda didn't change at all since ever... another small brick to build a new fundament of strong & confident & caring beautiful young woman who prefers to protect, not hurt her friends (sick dad not included though LOL) P.S. this couple is truly A D O R A B L E ❣️❣️❣️What a girl wouldn't like a good bike ride holding to a strong dude... Good God, that first page is shot and lit beautifully. And I love these idiots struggling with their feelings around each other: Nikki’s incipient bisexual awakening (hard mode) and Zach’s confusion over just who the hell Nick is any more. They’ve both changed so much, inside and out, and rebuilding their own best-friends relationship in a new and incredibly fraught environment; fraught not just by the dangers posed by their respective fathers — and the ever-present concern that even if they manage to get one over on their dads, there’s still the secrecy around Second Dawn to maintain, something Sandy doesn’t have to worry about — but by the expectations that surround and suffocate cross-gender friendships. If they do fall into a closer relationship it’s going to be complex as HELL for both of them! Aww. Nikki standing up for her buddy Scott, because that’s definitely his real name and not an identity she would feel kinda strange returning to at this point. And Nikki’s sense of humour! The idiot is still adorable. Also, “He’s just a little guy, you know? Not tough like you and me.” Nikki, babe, you and Zach play football. Sandy broke into houses. HOW is the render quality on this random drunk hairy guy yelling at Nikki so GOOD? And then… her dad. What a mess. Drunk and wavering back and forth between guilt and belligerence, berating Nikki for the woman she’s had to become to protect HIS useless ass. But I can’t help thinking that the shit he said about her mother’s influence is going to percolate in her mind; everything associated with her dad — football, aggression, locking all your shit up deep inside — has turned sour, but her earlier life, where her mum was the biggest influence…? God, and the details of his neglect. Nikki slipping into caretaker mode, out of — even if she won’t yet admit this to herself — fear. Makes me wonder how much of her time around him as a younger teen was spent caretaking his moods and his alcoholism. Fucker thought he was training his son to be strong, but he actually trained him to be fearfully subservient to a man with a temper. And the way he echoes what Davis said, that the only response to what’s been done to her is death: hers or someone else’s. Absolutely pathetic. Those last two shots. She needs a hug so bad. She needs her mum.

Hi Emory, I’ve been seriously ill for a long time which is why I haven’t been active on the comments, so I’ve done a huge catch up on all your stories and captions. Wow! And wow times twenty! But I may as well start here. What a stunning chapter, with great art throughout, the contrast between the almost romance and then the crackling tension between Nikki and her father - overtones of Tennesse Williams. In vino, or in this case, Jack Daniels, veritas. What a pathetic, self-pitying specimen the elder Palmer is, railing at his child rather than admit any of his own responsibility. The best outcome for Nikki and Zach would be for their vile fathers to have a fight literally to the death in which neither survive. Meanwhile, another glimmer of recognition for Nikki about some kind of accommodation with Zach that goes beyond the mere convenience of a temporary alliance against their monstrous fathers - Nikki’s recognition in 22 that she has wronged a good man. Great stuff, Emory. I know that the next chapter is going to leave us hanging on an absolute devil of a cliffhanger while we pick up on Sandy’s side of this great tale, but I so much hope that it won’t. xxx

Oh, gosh, Nikki's dad is a real piece of work, isn't he? 😒 I totally agree with you, we can definitely see how Nikki's personality is evolving. We're building that "brick by brick" foundation of a strong, empowered...person 😉... if she stays on track. And, yeah, I do love me some romantic tension! Was Nikki really thinking about smooching her fake boyfriend? That's something Nicholas wouldn't have done in a million years. As for Nikki's dad... You said it! Whiskey might be the only reliable friend he's got at this point. Nikki needs to focus on her spiritual and emotional growth, and meeting new challenges head-on!

