Kris hunts for a villain. Is she the predator or the prey?

We're nearing 500 pages on Homecoming now! In this episode, Chris takes a back seat as Kris steps into the limelight. Think she'll be able to ensnare a target worthy of Bella's attention?

I had fun writing for Kris this time. We've only seen her in the mirror before and now she's out in the world. Or is it merely "Chris" with a different dialogue color, fooling himself? 🤔

I can't wait to read your thoughts!

Chris/Kris back and forth dynamic is very interesting in this chapter. Chris within Kris doesn't want to do this, but at the same time, Kris trying to her/himself that they are doing the right thing.

Tiki D

Kris really knows how to be Ice .

Tiki D

Kris know how to be sexy in her dress.

I have a bad feeling about this about Chris/Kris and Ben paths will intertwine due Bella playing them as pawns on a chess game. She has spies almost on every angle. Chris/Kris might unintentionally get Ben capture at some point in the story.

Ella Cherry

Getting more and more exciting by the chapter!

Omagathief

I can hardly wait to see if Kriss goes through with it or if Chris’s conscience force them to pull the plug and try and find another way 😄

Been having A Bit Of A Morning so I’ll limit my comment to: wow!

Maggie Heels

Jesussssssss what a cliffhanger... OMG... continuation on new year's eve??? Emory you didn't say you like to be our mistress and we are your slaves... :} two weeks of sweet torture thank you, mistress ❣️❣️❣️

When breath joins the flesh to rebuild the living, we can experience the nutrients of time and space. A dazzling and balanced chapter despite the silent Kristic storm.

Gemma

Beautiful images as usual Emory. In this episode I am particularly impressed by your writing and the sing song poetic rhythm within the interchanges dialogue taking place between the different parts in Kris/ Chris that you have written Emory in this episode.

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks Tiki! Yeah, she’s a total survivor. Whatever it takes.

Emory Ahlberg

I love her dress. It’s super unique and sexy, yeah!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ella! This season of Homecoming has been so fun to write. I guess you can tell! But, yeah, the tension is ratcheting up…

Emory Ahlberg

Thank youuu! 🫂 God, I hope your day got better as it went along. I crashed kinda hard after this one. December is weird.

Emory Ahlberg

Aaaa, thank you, Maggie! What do you think / hope will happen next? Obviously you don’t know too much about this man (not even a name) but do you think Kris should just “get it over with” and turn this guy over to Bella if possible? And, yes, let your story torture commence! 😂

Maggie Heels

Just throw her a tiny bone... any glimpse of behavior that will be enough to do what Kris needs to do... ❣️❣️❣️

Been having a few heavy Long Covid days hence my late arrival. Speaking of heavy, I have real foreboding about the direction in which this is heading, for Kris, Kayla, and Ben. Somehow I see Kris’s plan going wrong and Ben ending up in Bella’s clutches. Plus Bella has never struck me as the type to keep her word either, so Kris/Cris and Kayla will remain in jeopardy too.

Emory Ahlberg

Yeah, the sun setting at like 4pm is NOT okay. Aargh. 😭

Robertlouis

And just who the hell is Bella? Is she female? Male? A cypher? An amalgamation of several other characters? An entire criminal cabal? And just how deep did Kayla and Ben’s relationship develop during Chris’s disappearance? At least we have one answer - Chris was kidnapped, and he has to find someone to replace him, or Bella will ensure that all hell is let loose upon everyone in his life, unless…unless…he’s imagined the whole damn thing and the Cunt swings back into play.

Emory Ahlberg

Chris does want to do anything necessary to make sure Kayla isn't harmed. But he also wants Kris to "take over" during this part. That's what she's for... Right? 😉

Emory Ahlberg

Bella definitely knows what's going on. But going after a police officer would still be dangerous for her. Does she risk it?

Emory Ahlberg

It's an interesting question! Chris certainly doesn't want to subject anybody else to the experience he went through, but he's afraid of the consequences if he doesn't. He doesn't think Bella is all-powerful, but doesn't want to call her bluff and potentially bring harm to Kaya and to himself. After all, when Cindy didn't comply, she was taken back and her points were reset to zero.

