Kris finds herself playing a dangerous game of seduction...

Yay! Homecoming is back with a double episode plus a bonus pinup (which I really like - hope you do, too).

Lots happening in these 37 pages, so I don't want to say too much other than I'm fairly happy for the art in this episode. And I can't wait to read your thoughts. 😊

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the pinup!

Funny, what Kris says in the last two panels is exactly what I was going to say.

Emory Ahlberg

One of those moments I CLEARLY heard the character inside my head, down to the intonation and everything. 😂

sapiens1559

I love the construction of Kriss' character, full of nuances. Big fan of your work Emory, hugs from Brazil

Jade Diaz

Kris has a shocking amount of empathy for her chosen target. Maybe she's just appeasing Chris.

Emory Ahlberg

Good point, Jade. To be fair, she didn’t look very hard. Victor is literally the first guy who propositioned her. Chris has always wanted to find the “right” target - Kris just wants this to be over and done with. How ‘different’ they really are is up for debate. 😉💖

Emory Ahlberg

That really means a lot to me, sapiens. Thank you! ♥️ I’m trying to make the duality of Kris / Chris compelling. I find it really fascinating. I’m glad you do, too!

Robertlouis

You two make a great double act. Err, that’s in comedy, for the avoidance of any misunderstanding….

Robertlouis

That’s exactly what I was looking for, Emory. It’s the essential duality of the Chris/Kris personas, and despite Chris’s brief reappearance in the loo, Kris seems to be assuming dominance. But then again…

Robertlouis

A great double treat, thank you Emory. Great use of light and shade both to heighten the drama and to emphasise Kris’s glorious cheekbones! With the turn of events at the end, it’s likely that Kris will view Victor with contempt rather than pity, whereas if Chris re-emerges, it’s probably going to be the other way round. And in the meantime we’ve got Ben’s colleague and someone calling on Al. So many threads. Your ability to keep all these plot lines going simultaneously, to say nothing of Jack and Jill and Half Sisters, is way beyond belief. I’d love to see your plot walls and story boards.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Robert! I was really happy with how the art came out this time. Yeah, the plots are think up in here, hehe. That "someone" is the so-called 'Cunt' - aka Bella's co-conspirator, aka Ben's friend at the Chicago police department. I really should make a dramatis personae for Homecoming... 🤔

Gemma

Well, well, well Emory. What can I say except I didn’t see that ending coming.

Emory Ahlberg

😂 Neither did Kris! Hope you liked it, Gemma.

Tiki D

I have a bad feeling that Kayla is going to find out that Chris/Kris has sleeping around with other guys from one of Ben's friends eventually.

Tiki D

Kris really trying to keep the Chris part of her under control within the mirror.

Tiki D

I really find the duallity of Chris/Kris and they are about to do Victor is interesting. Does Chris want to do it with Victor or Kris does?

sketchyqueen

pretty incredible two chapters Em! love the detail on Kris in the bar, seeing things like skin fold that you clearly took time to implement make the image feel more real and less like some airbrushed idealistic concept! love the art and story! really interested to see how kris’ story pans out

Tiki D

Is Stacy using hypnotic suggestion on Al to get information about Kris? Stacy would probably find away to cover Bella's tracks from Ben.

Robertlouis

I thought it was, but I wasn’t sure - she’s another character in this tale with such a variety of disguises. Thanks for the clarification.

Gemma

Always enjoyable Emory. It challenges the reader to speculate’ where to from here’ will the story go?

Zoe Storm

Emory don't think I didn't see that DS9 reference.

Emory Ahlberg

Yep! Chris sort of 'surrendered' control to Kris earlier when he made love with Kayla, and now has done it again to see this through. Of course, even Kris wouldn't describe herself as an alternate personality - more like an altered persona. As Chris mentioned to Kayla previously, he remembers they do as Kris, but it's seen through a different, more resilient lens...

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Nina! I'm so happy you're all caught up! And I really appreciate the compliment on the detail work. I'm a little crazy (no surprise there) but It's super important to me that the characters feel... I dunno... tangible. And yeah, with Chris / Kris, we're already into some complex emotional territory... and I still have a FEW more twists.... Hehe

Elrod W

A very intriguing pair of chapters - well worth the wait. The duality of Chris/Kris shows a whole new dimension - Kris is cynical, and it appears well past being bitter. Just cynical, and 'survive at all costs' attitude. Chris is still stuck in the 'oh pity me' phase; Kris' comments - homecomings are not all they're cracked up to be, are those of someone who is going to make the best of her situation, even if she doesn't like it. Kris/Chris still shows love for Kayla, in what HAS to be done. The difference is clearly in decisiveness - Kris is able to make herself do things that Chris knows are necessary, but his trauma prevents him from doing. Is this is a step toward Kris becoming the dominant personality? A habit formed from time in captivity? And if Kris becomes dominant, when / how does Kayla find out? Ben's "partner" - more mystery. Paid to tail and watch. Why? At this point, very unlikely to be PD, but why is Ben doing this? To "get the goods" to show Kayla that Chris should never be with her - so Ben can take his place? Or is there something deeper - like Ben suspects the stories weren't adding up and something made him think he needed to investigate outside the PD? The first we saw of him was before the Cunt talked to Cindy, so what is the 'undisclosed info' Ben mentioned to Kayla?

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Elrod! I really enjoy the duality, as you can probably tell. As I said in another comment, I think of Kris as a "persona" more than an alternate personality. Chris still remembers everything that happens when he's "Kris," but it's like living life as somebody else for a little while. It helps him to be her. Although, it DOES seem like they're pulling apart more and more. It's harder for Chris / Kris to "switch" back as their personalities and experiences become more distinctive. 🤔 Something the Cunt said to Alan may give you a bit of a clue about the 'undisclosed info.' She said, "I know she [Kris] isn't staying here anymore." and, also, "She needs your help. Again."

Elrod W

As usual, this has my brain spinning at high rpm - and this part brings new potential plot twists to add to my already-complicated tree of possible plot branches you could take! (Note on PM for your amusement without possibly accidentally spoiling anything.) I love it! Keep up the good work!

stacy C

I love Kris's expression in the last pic as the penny drops LoL x

Emory Ahlberg

Excellent question, Tiki. Kris is more “into” this as it’s a total reversal of what she’s typically dealt with in the past. It’s intriguing!

Emory Ahlberg

It was fun to be able to get to see the “old” Chris again. 😊

Emory Ahlberg

That would devastate her, yeah. Even if Chris tried to make her understand that this was life or death…

Emory Ahlberg

🤣 Thanks, Stacy! I honestly had so much fun with that expression / pose.

Ella Cherry

A new chapter of homecoming always makes my day better! And then we had two at the same time! So… what to say? Only thank you, Emory! ❤️

Emory Ahlberg

Aw, thank you, Ella! This was a fun / challenging episode to pull together. I'm so happy you enjoyed it. 😊

Elrod W

By chance, is there any place on Kris' body - that you haven't shown in any post-release images release - where Kris could have an extra 'gift' - some really girly tattoo (rose, butterfly, etc)? That would have been a nice 'parting gift'. A 'tramp stamp' would be even more fun to work with (at least if I was the author - but then again, some of my readers think I'm cruel to my characters).

non anon

Chapter 21 hits close to home... literally. I'm a few blocks away from Jefferson Park 😶

Emory Ahlberg

Watch out, non! The cunt is on the prowl... 😉

Emory Ahlberg

Interesting idea, Elrod! I think we've seen every inch of skin Kris has at this point. 😉