It's a total rollercoaster of feelings, identity, and genuine personal growth. Imagine that! Growth... from Nikki! 🤯 Nikki's genuine concern for Scott (ahem, definitely Scott 😅) gives us a small peek into the softer side. Maybe she's finally getting tired of pushing everyone away? The scene between Nikki and Zach, so close to more bonding... and then diving right into the tension with her father...It's like a tug-of-war between love and family loyalty that Nikki‘s caught in the middle of. thank god she finally called her mom, jesus! the art work on these past few chapters has been heavenly! the shading the lighting everything! great job emory!!!! creepy cat caller is too real. in the past 5 days i’ve been cat called both aggressively and weirdly about 20 times. one called me a “fucking bitch” after i didn’t acknowledge him 😔 nikki’s gotta learn that men are insane sometimes and she might need another person there to help terrible dad moment, we find out more that he’s shitty but also a drunk. gosh emory did you study my family before writing this story 😭😭 so glad that it ends with the phone call to her mom. you can really see that her emotions are reaching a breaking point being around her dad 😞 can’t wait for the next chapter! superb work!!!

Nikki's father is still obnoxious... but the aftertaste the chapter left me with is a word you commented on in one of your replies.... Redemption. I think the hurtful comments he makes to his son, have more of guilt and regret with himself than towards Nicholas. What I don't know is whether that guilt and regret is for ruining his "job" of convincing a mama's boy into a big man or ruining his son's life. And I think I'm leaning towards the former, so at this point, I don't think he deserves that redemption.

On the other hand, I have a small question that I would like you to answer. We have Nicholas/Nikki, who, until his adolescence had a personality more similar to his mother's, softer, sweeter and empathetic, which is why he suffered from bullying. Who was changed by his father, to become someone strong and selfish. And because of his father's enemy (Mr. Hutchinson) he is being forced to feminization, through hormones and blackmail so that his son (Zach) is not labeled as homosexual. And on the other side we have Zach, another boy with a soft, sweet and empathic personality who even suffered more bullying, whom also his father tries to turn him, in his case, into a great male by means of hormones to reverse mainly his sexual orientation. My question: Why reading the comments to the chapters is Nicholas/Nikki encouraged to embrace his feminization, something he does not want (I refer to his words), arguing that this was his "true personality" and instead I do not see the same desire for Zach, but on the contrary, when he is being forced into masculinization (something he does not want either according to his words) and goes against his "true personality"? I would love to read your answers😉

Emory, I didn't realize that you knew my dad! The combination of alcohol, narcissism, refusal to accept responsibility! To close to home! I feel closer to Nikki than to any fictional individual except maybe ellen hayes's Tuck! I was sp glad to see her spell out the reality of her situation, like she has finally seen through the fog Zach had never been the villain, is almost as much a victim as she is. Soon, she should realize that other than her mom, everyone who has actually wanted to help her or show her any sympathy has been a member of the LGBT community

Remember all that coffee I've been drinking? 🤣 Ugh, I am so sorry to hear about the cat calling!!! It's the worst! Nikki's mom had it happen to her, too (and little Nick did his best to "defend" her) and now poor Nikki's experiencing that as well in this new life of hers. Haha, oh no 🙈 I'm sorry your Nikki similarities extend to her dad, too! He's proving to be even shittier than we first assumed. Maybe he can get better? But to do so he'd need to accept this is all his fault! Yeah, ending the chapter with that emotional phone call to her mom was to highlight how she's barely holding together. She's had a really rough go lately -- and Scott / Sandy isn't around to complain to!

Thank you so, so much, Sara! Sandy was very open to her new feelings towards Josh. If it’d been a stranger, it’s hard to say how long her bisexual awakening would’ve taken. Plus, Josh was so sweet to her. Poor Nikki is in an even more difficult position. Sometimes she hardly knows which way is up or down, let alone who she should kiss! 😂 Meanwhile, Zach is in also in a panic because he’s definitely NOT attracted to girls. Right!? The emotions are so heightened right now. But I don’t see them settling down anytime soon! ❤️