Emory Ahlberg

Elrod, I'm sorry I accidentally deleted your comment! You'd written: FYI - I'm trying to not put any spoilers in here. One thing that bugs me is episodes ago in the mirror scene, Kris was telling Chris that "I'm a part of you, whether you admit it or not." (paraphrased). The 'internal dialog' in this chapter was a different tone - "I'm not real; you made me up ....." which seems too radically different of 'Kris' attitude previously. Which doesn't bode well for Chris/Kris integration of their two sides. Kayla's own internal duality and conflict is building - and she doesn't yet recognize it. She wanted to be intimate, but then couldn't deal with it. Then said she couldn't lose Chris again. I suspect that when she finds out that her 'betrayal' of what Chris told her put lives in jeopardy, her reaction is going to further add to her internal angst. I could see a nervous breakdown in her future. Would Ben then blame Chris? Would Ben then try to get her out of her angsty-mental state? And how is Chris going to react if/when he discovers that the sexy red outfit was a gift to Kayla from Ben? Another nail in the coffin of feeling betrayed by Kayla? (I suspect that if I turn on my Angst-o-meter, this story is eventually going to break it. FYI - the Angst-o-meter is an inside joke from the way I've treated my own characters in Whateley stories I've written!)

Emory Ahlberg

My reply: Thanks, Elrod! Hm, I don't think the dialogue is too different. In the mirror scene, Kris agrees she's a hallucination brought on by "trauma, sleep deprivation, and stress." When she says that doesn't mean she isn't real, she means the strength that he has inside of him. Kris is an avatar, of sorts. 😉 In this episode, she says Chris is experiencing a psychotic break... If that's the case, all bets may be off! Brilliant analysis on Kayla and what she's going through. And if only she knew what Chris was truly experiencing, as well...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Gemma! Writing them was a pleasure, even if it's a little angsty. Kris / Chris have a lot on their minds!!!

Emory Ahlberg

I hope you feel better quickly, Robert! Ben may well end up in Bella's bordello... but I'd say that Bella has at least shown that she is willing to release SOME of her captives back out into the world, as promised...

Emory Ahlberg

Yes! After all, we've only "seen" Bella once - briefly - in Season 1... and she was wearing a mask and seemed disfigured. We don't know who Bella is or how she plays into this saga... But that is a question which will be answered before this is all over!

The subtle softening of Kris's facial features between pages #9 and #10 that I perceived is not solely a product of my imagination, I hope. The gorgeous woman on page #19 is not the same one who first walked into the club...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, fin! I just saw this comment for some reason but I so appreciate you noticing the details. 😊

Back when I still had dreams, I wanted to become a comic book artist. I was fortunate enough to have met and spoken with greats like George Perez, John Buscema, Marshall Rogers and Walt Simonson before I turned 16. They were/are INCREDIBLY kind and patient men. To put up with a crazed fan-boy like I was back then, they had to be saints! --Btw, George Perez's first wife, Yvie, was one of the most beautiful women I have ever been blessed to gaze upon. Her beauty was exceeded only by her kindness to a 13 year old boy who worshiped her husband! -- I asked all of them what I needed to do to in order to make my dream come true. Their advice, all boiled down, I now present: Draw for at least 2-3 hours every day. Discipline yourself to do this or you'll not be able to attain true mastery, nor ever be able to handle the 8-10 hours per day required to pump out the 20+ pages every month like a pro does. Learn how to draw EVERYTHING! Using reference images at first, but eventually becoming able to draw nearly ANYTHING straight from your memory. Only when you can do that proficiently, should you start to consider the possibility of a career in the comics biz. They said that being able to draw amazing splash pages or covers might help get your foot in the door at one of the big publishers and be granted an interview to present your portfolio. There are a lot of folks who can draw pretty pictures out in the world, though. What separates the most talented doodlers from the pros, is their STORYTELLNG skill. All four of them are/were noted for their excellence in that aspect of their overall game, and they all told me that it was the hardest thing for them to learn how to do early on in their careers. Emory, your storytelling excellence is what sets you apart from the mere "doodlers". I enjoy and appreciate the details replete in your work!
