John is back with Jack Patterson and Grace Chatto of Clean Bandit, for part two of their conversation, this time, talking about how they wrote, recorded, and produced some of their more recent hits.

Clean Bandit are an English electronic group formed in 2008, known for blending classical music with electronics and pop. While they gained early attention with the track ‘Mozart’s House,’ their 2014 hit ‘Rather Be,’ featuring Jess Glynne, won a Grammy and earned the band global recognition. Now pop mainstays, they have released numerous chart-topping collaborations, including ‘Rockabye’ and ‘Symphony.’ With two studio albums to their name and new music on the horizon, their most recent work sees them teaming up with Anne-Marie and David Guetta.

In this, part two of our conversation, Jack and Grace take us through the early versions and of their track ‘Symphony’ (following its resurgence on TikTok), and discuss how their creative process has changed over the years, taking apart ‘Cry Baby’, and digging into the multiple remixes of the track.

Tracks discussed: Symphony, Cry Baby

Thanks for this! There are a lot of amazing podcasts you’ve done that don’t have videos like Finneas, chainsmokers, Fred again, Tom oddell, Charlie Puth etc. Will these be uploaded because you miss a lot without the video, sometimes you can’t understand what they are talking about without it. Also producers learn a lot by just seeing what their setup, tracks, plugins, organisation etc that they don’t mention and it helps a lot producers symbiotically learn by seeing everything and getting more in the shoes of the artist. I really hope these can get uploaded as it would really bridge the gap between successful artists and those trying to make it as you can go straight to the artist instead of all the other people trying to sell you everything! Big fan of this! Keep it up!

Thanks so much for the positive words! Our signature format now for the past few years has been the video podcast and we love doing things this way for all the reasons you mention. The videos of some of these have been up but for a limited period of time only as per their label's terms. Fred Again we did film but his label wouldn't allow us to release it, only the audio podcast. Our aim is always to bring you folks video episodes :)

Ah ok. Keep trying your best and doing great work! Damn labels should leave you alone haha

I’ve been looking forward to this since the first one in August! So good to watch this - there absolutely needs to be parts 3 + 4. Jack played bass guitar in our band at school and it makes me so proud to see his amazing achievements.
